I would check the engine to see if there are any leaks or spillage, particularly near the filter. Diesel is an oil and unlike petrol, will NOT evaporate quickly. If there's been a spill anywhere, it will continue to smell until removed. Sniff around and see if you can pinpoint the source. Take the black cover off the motor and visually check around each injector pipe to ensure all is ok. If there is contamination it must be stopped, then carefully clean the motor with a degreaser, but don't go spraying huge volumes of water in there. Use a rag, instead.

How long has it been? The filter is in close proximity to the cabin air intake so it is normal but shouldn't last more than a few days.

The strange thing is that the fuel filter is inside the tank which is under the back seat.I have  smelt around that area and there is no smell.

If its a Diesel the filter is on the firewall.

The filter that was changed was in your engine bay on the fiewall as member cruiserfied said. He is a Hyundai Technician, trust him.  :goodjob2:

Why is the smell only when it's on the recirculating setting.

Have you got an easier question!  :undecided:

Two weeks is too long! I would go back and show the dealer and demand they investigate!

The only device inside the fuel tank is the fuel pump, which is not designed to require any periodic maintenance. The filter is on the firewall only.

There is no pump in tank on a diesel.

Well, if you can't believe the manual, who can you believe.

I've owned two i30 diesel's, used to have fuel filter changed at 30,000k on both, one had 97,000k the other one 67,000k
i never smelt a diesel smell when the fuel filter was changed ever..
they remove the filter from firewall change new filter on a work bench. something sounds wrong here.

Fuel smell in cabin is not normal at any circumstances. It spilled or it is leaking. Both conditions needs intervention.

I've changed the fuel filter couple of times. There has never been a diesel smell inside the car. There is a possibility to spill diesel when you remove the fuel filter assembly out of the car, but you really have to be "talented" to do that. Does the air go inside the car from the vent which is between the bonnet and windscreen? If it is so, it could be that you have had a really talented mechanic who has spilled some diesel inside that vent when removing the filter assembly.

OFFTOPIC: I got quite good service last time when I took my car to the Hyundai dealer. I understood the difficult situation of my problem. It was a challenging situation to solve, but still at the end I was the one who finally FIXED my car. With my previous cars (and car brands) I had to deal with lying dealer workshop, crappy service etc. Most of the time I have had a shitty service (except the Hyundai service) when taking my car to the dealer workshop. That is the reason why I service my car as much as possible. The only way to know that the job is done well...
