My brother has returned bearing gifts :) I picked up the new grill from him as soon as they got home today then a quick sprint over to the paint shop to get the outer ring painted body colour ( sleek silver ) should have it back by Tuesday then need to organise having it fitted.
I think it'll be a huge improvement on the current grill

I like it.
-
REPORT AND STUFF OF PROGRES AND MODS :D
I'm thinking of changing to this grill aswell ;)
-
Personally I'd like the Turbo model grill but there are differences in the front end so I'm not to sure if it would even fit...not that I could find any for sale anyway.
-
Looking good Craig. :goodjob:
-
What Dave and Lorian Said! :goodjob:
-
It's nice, I saw it on ebay.
They sell it from korea.

Yes it's bought through kmotors, an OEM Mobis part.
-
great, hope you will send a photo after fitting it
:goodjob2:
-
More than likely :D
-
Looks choice,
Dare I ask how much.

Oh yea, i totally forgot, that you have different front grill :S

$199US is what they cost $255AU
-
I cant wait to see it on the car mate - I am still a bit divided about it. I am going to get my original grill painted a sating black I am thinking along with all the other black bits front and back (including badges!)
-
Now that's different, can't say yea or Nah yet until I see it on the car :whistler:

Know what you mean, i'm still on the fence, too. I need to see one in the wild first.

There's plenty of reviews out there which show how they look on the car.

I know that, I've seen loads of pictures of the new grille, but camera lenses distort somewhat. Want to get up close and personal :snigger:

The picture of the grill on the red car above looks no different to the grill placed in my first post, no distortion of camera angles that I can tell when comparing to what's sitting in my living room ( on it's own couch :D )
There is also another grill design that I've pictured below, so far this has been the only type I've seen on any of the i30's here in our sales yards, I don't like this one as much.

I found out from Hyundai this morning that the mount for the license plate on the new grills retail for $160  ( luckily they give me trade price :) ) and Hyundai also list my grill as just over $1000 :faint:
-
Yep yours is much nicer Craig.. :goodjob:
-
I like this grill

i'd paint it black to match your wheels.

i'd paint it black to match your wheels.
I was thinking that too, but then there is the hassle of dismantling the grill as every louver is individually screwed in with extra panels on top of each louver that need removing and also the alloy strips that are pressed to the bottom of each louver, it'd be a nightmare to paint
Plus once a grill is painted it starts to chip away pretty quickly when out in everyday driving.
-
Definately didn't like the one on the silver car
-
Is it just me or are those 2 grills different one has chrome strips all the way to the edge
-
Is it just me or are those 2 grills different one has chrome strips all the way to the edge
Yes they are two different styles, base model is the silver car and the grill is made in Thailand...the red cars grill ( same as mine ) is made in Korea.
-
Out of the two I prefer the one on the silver car or Craigs, with the slim chrome trim :goodjob:
-
Any burgers on this grill
-

Well there's only two choices and you prefer both  the slim chrome trim on mine is actually polished aluminium, the base model version is chrome as is the one that is currently on the car that will be removed.
-
Any burgers on this grill
Only burgers you'll get off my grill is road kill, you'll also have to make them yourself :D
-
I'll have some new photos tomorrow, car goes in at 8am for the new grill and freshly painted surround to be fitted :happydance:
-
Can't wait. If it's as good as i hope it is, it'll be on my shopping list. :goodjob:

You can buy both styles through sharkracing now as well as ordering them pre-painted for an extra $40US and free shipping :link: 2012-2015 i30-Elantra GT Factory Grill - Shark Racing (http://www.sharkracing.com/2012-2015-i30-elantra-gt-factory-grill/)

It must be the way the camera is catching the light because to me the red one looks like a lot chunkier slats going across compared to the silver one

It won't affect your warranty except on the grill.. or anything damaged while changing the grill..
@ Craig.. Looking forward to the photos M8 (a nice Mod!)

Just picked her up, I think it looks great :), two thirds of the impact foam behind the grill had to be removed as it just doesn't fit with the new grill though it's supposed to be compatible with the other style 2012-2014 grill.
-
That's very nice............. It has something.
Pity you have stick a butt-ugly registration plate on it. :Pout:
-
Yeah rego plates will spoil it, but not much that can be done about it unfortunately as we've all gotta have em :(
It'll be a couple of weeks with the plate in the window now as I'm still waiting on the mount to be delivered.
-
Craig, was it tricky to install?
-
Craig, was it tricky to install?
Trickiest part was driving to the panel & paint shop who installed it for me
If you've got all the stuff ( tools/space/skills ) necessary to change it then it's doable, the guys at the shop did have some issues getting it to fit with the impact foam that sits behind the grill so most of it had to be cut away, the new grill isn't as rounded/forward projection as the old and with the bit of stuffing around it took them about 2 or 3 hours.

What if they were these style?

Slimline for the front of course.

Slimline plates would look nicer though you would still need the mount, the space between the two centre louvers is only 45mm.

I just picked up a MY16 ActiveX with the new grille. Personally I prefer the old SR front grille.
Though the new model comes with additional perks :)

I think you'll find your Active X grill is different to the version I have used, there are two types...one is premium and the other is for the base models Active and Active X.
-
Hey CraigB - if you still have your old grill can you tell me if you can remove the chrome trim on the top part of the grill? I am curious as to whether I can just take this off or if I have to paint it (or maybe go for a new grill....) Cheers mate
-
Yeah the trim is removable but you'll be left with screw and push clip holes, I'd paint over it if that's the way you're wanting to go.
-

:crazy1: :p :)

I just liked the silver/black look you had going. I would have painted the old grill to match your rims.
-
The grill is still black, just with alloy highlight strips all the way down instead of two chrome strips at the top :)
I've already had a few people ask what it is, no one asked before :D
-
it suits Craig's car, silver or white car with black rims and that grill makes it look sporty, pity you have to plonk a reg plate on it.

Thanks, yeah the plate placement is something I'm pondering at the moment, trying to find something where I might be able to mount it on the nose cone below the grill "without drilling holes" not looking good though so I'll be stuck with it having to go smack in the middle of the grill unfortunately :Pout:

Don't ever recall saying it was the same grille as yours sunshine. No need to act like a posh pommy here champ, it's just a Hyundai after all

I'm not acting posh, you posted in my topic which is about the upmarket grill so I instinctively thought that you "thought" they were the same :winker:

$247 I think the slim lines are Dazz, not sure if it's worth it or not...I'm still pondering :)
-
Just been down to Rocky Hyundai to finally pick up the license plate mount, doesn't look to bad I don't think as I put smaller black surrounds on the plate as well, some slim lines would be more appealing still but that can wait as the next step now is the exhaust :D

I didn't realise you were were an efn 57 model, Craig.... :whistler:

I have to admit, it now look complete. Prior to the plate going on I thought it was a little "in yer face, posh pommy sunshine". But now... :goodjob:

Cant have that posh pommy look, I'd need a Range Rover

Agreed. Looks good.

My 2015 came out with this grill :D
Yet to see another one on the Sunny Coast :P

Isn't your grill the one with the chrome strips that are only 3/4 length of the grill :undecided: there's two new styles...one for the Actives and one with the full length aluminium strips used on the Elite models which is the one I have.

Yeah I think so, none of the dealers up here have any 2015 models on show they only had the old 2014 models (I didn't want them)...
I picked mine without even looking at it, didn't see it till I picked it up
-
I decided I'd put the correct energy absorber on to match the new grill, the original absorber didn't match the grill so most of it had to be cut away and I thought I had better replace it in case there was any legality issues in an accident.
Hyundai found it near impossible to work out the correct part number so now that I have it I've put up photos for others to match in the future if they decide to go the same path.
"NOTE" this part does not fit the 2015/2016 active front grill.

I am disgusted that a poster should be so insulting to a respected member of the forum, just because he takes a pride and pleasure in improving his car.
If it were up to me - I would ban him - we have no room for uncouth and aggressive contributors here

Learn some manners.

Someone has major insecurities issues  I was just pointing out that there are differences between the two types of grills for those that may not have known.
This is also your second attempt at trying to throw insults my way so maybe you need to deal with that inferiority complex before coming back to the forum and making a further fool of yourself :whistler:

This thread has certainly attracted it's fair share of abuse... :whistler:

Hi Craig
How do you install/remove the license plate mount?
I have the other grill even I have an elite, but it's tourer :P anyway the thing is that it also comes with the massive plate mount for Europe. I thought at the beginning it was cool now I think a smaller plate mount will show more of the grill silver strips.
My car has slim plates btw, I considered cutting the existing plate mount but on second thougths looks like a good way to uglify the car.
Probably will have to check with the dealer if they have something for slim plates.
Just been down to Rocky Hyundai to finally pick up the license plate mount, doesn't look to bad I don't think as I put smaller black surrounds on the plate as well, some slim lines would be more appealing still but that can wait as the next step now is the exhaust :D

Hi Craig
How do you install/remove the license plate mount?
Just a few screws behind the rego plate.
I think my plate mount would still be small enough to suit slim plates W 280mm x H 115mm
-
Craig apologies for hijacking your post, I just wanted to share my experience.
In my case the tourer has a grill with plate holder as part of it, ie, it is part of the grill, nothing to be mounted/dismounted so that the actual chrome strips in the middle are very short.
One thing I couldn't stand is the plate been installed below the actual holder so I had to work on my first modification, plate frame was adding to the height so I got rid of it. I like the result.
I am inclined to add so chrome strips that run all the way on those horizontal thin bars. Hopefully it won't look bad

That's odd, you can buy the grill without the plate mount and there are also options to have the plate mounted at the bottom with front spoiler kit ( pictured below ), possibly the mount clips on in your one which would mean you'll have to remove the front nose cone.
I was at my Hyundai service centre last week where the service/parts team were doing up a new i30 with your Grill, there was no license plate attached and they had completely black sprayed the whole grill and emblem...looked very good :goodjob2: and they'd done a spoiler kit and put 18" wheels on it.
Maybe Tim - Cruiserfied might see this post and have some advice on how to remove yours if possible :undecided:
-
Another thing you could do is contact your local Hyundai service centre and ask why the "huge" Euro plate mount hasn't been replaced with one that is applicable to our plate sizing, surely they cant leave it like that
-
I would have thought that the mount would come off but i could be wrong. I'll see if i can find anymore info today.

Nice colour! But I have to agree, grill doesn't look as nice as Craig's with the shorter bars and big blank area...
-
Trust me, there is nothing to dismount, all is part of a single piece. My guess is that it given that this car is manufactured in Czech Republic for European markets it is more economical to do so.
As to the dealer, well they haven't been very proactive during this time, on the other hand I see countless of cars from all different brands fitted with european plated mounts I don't think a dealer will bother fitting the right mount given the myriad of plate size that Australia offers.
I think I just have to live with it, I like it moving that plate slightly above, and also add that chrome strip to see how things look.

I see what you mean now, bugger :disapp:
If it was me I'd buy a new grill from Shark Racing just to get rid of that mount, but that's me :)
-
Nah, it would cost me a few hundred dollars, yet I think I can improve the looks with only $3, I will let the club evaluate the results when finished.

Time for an old-new grill, resurrecting the classic as I gave her a nice coat of matt black today and she's come up a treat, lets see how long it takes me to fit as it looks so damn good I want to fit it now :)
-
Two and a half hours later and she's done :sweating:
While I had the front off decided to try something different with the induction, as you can see the standard box is back in with a K&N filter, now fitted up to the larger 60mm throttle body and I've fitted some 76mm ducting to the intake side of the airbox then routed it down through the well and behind the bumper to catch the cooler air.
The flow should be roughly the same as what I had with the pod setup due to the increased intake volume though it'll get cleaner air now.
Here she is looking lean and mean :) I need a bloody cup of tea after that :coolingoff:

Either grill I like but I felt like it needed a change, with the original impact foam back in place the bumper sits a little nicer :)
-
Do you think you'll sell the other one or keep it as a spare.
-
Probably end up selling it, my collection of spares in the garage is getting rather excessive with exhaust pieces - tail lights - springs - filters - OEM intake parts and tons of aftermarket induction fittings.
-
Yeah, your garage will be getting smaller by the day!
-
Definitely not much room here, I could move it all to the other house but then if I ever wanted something it wouldn't be here if I needed it, plus I cant be bothered transferring it all
