Well... washed the car today, put some wax & polish on it for the winter... then I spotted it... a stone impact just below the parked wiper blade on the passenger side with cracks extending in 6 different directions.

I have windscreen cover on my policy so my insurance will cover me, I'll have to pay an excess... but my screen has the "wiper de-icer" facility at the bottom of the screen, (switch on & any ice present that might have frozen the rubber blades to the glass gets melted electrically)

Now.... can I expect the replacement screen to have the same facility?
Or would my insurer be in the right to fit a screen without that facility?

I know I can ask in advance & I will... just wondered if anyone had any prior experience?

Off course they will replace it with another windscreen with the same features as the current one.

You pay the premium based on the spec's of your car, right..

Yep you should get the same screen.

When I had mine replaced I got a call from Autoglass asking me to confirm that I had the "heated windscreen" (that's what they called it). Because I said yes, it took nearly 2 months to get it imported. I think I posted my experience on here in the dim and distant past.

Sorry to hear about your crack Keith :Pout: but hopefully that gives you a warm feeling (apart from the possible delay that is)

Usually windscreen cover means no excess on windscreen claims  :undecided: Although I accepted a A$50 excess to reduce my premium...

All my car insurances have had a standard £50 excess for windscreen cover. I presume to discourage people from deliberately smashing it when it gets slightly pitted, but not enough to warrant replacement.

Not that I have ever done that you understand........... :whistler:

Yep you should get the same screen.

it took nearly 2 months to get it imported.

Now is this the starter for a POLL -- How long will Ffoxy wait for the new screen?

I'm guessing a couple of weeks, but if it was you I'd say 2 months with three attempts for the insurance to get the right one and then a leaking issue  :winker:

I have to admit, I had similar thoughts. :whistler:

Maybe we have grounds for a new saying.

Shambles: How did the windscreen fitting go, Ffoxy?
Ffoxy: They did a Lester on me: brought the wrong size

Shambles: Is it sorted yet, Ffoxy?
Ffoxy: Well they fitted it, but it leaks. A right proper Lester of a job

Shambles: It's been a couple of months now, Ffoxy, is it all sorted now?
Ffoxy: Nah.. the heated wiper system doesn't work. Built by Lesters on a Friday afternoon I guess

I'm going to have to be careful.

My wife has a cousin who's name is Lester.
Fortunately we don't see him all that often but his wife is very nice. I wouldn't want to embarrass her.

Rings should be comfortable whenever used.
Tight but not too tight.
They should be easy to pull off when desired.
And should not leave any discolouration on the skin.
They need to be attractive to the casual onlooker.
And fully appreciated by the owner.

This advice was provided many years ago by our family jeweller and still rings true today.  :D

Lester.

At school I was an easy target to be blamed for doing the odd pranks etc as if your name was john, bill, jim etc there were so many they never knew which one it was.

Once someone scratched my name into the desk top and I was taken to task over it.  I managed to convince the head that I didn't do it as would I be so stupid to scratch my own name given only one Lester in the school....
