Hi,
I drive a i30 1.6 HDI and the cruise control has stopped working. The blue light turns on when engaging the cc but it doesn't Work. Does anyone know where it is located or how to trouble shoot?

Cruise control will not activate unless the brakes have been applied after start up. Has the brake light switch been updated. If not it is probably faulty.

Our CC stopped working about 6 months ago - tracked it down to the sensors on the brake and clutch, replaced those and all good again.

Hi, thank you for your reply,
I am aware that the brak needs to have been applied before cc works. The brakelights work fine but can it still be a malfunction in the beakelight swicth?

Hi that sounds interesting. Could you please describe where these sensors are located?

There was a product recall to replace the brake switch in Australia, check with your dealer.

The sensors are the switches and they're located inside the cabin near the brake and clutch pedals. But, as Phil say, contact you dealer and ask if there's a recall for the brake switch.

Had mine replaced due to a recall a few years back, long after warranty was expired. I hadn't experienced any failure with the brake lights but it was replaced anyway.

From memory though all in the same switch - the contacts for lighting the brake lights, and the contacts for CC detecting the brake pedal is pushed are electrically separate.

If I am recalling that correctly (and not making it up) then it is possible for the brake lights to light up while the CC doesn't see the pedal has been applied...

I think that was basically the crux of the recall... the switch was faulty... the brake lights did (usually) light - sometimes with a 100-200mS delay... but CC was more often noticed/affected/reported.

Your mostly right mate.
The circuits are seperate but the recall was because of delay of up to 1 sec before brake lights came on and ESC light on dash.

Thanks.  Thought I had might have mucked up some of the details - thought it might have been regards to brake light working vs CC not.   I assume, though electrically separate, the contacts would be the same design/mirror - so I wasn't sure why the CC side only would go faulty.  Turns out it wasn't.

Didn't realise the recall was because of an up to 1sec delay... that is a bit of a delay.

Ok I tried to replace the brake switch. Unfortunately it didn't make any difference.
The cc doesn't activate even though the blue cruise mark lights up. Anyone have an idea how to further troubleshoot?

I assume so, it was similar to the old one which has worked previously

IIRC, there was no obvious external difference.
But one contains the switching for a car with CC, the other doesn't.
There were numerous cases of the wrong one being fitted during the recall.

There was a colour difference.
Where the connector plugs in will be Grey or Black. Black is the switch for vehicles with factory cruise.
Can you tell me whether you have vaccum or electric cruise? A picture of engine bay will tell me exactly what switch you needed.
