Useful "article" indeed... :goodjob:

I wonder how many more MOTs my Fergie would pass if her DPF was removed

Odd that they say

" Will removing the Diesel Particulate Filter affect my vehicle's MOT?

No, removing the Diesel Particulate Filter will not affect the result of your vehicle's MOT."

Don't the test for particulates on cars which were originally fitted with DPFs ?

Just been to the MOT with my car. Part of the MOT here is the pollution test.

I doubt the car would pass the test without the DPF.

I am sure that Hy would not go to the expense of fitting an expensive performance robbing device and the software to control it if it wasn't absolutely necessary. This device adds to the cost of vehicle manufacture and would put them at a price disadvantage to other brands. So it MUST be a requirement to pass stringent anti pollution requirements in Europe, so it needs to be fitted. :fum:

I have just submitted this enquiry on their website enquiry form

I am interested in the removal of the DPF on my car.
A  quotation for the total cost would be appreciated.
Are you able to guarantee that the Hyundai 5 year warranty will not be prejudiced and that the car will definitely pass the MOT emissions test.
Also that your ECU remap will not reduce engine performance or fuel economy.

Where is your workshop located – I live in Solihull, West Midlands

Are you able to guarantee that ... the car will definitely pass the MOT emissions test.

That'd be one hell of a committment from them, given that other factors could enter into the equation :scared:

that's classed as part of the pollution gear in Australia, removal of any part of the pollution gear/emissions is illegal and deems your car un roadworthy.

I have received the following reply to my enquiry. Professional isn't it?..............not.
I would not spend my money on this basis.

Hello

I have checked into this query the removal of the DPF will not cause and issue with the MOT but will void any manufacturer’s warranty for the vehicle

Many thanks

Best ask VOSA, we have had Estate Cars fail if a rear wiper is a bit dodgy - simply because it was "an original fitment", that must be included in the Test.

Maybe worth a try if the DPF fails (particularly outside the warranty period)

Interesting thread, my 08 diesel bought in Canberra has a sticker on the engine cover which says "This vehicle is not fitted with a DPF, use a B4 rated oil"

Is this filter covered under the 5 year warrantee?  has anyone had one block yet?  I've heard a diesel needs to be run on the motorway at least every 2 weeks for at least 15 minutes to clear the soot.  I've only just got my 62 plate i30 and don't want to think about it going wrong already!

Use the forum search button and look for "DPF Filter". I and others have posted a lot of information about the Hyundai i30 DPF on the forum.

The DPF should be covered by the warranty - provided you follow the instructions in your owners manual. You need to run the car at above 2000 rpm for about 20 minutes at least every 2 weeks to keep the DPF clear.

If you do lots of slow speed, stop start driving the filter will eventually get loaded with soot and the ECU will set regeneration in motion by injecting more fuel part way down the firing stroke so it burns in the filter and raises its temperature. This will normally clear the filter and you will probably be unaware it has regenerated - unless you notice the sudden increase in fuel consumption over the 20 minute period  or - if your car has the auto stop start system - it shows in the instruments as deactivated when you come to a halt.  My car regenerates at varying intervals of between 100 to 300 miles depending on the type of driving I have been doing.

If you ever get a warning light display in the instruments to tell you the filter needs regenerating - go for a fast run for at least 20 minutes. If the light stays on after this take the car to a dealers immediately and they can force regenerate it. If you fail to do this the filter can be ruined and will not be covered by the warranty. A new filter is likely to cost well beyond the wrong side of £1500.

Having said all this I have done 12,000 miles in my 12 plate car and have not had any problems with the DPF. I cannot recall anyone on the forum having the warning light display so the auto regeneration system seems to do its stuff. My dealership have had to force regenerate i30's about half a dozen times over the past 3 years - in each case the cars were being used by a driving school and probably never got above 40 mph.  All the forced regenerations were successful and they have yet to have to replace a DPF.
