With all the Black highlights on the car the Silver doesn't look quite right (in mine and Trish's opinion...) I'll see what she thinks when she gets home in a couple of weeks...

At the moment they sort of blend with the car.. Might look better with Chrome door handle covers off ebay .. I might have to photoshop some on and see how it looks (But ultimately Trishie's decision)  :scared:

You could always crack the headlights open and paint them silver too

If you aren't careful you'll end up with a 2007 model.

Seriously, leave painting them for a while and they'll become less important. Taking the headlining out must be avoided!

I'm sure they could be sprayed "in situ", with careful masking and a dust cover over the rest of the car.

I like silver, and mines are black.

Apart from the fact you are on the other side of the world and we would both have to pull the head lining out it is a good idea...

Hi.

Just one correction.

I think that there is a little mistake, because accim is from Europe and on Europe the CW have roof rails.

On USA and Canada the Elantra have not.

carib

Thanks for looking .. Steve.. I reckon the end cover slide off or clip off somehow.. :goodjob:

I actually said that early in the thread but then got given a bum steer by an insider  :winker:

Lucky as it happens as if I had known that I might have whipped them off and sprayed them black while Trish was in Darwin.. whereas now we both like the Silver (with the Chrome door handle covers added)  :goodjob:

Thanks for the photos and the info Steve.. I went into your photobucket and retrieved the image links ... you just click on the fourth option down and it copied that to the clipboard then you paste the image link to your thread and the picture comes up (not just the link)  :goodjob:

As an aside, how do those ebay crome handles go? Are they ok or dodgy?

I have the crome handles from ebay they are really good, we have not had them for long so can't say how they will last. but look like they are of good quality.
They are also easy to fit.
Trish

For A$15 + A$10 postage they fit really neatly.. they dont look like covers once they are on (look like proper chrome handles)

They feel the same as normal door handles.

Very interesting thread. 2i30s, thanks for the pics. Now, if only I can find someone who wants to swap a black set of roof rails for my silver set, I'd be very happy. (I'm in Brisbane, but sure we can come to some arrangement) :D :D

Regarding the chrome door handles. I've had them on for several months and not only do they look great, they are holding up very well. A bit of advice for anyone thinking of getting a set off eBay, get them from the Korean or Hong Kong store, they are sooo much cheaper.

I wish I was smart enough or computer savvy to post photo's of my little handy work  :-[

I've just recently finished my roof cross bars after spraying them silver and they look good  :) the black Repco Rola cross bars stood out on the silver roof rails like dogs danglers and made the roof look a bit cheap and nasty but now with them being silver they blend in as part of the car and I'm very pleased.

I posted some pics of my chrome handles when I fitted them. Hope this shows what you were looking for.

Well done, good work finding the clue to removing the roof rails... I am thinking of a compromise... Don't really like the silver rails on my CW but don't want to paint them or pay for a whole new set.  My thought is to try and source 4 x end caps in BLACK and have a combination.. black ends with silver bars... like many other car makes have.  Might be a cheap way out, can always put the old silver ones back later if needed plus if I get silver Whispbar cross bars then they won't look odd fitted to the original silver bits.   ?

Unless I can find a nice wrecker person out there it looks like I will be staying with the silver rails.  Had considered getting a set of 4 BLACK covers for the ends BUT spoke with Hyundai Parts contact here in Adelaide.... their list price is $85 each.... Over $110.oo each RRP.   :fum:
That is just for the plastic end covers not the entire rail setup... WHOA!  I think I might get into the plastics moulding business.
There goes my theory of a compromise of black ends and silver rails.

 Before you do, slip into a local plastics injection moulding factory and ask them to show you a mould and what's involved in making it. Pick something simple like an ice cream container.
