Gee, I wonder where they got this design...

I was just looking at the CNN Web site for a peek at the Detroit Auto Show opening up this Sunday. Guess what Government Motors (GM) is coming out with:

The description:

"Stricter fuel economy rules require not just more fuel efficient cars, but more fuel efficient cars that customers will actually buy. That's why the design of the upcoming next-generation Chevrolet Aveo -- previewed in this show car -- is so crucial for GM.
Under its curving lines, the Aveo RS is powered by the a turbocharged 138-horsepower four-cylinder engine. There has been no announcement about expected fuel economy or whether this particular engine would be offered in the production version of the Aveo."

Those specs (apart from the turbocharge) are EXACTLY those of the i30 2.0 petrol.

I wouldn't have bought it anyway, especially not after they killed Saturn  (my previous car lasted 14 years, 231103km, and still looked great due to its plastic body panels).

Besides the Elantra Touring is the best-built car I've ever seen or owned. I've never seen any other car that has the rear light clusters that have STAINLESS STEEL pins to hold them on to the car, along with REAL metal screws (not those cheap "plastic retainers"...)

I dont know how much input the seppos had on this design - but I think its a Daewoo made in South Korea - just like Barina, Viva, Craptiva, Cruz etc.

Straight from Wikipedia

"Daewoo Motor's 1997 LeganzaDaewoo Motor Co., Ltd. was founded when the Daewoo Group purchased Saehan Motor in 1978, but the Daewoo Motor name appeared only in 1983.

Daewoo Motor arrived in the UK in 1995. At the time, it was the only manufacturer not using traditional dealerships; it owned and operated its own retail network. It was once considered to be near the top 10 motor companies in terms of production.

Daewoo was forced to sell off its automotive arm, Daewoo Motor, to General Motors in 2001. Since then, GM has been moving to rebadge Daewoo cars as models for many brands, including Chevrolet, Buick,Pontiac, Holden, Opel... The GM Daewoo nameplate was kept only for South Korea and Vietnam.

Daewoo Commercial Vehicles Division was sold to Tata Motors of India."

wow,i thought daewoo was gone

Holden inports a few Daewoo models, Viva, Barina, Cruz and Craptiva.  The Craptiva is not called CRAPtiva for nothing.  Today Tonight had one of their high quality journalistic articles on them a week or so ago.  I nearly wet my pants with laughter especially when one of the disgruntled owners said how they are colloquially known as a Craptiva.  I think he said it was a mechanic at a Holden dealer who told him!  One of them had been back to the dealer 32 times and was still not right.

Its surprising how many people don't realise they are actually buying a Daewoo.

And here's another one being unveiled by GM, The Chevy Volt MPV.

Have they stolen a car designer? Look at the windows

This just goes to prove that Hyundai had it right way before the others    :D
