Title: Will sitting for three weeks unused be a problem for Viv?
Post by: kittikat on November 22, 2011, 11:37:59
We are leaving for a three week holiday on thursday (:happydance: :happydance:), and I have a question.  Should I get my son to start Viv during our absence, or will she be fine not having a run for the time we are away.  I hadn't really thought about it, but someone at work said I should get the car started at least once while we are away.

Opinion anyone?

If your battery is in good condition & not too old then three weeks without a start should be fine.

Should be okay, but if it were me, I would tell someone to start it every 7 days.

I was recently away for 3 1/2 weeks and when I got back home my i30 fired up first hit of the key.... :D

So, I wouldn't be too concerned unless your battery isn't the best.....

Pull the memory fuse and forget about it.

It's a diesel. They're 'ard as nails.

Where will she be while you are away?

If undercover then there should not be a problem.
But if outside and the weather turns then again it should bo OK but may be worth having her fired up and a few mile trip just to keep her joints supple..........

3 weeks, No,  3 months, might dissconnect battery,  3 yrs, might start it every month and take it for a drive long enough to get everything up to temp.

i have started cars i have left sitting for up to 6 yrs! and drove them for yrs after with no ill effects.  even a 250CC, 19,000 RPM redline Honda CBR was fine after sitting for 2 yrs after my accident long ago.

Thanks guys.   :goodjob2:  She will be snug in the garage, so no problems with the weather.  :D

We fly out this afternoon,  :happydance: , so I won't be around for a while.   :blubber:  Try not to miss me too much.  :D
