Hi everyone :) I drive a 2011 1.4 Petrol with 8500km. The fuel consumption was stated to be 7-7.5 city driving, however my average is 10...This is fairly annoying my friend who drives a car with 3.0 petrol engine has an average fuel consumption of 12 xD Anyone have any ideas? If something wrong with the car or did the prospect lie to me xD ?

Ya 10 sounds pretty high for a 1.4..
is it a manual or auto ?
Mine is a 2 litre auto and in a 50:50 City/ Highway I get around 9-10 kmpl...
but i drive like a miser.
My tips are:
1). Always park car so that you dont have to reverse when the engine is cold.
2). accelerate smoothly
3). Brake as less as you can, but keep safe !
4). Cruise control is the car has one.
5). Driving at 5-10 kmph less than the speed limit saves a lot ! but dont do it if there is traffic behind you. I live in country area and so the roads are bit lonely.
6). Dont use Air conditioning in short trips. Infact dont use your car for short trips, just walk if possible.
7). Dont adjust the temperature too much.
8). Dont keep windows open at speed more than 50 kmph.
Try some of these if are not already, and see if it makes a difference and let us know

I have 1.6L auto, with around 5200KM on the clock.
Around town, average consumption: ~8LHK. On the highway: ~6.5. Stuck in traffic: 10+ (yeah, I live in Beijing).
10 sounds rather high for a 1.4L.

10 lit is definitely too high. There's more chance you'll get under 7 lit then above 9 (beside driving/standing in traffic). Are you sure you are looking at average consumption and not the current consumption? I know it's a silly question, but if that's not the case, take it to the dealers.

Our 2L with only 5000ks travelled gives a best of 7.2 l/100km on a country drive and a worst of 8.2 l/100km in the city (some freeway driving included). From other reports here, these figures may improve over time. Sad to hear you are only getting 10 from a 1.4!

Something is wrong, I find certain petrol gives me better figures but my 1.4 gets around 6.5 l/100km sometimes 7.2. Higher tyre pressure helped and ensured more even wear.

Hello, mine is a 1.4 petrol had for 6 months now done about 5000km on it my fuel consumption is 7.1 mpg at he moment which is about what the dealer said, mainly city driving here in Malta and short open roads. hope this helps. I think 10 is way too high maybe speak to the dealer about it.

I don't think this is a problem.
It depends on the traffic conditions.
What is your trip's computer average speed?
