Title: 6 speakers in an SLX?
Post by: mjt57 on December 05, 2011, 04:32:04
According to the brochure my i30 SLX is supposed to have 6 speakers. Yet, I can only see 4 of them, one in each door.

Where are the extra 2 speakers hiding?

I am not a great help - pretty ignorant about this car stuff. I have an SLX and the brochure says "six speakers (including two tweeters)". I am guessing these are the two different-looking speakers you cannot find.

I don't know what tweeters in the i30 look like but I found this discussion with (dodgy) pictures on wiki - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tweeter (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tweeter)

The tweeters are also in the front doors adjacent to where the wing mirrors are mounted. You can identify them by the hundreds of sound holes (a technical term) in a triangular shape. Tweeters reproduce the higher frequency sounds in music. Google "tweeter" and you will find a much better explanation than my one.

Yeah, Hyundai cheated by counting the tweeters in their '6 speakers' where in actual fact they meant 2 component speakers and 2 single cone speakers. As Paolo5 stated, they are located in the triangular trim next to the front passenger and driver side window.

Thanks guys. Found them. Although I can't hear if anything's coming out of them, though. No big deal...

Tad harsh on Hyundai I dare say?
All manufacturer's would class tweets as speakers, in all fairness, they are a speaker. :)  Just a speaker designed to reproduce the higher frequency of the song, same way a sub woofer would be classed as a speaker, however reproduces the lower frequencies :)
