Looks like a good day :goodjob2: the snacks on the table would have distracted me from the vehicles :) so what are the final decisions on the models and engines we'll be getting here?
I wonder if they added the surfboard just for Trev :workitout:
works for me via tapatalk Lester...And for me in the Edge browser.

Not opening for me either. It shows my Google account but there's just a Join button. Am I supposed to join in order to see the images? :confused:Mine does the same thing but then just opens automatically.
Looks like a decent presentation. He was an excellent presenter, obviously knew his stuff and communicated it well. And threw in just the right amount of humour to keep everyone interested.
My mentor and reason for success Mr Peter Quinn front and centre presenting.

He's an obvious asset to Hyundai Australia.
One more point comes to mind. I read somewhere some criticism (or at least somewhat negative comment) about the positioning of the touch screen which whilst centre mounted, sits out form the main line of the dash and at least in photos, gives the impression it might intrude in the driver's road vision. It doesn't. In fact, I reckon it's perfectly placed. I made the comment during our test drive and later, when Justin from "Hy.Life" was driving, he agreed with me.I know I've commented on the touch screen before, wasn't regarding blocking view though as that would be a huge design fault, I was more concerned with how it sticks out from the dash which looks very unappealing to me, another concern of mine would be how long the touch screen is going to last in Australian summers now that it isn't protected underneath the dash :undecided: electronics and sunlight/heat don't mix well.

Any mention of the i30RN?i30N.
280kw AWD sounds like the perfect replacement for the FD wagon!

I've read that the lower trim levels won't have the screen at all, very curious as to how the dashboard layout will be then
Some really good information from the slides. It appears that most models will get a full range of active safety features and that this will make Hyundai a leader in the budget car segment in terms of safety features. Not many cars which would have active cruise control in most of the range at this price segment. Not to mention the other features such as blind spot monitor and rear cross traffic alert.Yep.
It looks like the autonomous emergency braking works at both high and low speed and has pedestrian detection.
One disappointing feature seems to be that the new turbo engine still doesn't appear as efficient as some other manufacturers such as Volkswagen.
By efficient I mean output in terms of fuel economy. Golf GTI has combined fuel economy of 6.2 manual and 6.6 DSG. From the slides it seemed like Hyundai's turbo engine would be around 7.7L/100km.Fair comment.
I've earlier commented on the placement of the screen. I don't like the look of it, but when seated in the car it's placed perfect for view and use.If my memory serves me correctly, the "Active" won't have the 8" screen initially but I'm sure they suggested it would become standard even on that model before long. Initially there's a smaller screen in the "Active" but missing the fancy Driver Assist technology.

I remember being skeptical when Hy contacted the forum, that it would only be a PR stunt. Happy to be proven wrong and :goodjob: to Hyundai Australia for involving the end users.
Thanks for the news. Looks like a good time was had. I'm afraid the pictures of the car I have seen have left me uninspired, I am hoping it has more appeal in real life.
Has Crdi become 1.6D?
Still can't see why they don't use the 1.7 in the i40.... What a rocket that would be :happydance:
Looks like a nice event and glad you enjoyed it :goodjob:Good pick up.
Noticed the slide comparing GD vs PD - luggage 378 to 395 litres. Is this at the expense of the spare wheel, I wonder? In the UK the S (base spec) has a tyre repair kit as standard, in lieu of a spare wheel.
The entry level price will surprise some (maybe many).

Will the new i30 have wireless CarPlayI believe so.

But I (seriously) can't tell you yet.
I was asked to not pass it on until Hyundai announces it.
Now for the question that all motoring journalists will ask......In one of the break out rooms they had a current Corolla and Mazda 3 for comparison. I heard some of the dealer attendees commenting that at least one of them lacked rear air vents, so I'm guessing, "yes".
Does it have rear air vents?????
What completly useless thing will they pick on now.....Interesting.
They obviously don't have kids, the i40 has air vents in the rear, and all the little buggers do is play with them.....Can't reach them with your hands? thats what feet are for :crazy1:
Don't all the GD's have vents under the front seats directed into the rear footwells :undecided: mine has them. What completly useless thing will they pick on now.....Interesting.

My Subarus had rear air vents. Well "outlets". They were under the front seats and directed cool air into the rear footwells. Controlled from the dash IIRC. Nothing for the kids to reach.
Well I'll be blowed! I never knew the FD has rear vents!
Yeah. I did.Well I'll be blowed! I never knew the FD has rear vents!
Sounds like Trevor didn't either..
I think most fairly recent cars have some air directed under the seats into the back. I seem to recall our Getz and previous Pulsars and Tiida did (but when you change cars as often asAlanwe do, they all get scrambled...)
The PD that I checked out last week had twin rear adjustable vents, just below knee level.Yep. The PD certainly has them.
Will the new i30 have wireless CarPlay
I assume you mean Google Car Play/ Android Auto.
I mean wireless using Apple CarPlay
thanks for the thread, from what I can see in the photos the SR is only in an Auto? can anyone confirmI didn't see anything to suggest that, but I'm waiting on some more detailed documentation.
Premium petrol and SR model only comes with 7DCT, diesel and Active models get a manual option.cheers Craig, a bit disappointing I guess have to wait for the i30N :goodjob2: surly that will have the manual option
I would imagine so if they're doing it as a proper sport vehicle, they might still have an auto option for the non purists :head_knock: :DPremium petrol and SR model only comes with 7DCT, diesel and Active models get a manual option.cheers Craig, a bit disappointing I guess have to wait for the i30N :goodjob2: surly that will have the manual option
Still haven't found those rear air vents in Firty. :(
Off-Topic:Quote from: The GonzStill haven't found those rear air vents in Firty. :(
Under the front seats - they're "Y" shaped
You may find a flap has fallen down covering them - just needs pushing back up. Had to do that on Fergie many times.
Just be aware it can be a bit hard to find the flaps in the dark.. :TutTut:

There dosen't seem to be many issues with the DCT. They have had them in a number of cars now without issue. The HMCA guys explained it in detail, including why it's better than the VW type.
I don't know much about the maintence side though.
DCT and MT will run behind the 1.6T and 1.6CRDi.
Traditional auto and MT behind 1.6P and 2.0P.
This applies to Australia only. Information may differ at final release. Other markets may be the same or different.

I've driven the same package in the Veloster and Elantra SR's. They break in after 4-5000km's and as long as your reasonable with your expectations they are very fun to drive.

I have read on Veloster and Elantra SR's forums some concerns regarding low speed pre-ignition in these donks,
Anything to be concern about or mindful of?
Hyundai web has been updated today :link: Reinvented i30 - Hyundai Australia (http://www.hyundai.com.au/cars/small-cars/reinvented-i30/reinvented-i30)
Thanks for the great post. Any word on the release date to dealers? The A league finals start this weekend.
got told by the dealer that the i30 will be out from next week and thinks that it will start at $22,000 for the manual active and $2000 more for manual. active X is dropped

However, it shoots down that $39000 price quoted above.
Now, wait for the high impact advertisement on TV.
I was expecting not much over $35,000 imo that's good value, but $39,000 is to much, my guess is that because Doncaster Hyundai is the dealer in Victoria to get one in the show room, they will adjust the pricing the suit them. He told me the Active is $25,000 on road and a Elite is $34,000, with the Premium matching the SR premiums price of $39,000 - including metallic paint too.
And the Elite model needs to have the 1.4 t engine option added, because the step up from Active to Elite is too much. That's why they have the SR :)
Have they replaced the carpet with something better?I don't know.
After cleaning out the Wife's i30, I had forgotten just how bad it is :whistler:

Had a brief glimpse over a PD yesterday in the showroom at Rockinghamand your opinion Craig?
Looks from the outside is ok though a bit plain, I couldn't see what the rear looked as they had the hatch up, windows were up so didn't really get a great look inside as you couldn't get closer than a metre with the rope around it :rolleyes:Had a brief glimpse over a PD yesterday in the showroom at Rockinghamand your opinion Craig?
Hi There.Unless they have a new policy I'd expect it to be similar to the previous GD model which received 3 years free updates, and they're always a year behind other systems such as Garmin-Tomtom-Metroview
Anyone know whether hyundai dealers are or will be offering 10 year free life time map updates for GPS in the new i30.
Not 100% sure whether I have this correct in my mind. So please do correct me if I'm wrong.
Thanks
@Dazzler I found the same. I was worried I wasn't going to like the look of the front end after all the pictures but was more that surprised at how damn sexy it really is in person. Was never worried about the rear.
One thing I instantly disliked was the SR alloys with the large centre cap. Don't like it at all.
I didn't notice the wheels either 🙃 Not keen on the centre caps myself😒
Dazz, what's the little gold hatch in the background?

Gee, what are you doing up at this crazy hour @cruiserfied :crazy1: :snigger:
Funny, I didn't notice how large the centre caps were until you said. I don't mind the wheels and ironically I don't think Trish is convinced about the new styling from what she saw in my photos (she didn't go with me today) but she said, "I like the wheels" :D

I like the wheel itself, just not the centre. First SR I get on my hoist I'm going to pop the cap off and see what's underneath lol.

If we ever got one I guess it wouldn't be a huge job to spray the caps to match the wheel colour. :goodjob:

Yeah I had that thought too, or spray the rim to match the cap
Actually no, I hate factory rims repainted, always look cheap.
Something to check out in 4 1/2 years time .
I don't mind Dazz, I don't expect everyone to have good taste like me
..and I hate the trend for black wheels (sorry Craig) I think it's an age thing... :undecided:

With our FD getting into an accident the other week. We test drove the new i30... I thought the GD was an excellent car, but Hyundai have mailed it yet again!
Unbelievable drive. The Active is value packed. We're looking at the i30 SR with the DCT... Awesome transmission that is seriously smooth and fun to drive.
The tech package it class leading and kill absolutely leave the Corolla, 3 and Astra tailing well behind.
The i30 is definitely a competitor against the Golf. Outstanding car.
Our only issue is we love the Elantra SR, I have a big soft spot for sedans.

We went back to the dealership we bought the Santa Fe from the other month. He was great and let us drive the Elantra Elite, Elantra SR, i30 SR and i30 Elite.
We thought the Elantra Elite was nice, but then we drove the SR and was like driving a completely different car. Loved everything about it. The interior and exterior are spot on.
The i30 SR was brilliant as well, the tech being a big selling point.
I think while the i30 SR has great tech, it does miss out on the heated seats, LED head lights and sunroof as standard. If we're spending 30k and wanting to keep the car for a good 5 years +, I reckon the Elantra will be more enjoyable.
Hyundai has done a great job on these two cars.
Once we get the i30 wagon back we'll sell it off and stick with the one car for a few months before make the plunge.
Cruiserfied, do you know of any updates to the Elantra SR in the next couple of months? I'm wondering if they will make a few tweaks to the specs to bring it inline with the i30...

Wonder how people will go with the 5000km servicing on the petrol turbos. There could be a lot of neglected i30's in the future:Shocked:
Interesting that the serice intervals on the petrol turbo is now 10,000km... I could have sworn I saw 5000km on the Veloster and Elantra.... I'll have to get ony desktop PC and have a look. Hyundai's servicing website doesn't work on tablets and phones properly

Yep 10K for the turbo
5k servicing? the oil would barley be warm.
Shame the DPF has appeared on the diesel i30, I had assumed we would avoid that again. Not a huge issue for me, but the good wife does not go far enough to keep a DPF alive.

Considering we are now at Euro5 and will be Euro6 by the end of the year there's no way around it.
You all stress way too much on DPF's and the PD is pretty trick because it will do burns more often and more efficiently than even.
In my time I've replaced 2 DPF's. Both purely because they services at a repco or ultratune and they put basic Diesel oil in them not the C3 rated stuff.
Beerman, you say there is no lights that appear when a regen cycle to being done on your i40?5k servicing? the oil would barley be warm.

Like the battery in Hybrid car argument?
Do they have a switch to do a burn? Would be handy if you knew you were going to do a reasonable trip to let the car know.
With the i40 there is no light or way of knowing when it is going, reset the fuel economy gage the other week and saw one happen on the way home, I was surprised by how long it went on for.

Our new Santa Fe has some suspicious fuel line that looks like it goes to the exhaust, but I have never seen it do a regen cycle. Could it have a DPF?
One thing that really stood out to me when driving the PD diesel with the DCT was how much engine vibration there was.
I'd say it was equivalent to the FD. Our GD had far less cabin vibration.
One a side note. The Navigation system in the PD is awesome!
I loved how it has that airplane cabinet announcement tone before the navigation says something, the rear speakers continue to play music while the front speakers ones tell you the directions.
The system even displays the weather and continuously changes as you drive through different suburbs.

Santa Fe only had DPF in the very first Diesels and only with Auto transmissions. The 2.2R has never had a DPF in Australia. (The 2.0R in the IX35 has always had a DPF though)
