I think this is a pretty safe prediction. Firstly, the styling. Although the initial reaction to the styling was a bit negative, many online find that once they see it in the flesh it is growing on them. The new grill is an acquired taste, but the conservative styling is quite handsome in the flesh and definitely won't date like the new Civic. The new Impreza definitely doesn't look as good either in my opinion ( or drive quite as well overall).
I've driven a lot of cars since I bought my top of the line Holden Calais and the new PD SR is the only one that has impressed me. Considering it is at least one class below the Calais size wise (probably two) it says a lot for the new i30.
Despite my wife having major reservations about downsizing, I do not expect to regret my decision. I should take delivery Friday 30th June. :happydance:

I'd have to agree with you. My first thought on the PD's looks was initially negative, however after seeing it in the flesh I really like it!
I'm sure you won't regret your decision to downsize. The 1.6 turbo petrol is great and the DCT is a sharp transmission.
My first car was an XD Elantra (hence the username) and the new AD Elantra SR is just as impressive. It does have less tech but is an outstanding car just like the PD.
I think our next purchase will be the Elantra SR in either a manual or DCT ... Still to decide. I'm a sucker for a great looking sedan.

Cheers for that! To be honest I really like the Elantra SR too, but the deals aren't as sharp and Autonomous Cruise was a must have on my next vehicle. I like sedans for the bigger boot and Trish would have preferred the dash I think. :undecided:

Dazz have you driven one of the top of the line Focus? I have two friends with them one has 350,000 up on a diesel DCT not one problem and the car feels very solid. the other has ordered his third new model Focus all petrol one was XR5 second was STI now waiting on his new Focus RS 4wd Turbo think 2.2 petrol makes a lot of power & Torque but very long waiting time after you order. the Focus have read and also front camera as my friend with the Focus with 350,000 up showed me how when you get close to a car when parking it will show you how close with front camera. drives like new .

Trish hates fords, so not a lot of point. My experience hasn't been good with them either. Had a bit to do with them as company cars. Had an XR6 and a Laser Wagon and Ford Courier Ute at different jobs over the years and all got rattly and bomby quite quickly. They don't seem very good quality to me and dated interiors generally.
I like the look of the current Mustang but not impressed with the Ancap safety rating and would have to get the V8 which is too thirty and expensive. Also really like the look and specs of the Mondeo Diesel but read some horror stories about the fit and finish and because they are poor sellers suspect resale would also be poor. Don't mind the styling of the current Focus but reckon overall the new i30 would be a better car.
