Number 5 - I'll add a table for the UK ones built in Korea but it's only going to have yours in it until more folk fill in the gaps. C being a comfort doesn't make a lot of sense to me at the moment, so I cant guess the others.
Number 9 - I just need to copy some data down from above, that will be fixed shortly.
Number 10 - 8 is correct, up until this year the years start in the august before. so from August 2007 to August 2008 (approximately) the number will be an 8.
-
Ok thats it updated, the "R" is a bit of a mistery, lets assume it means RHD for the moment
Might need to press CTRL-F5 (in IE) to see the update.
Still plenty of info missing/blanks to fill in, particularly on digits 8 & 9.
-

So does this mean if I was to sell I can now say 2008
Cheers for the up date.
Shambles - can you check your VIN as you bought your Premium model 6 months after me and see how it compares.
-
The VIN code for my October 09 i30 Comfort show a different TRIM code as below:
March 2010 code okay.
[deleted]
-
Number 9 = R - Not 0-9 as shown
This does indeed mean right-hand-drive, Left hand drive is a "P" in the same field (updated in 1.3)
So does this mean if I was to sell I can now say 2008
It could correctly be described as a MY08 (Model Year) but the MY designation can be pretty confusing (take the MY11 being available in the UK since April this year doh!)
-
The VIN code for my October 09 i30 Comfort show a different TRIM code as below:
Hmm. My MY10 (A) Style variant is also a C. I guess the messed up. I'll add both for the moment.
-
No.5 Model series.
My VIN has C but is UK premium model 2008. so must cover various models.
-
That field seems to get a new meaning each model year. I guess 2008 was the same as the MY2010 cars. I'll add that next time I do an update, thx.
-
I have just checked this against mine and I also have the C at digit 5 for an MY08 Premium.
-
thanks for the link to here earlier Brian. :goodjob:
-
My i30 is listed by the dealer as a MY09 but it has an A in the VIN which means a MY10 according to your decoder. Prod date is 01/09/09.

Vehicles built in September are often the next model year (so that is quite possible) :goodjob:

My 7th digit your post claims is always a 1, but mine has an A. Any ideas what that might mean? That it's an Elantra Touring not an i30?
Also, my 9th digit is a 5 and your chart labels this as a 'check digit'. I don't understand that, can you clarify?
Just for reference my Model Series (digit 5) is B and in Canada my Elantra Touring trim level is a GL. They sold three trim levels, this is the middle, the L, GL, and GLS. Edit: This was in the 2010 model. I see right now you can't buy an L trim level.
Any further details needed?

My 7th digit your post claims is always a 1, but mine has an A. Any ideas what that might mean? Lorian who started this thread Didn't come on for over 12 months although he did make a quick surprise visit the other day That it's an Elantra Touring not an i30?
Also, my 9th digit is a 5 and your chart labels this as a 'check digit'. I don't understand that, can you clarify? Wiki explains it better than I can..
"A check digit is a form of redundancy check used for error detection, the decimal equivalent of a binary checksum. It consists of a single digit computed from the other digits in the message.
With a check digit, one can detect simple errors in the input of a series of digits, such as a single mistyped digit or some permutations of two successive digits."

That's somewhat similar to the explanation my doctor gave me last time I visited I think
-
If anyone needs an information extracted from VIN code of your car, send me a message with VIN and I'll work it out or you can do it yourself by registering here http://www.elcats.ru/ (http://www.elcats.ru/) , but as far as I know this procedure is forbidden for non-Russian IPs (at least that was true a year or two ago).

hi meehalych,
Do you have any idea why the starting 3 digital of my VIN different from neither TMA nor KMH ? It's RFH. (I bought it new in Apr 2010)

Where did you find that sticker?
There are only three places where VIN can be found in i30 and neither seems to look similar to yours
(http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m590/meehalych/e257bc13.png)
It seems to me to belong to a certain part as one can make out "Part number" and "Serial number" right under those capital letters
-
I did not see it neither near driver's door nor on the windscreen, so I open the bonnet to find another one. Then I found the two stickers in the engine room, near the fender, both left and right side.
It shows "Vehicle Identification Number" which is in red, on the top of sticker.
Below the VIN number, it shows "Part No. XXXXXXXXXXX" and "Serial No. XXXXXXXX"
I'll try to check the one which is under my seat, and take a better photo of this sticker tomorrow.
-
here one can decode first three letters of VIN, which are known as WMI (World Manufacturers Identification)
as for RFH: RF - Taiwan; FH - there is nothing there
http://www.angelfire.com/ca/TORONTO/VIN/WMI.html (http://www.angelfire.com/ca/TORONTO/VIN/WMI.html)
-
...I found the two stickers in the engine room, near the fender, both left and right side.
Does the other one you found start with "LFH"?
In which case the letters could mean "Left Fender [Hyunda]" and "Right Fender [Hyundai]"
Or maybe not.
-
Cool ! :goodjob2: It does mean Taiwan. So the sticker is the correct VIN.
However, can you decode my car is equipped with U engine ?

If Shambles is right, that sticker belongs to fender and has nothing to do with VIN
could you write down that Part number, which is inscribed on the sticker?
I have tried to replace those first three letters with both TMA and KMH, but nothing worked - VIN is invalid
-
Oh, thanks for reminder.
Indeed I forgot to take the photo of another sticker. But this RFH xxxxxx sticker is on driver side, we are left drive here. So it seems not be [right fender hyundai], I think. :D
I'll check again tomorrow.
-
No vin decoder I've got (or seen) has "RF" as a Hyundai WMI
-
This morning I take a look for the one under the seat, but I still found nothing. :scared:
I took the pictures of both stickers with better quality.
Right side.

VIN is to be under the front passenger's seat
-
Do you have a manual, that came along with the car?
The VIN location points must be described there.
Could you take the photo of the wind screen's lower left corner (unless the steering wheel is located on right) and the photo of driver's side sill, where the identification plate is to be placed according to the screen shot I posted here?
Part number, inscribed on that sticker of yours doesn't exist.
VIN is to be dublicated and engraved on the body of car.
My advice is, if you won't find other VIN locations, to come to a dealer, where the car was purchased, and ask them to show you those places.
-
The VIN should also be among your registration and certificate of ownership papers.
-
Tks, will take more photos and check the papers for confirming the information on the sticker. :sweating:
-
Just took some photos...
Driver's side sill, nothing there.
Lower portion of windscreen, also nothing there.
Under passenger seat, I found it, and it's same number as the sticker in the bonnet.

At least you found one :D
what about my question concerning car manual?
-
May be that car was produced by one of China factories (this explains those hieroglyphs inscribed on the stickers)?
http://worldwide.hyundai.com/company-overview/profile/manufacturing.html (http://worldwide.hyundai.com/company-overview/profile/manufacturing.html)
+ The China factories, keeping pace with the world's biggest market
The China factories have a total annual production capacity of 600,000, with the establishment of a second factory capable of producing 300,000 units per year. To keep pace with the rapidly expanding Chinese market, a third factory is under construction and will be finished by 2012, bringing total China capacity to 1 million cars per year.

[/quote]
Yeah, the location of VIN shown in the manual is just as same as what you said. But actually VIN can "only" be found under passenger seat.
So, my VIN is also following the same principle of the chart on the top of this post?

apart from the first three letters, yes
-
I think (memory fades) that in Taiwan, (due primarily to some tax issues) the cars are shipped to Taiwan as parts (or partly built) and finally assembled there. There is a post about is somewhere, with much dust.
I suspect the parts originate from the Ulsan, but don't know.

4th Digit will change for 2012 model year. Older Euro models had code FDe - the new one is GDe. Other stuff will change too. If anyone works it out when they get a new car PM me and I'll update the first post.
I might have considered a new i30 but the front grille would make me sad.

I think there are different designs of grill in different models (Alanho is investigating that)

My Beijing built i30 has a VIN that roughly follows Lorian's chart.
The first three letters of my VIN are "LBE". The "L" is the code for China, and I assume the "BE" is for Beijing.

Anyone got an up to date VIN details for this thread?
-
Is there a VIN decoder for the new GD available, does anyone know?

a local dealer may say that for sure

I realize this is an old thread, however I was looking through it and compared the MKII decoder to my GD, and it is fairly spot on. The only part of the VIN decoder that didn't match or had no data was the fifth character (model) and the tenth character (model year).
The fifth digit for me was '3', which for Australia I can only presume matches up with Premium.
The tenth digit was also easy to figure out, as the value C becomes MY12, and value D becomes MY13.
I'm sure any other Aussie members here could verify the fifth character values for the Active, Elite, and Premium models by checking to see if theirs equates to 1 for Active, 2 for Elite, and 3 for Premium.

I have an Oct 2012 built Active.

Tricksy Hobbitses Hyundai. Could very well be 2 for Active, 1 for Elite, 3 for Premium, etc.

If you can figure it out i'll update the document - haven't looked at it for at least a year (been busy)
