Arghh. .fairly disappointing as it's less than 6 months / under 2000km

It started off lack of feel then yesterday I distinctly noticed that after steering left,  the wheel doesn't go back to centre / stops at 40 degree?
However turning right is very willing and goes all the way back.

Any thoughts?

You need to get the dealer to check the electric power steering actuator settings/calibration and the wheel tracking alignment.

Moderator db08 had a fairly similar experience with his GD a while back .. The Dealers weren't much help.

Got fixed accidentally by an ecu reset when the battery was disconnected for some other reason. So that would be worth a try. Disconnect one of the battery terminals for about half an hour when you get a chance. If that doesn't fix it then it's a dealer visit unfortunately. :undecided:

 :whsaid:
I had problems with heavy & dead feeling steering that was especially bad at freeway speeds and bordering on a safety issue.
Predictably, the dealership "failed to replicate the problem" when they had it for a day but as Dazz said, my car was booked in for service (at my non-Hyundai mechanic) two days later and they had cause to disconnect the battery.
Voila!
Problem fixed and after several thousand kms hasn't returned.

sounds to me like you need the electric steering column and unit replaced,I had it happen to one of mine,I just noticed it was a little heavy on the steering and it was not centring properly,I had another issue at the time and I had dropped it off at the dealers fro repair for that one, once they had done the repair, they took the car for a drive and the steering actually failed while they where driving it,it is a warranty job, this is not a unheard of situation.
It may even be just as simple as the self centring sensor needs resetting, the dealer will sort it for you.

Thanks guys!!
Rings a bell that it might be a sensor/ computer thing as this problem occurred after reconnecting battery when I return from 3 wk overseas trip.  Don't know if parking that long has caused it.
Dealer trip if it gets worse

Are you going to try an ECU reset by disconnecting the battery again?

It probably won't get worse as it's sounding like its mis calibrated rather than broken, HAS to be worth a power off re-set surely....
