Title: In Germany, Cologne till 3rd of December
Post by: meehalych on November 21, 2011, 19:34:26
So, I'm at the hotel located nearby Cologne/Bonn airport, where I landed a day before. My first day is almost over leaving a time to type this message and attach some photos.
To begin with, I came to Germany to work in hangar of Nayak, where there are two Boeing planes Classic and NG for C checks, both are of Russian airlines. I was initially supposed to fly via Amsterdam by KLM with one hour connection time as there is no yet any direct flight from Pulkovo to Cologne.  Upon check-in I was told I wouldn't be allowed on board, so I was sent to the ticket office, where the situation was clarified - it was because of weather condition in Amsterdam as no transfer passenger was to fly by KLM, so my flight was re-booked and I flew via Vienna by Austrian airline with only 50 minutes connection flight, nevertheless I was delighted with this as it meant I would be provided with meal (KLM doesn't provide a free meal for economy class). All the way to Vienna I was bothered with a connection flight if I would miss it or not, but I turned out to be in place long time before boarding was announced.
So after an hour I landed at Bonn airport, from where I set off to my hotel located 1.5 km away on foot. In 12 minutes I was in reception desk.
The weather in here is quite warm as compared with Saint-Petersburg's one and I don't need to put on warm clothes, fortunately. Next morning I set off for hangar with an Italian guy, who came to do the same work.
We were to have been picked up at 8 o'clock in the morning, but had to wait for 40 more minutes and made some phone calls
While waiting, I managed to shoot this plane on final

Finally we were take to the airport.
In hangar I found this

B737NG operated by Gazpromavia
(http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m590/meehalych/IMG_0304.jpg)
At the end a car was allocated for us to get to and fro the airport

Here what my hotel room looks out

The second day in a hangar is over, so I'm at the hotel, resting on the bed (I wish I had a girl lying beside  :D).
For the whole working day I was engaged with engine's fan blades, installing them on one engine and removing on the other.
All fan blades removed
(http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m590/meehalych/IMG_0310.jpg)

The blades take up 4 shelfs, 38 pieces in total
(http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m590/meehalych/IMG_0313.jpg)

That is how the world looks like when you're sitting in the inlet cowl.

We got a smaller car at last, that is more comfortable to drive
(http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m590/meehalych/IMG_0315.jpg)

After returning to the hotel and taking a shower and meal we set off for the airport to call at the shop placed there. In the course of a stroll I found this bike standing on a pedestrian road without any lock features, which would be madness if it happened in Russia.

Well, I suppose Nayak doesn't have enough man-power, so they are eager to get help whatever way is possible. There are lot of people in a hangar from different parts of Europe, so English can be heard in every corner of that building. Me myself share the car with a guy from Italy, who arrived at the same day with me and is going back on 2nd of December.

It is fun travelling around with your work..  :goodjob:

I used to do relief work all over Tasmania when I worked in two different banks between 1979 and 1994.

When I was first with Radio Rentals I got to help a store in Western Australia more than 3000kms away and another in Melbourne and had several trips to Sydney for Training and meetings and stuff..  :happydance:

Have come back home today.
A little bit exhausted.
Two weeks turned out quite busy, except for two last days.
I enjoy flying

Good pics and a good read Mischa.
Lucky they didn't start the engine while you were sitting in the cowling.

And you're lucky not  to have had to fly KLM, unless they have improved immensely since we flew to London with them in 2000.

NEVER again!!

Thank you.
I have recovered from my yesterday two flights, so can type some more about the trip.
Frankly speaking I though I wouldn't catch my connection flight from Amsterdam to Saint-Petersburg as our flight from Cologne arrived with delay, thus I had only 35 minutes to get to the terminal from the airplane, pass through passport control and security control at gate. Fortunately I was there just on time and I was lucky to have my bag loaded in the cargo hold  :happydance: along with other 6 bags of the transfer passengers, the baggage of others was detained at the airport due to fire.

Despite my misgivings I was provided with some snacks on both KLM flights.

Here is KLM B737-700 AMS-LED
(http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m590/meehalych/IMG_0523.jpg)

Well it would have been the hardest work to suck me into the engine.  Don't worry about that as all fan blades were removed for cleaning.

Well, it's time posted some photos from Cologne city itself.
This one was taken in front of main entrance to Cologne Dom. The guy beckoned us to take the photo, but we politely refused and passed by (I didn't want to waste my money)
