Hi everyone,
I have a 2011 i30 and want to changeover the existing plain black knob for the OEM Chrome and leather knob. How do I remove the knob? I know there are two pieces, the chrome sleeve at the bottom and the knob. The Chrome sleeve has clips that once released allow the sleeve to drop down, does the knob itself then twist off or pull off? Is it help by any nuts or clips? I cannot seem to get a definitive and clear answer to what I would have thought was a frequent question. Thanks in advance for your help.

Welcome brite ! Member ugly mongrel is the only member to ever ask for assistance with this task and it ended up being a very long thread with a happy ending I think.. I'll find it and add a link to this thread :mrgreen:

Thanks...much appreciated. I have ordered the changeover OEM Chrome knob and will examine it when I get it to see how it is set-up. One is tempted to think it would just screw off, but I cannot seem to find a simple yes or no this in any of my searching. In my experience, Hyundai tend to follow a fairly straight forward and practical method of assembly, so one would think the screw on off would be likely - but, better safe than sorry.
Thanks. Melbourne, Australia

Hi Brite i30, welcome mate.
As per the link that Dazzler added to his post, it seems the solution was eventually found.
Still not sure whether Ugly Mongrel managed to sort out their Ugly Gearknob using the info posted therein, but it'll give you plenty to think about :)

Kia Sorento 2011 - Shifter Knob Removal (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rz-Y0d288dU#)
I found this link on You Tube for a 2011 Kia and it is a pull hard to get it off and push hard to pop it back on. This makes sense and one would imagine Kia and Hyundai would use the same method, but cannot be sure. As I look at it, there are three choices:
1. Drop chrome sleeve (or not if it is a single piece?) and TWIST/UNSCREW knob off and then the chrome sleeve
2. PULL hard as described in this video and as one piece
3. Drop chrome sleeve, check for ALLEN KEY, SCREWS or CLIPS that hold the knob in place.
Not sure if there as been any running changes, therefore the 2011 attachment is different.

Based on all the bits and pieces of info and pics I have seen, my thinking now is:
That the automatic shift knob POPS on and off, possibly after removing a chrome sleeve at bottom or not;
it may just be that the chrome replacement knob has the separate chrome sleeve.
I will post with photos once I have actually tackled and done it (or wrecked it).

Not got time/inclination to re-read that thread I posted at the moment but I thought that pretty much covered all the options :undecided: Between that and the video you should be in business :goodjob:
Edit: yes .. you photos and feedback would be great :happydance:
