Title: Removing the front dash
Post by: stochastic on January 24, 2012, 20:46:10
Has anyone gone through the work of removing and re-installing the front dash?  I'm wondering what pockets are behind there and if the process is a day-long or coffe-break job.

By front dash do you just mean the fascia that houses the radio/heater/lower cubby hole? If so, then it has been done (did mine twice)

I actually am referring to the entire front interior section that is in front of the driver and front passenger (glove box housing, above the steering column, the area you describe that surrounds the stereo, etc...).  Essentially the big piece of plastic directly below the windshield.

If that's the "front" dash, I want to know where the "rear" dash is.

Sorry.

That's a good diagram UM.

That's a good diagram UM.

It took a while to find in the Hyundai service manual. There call it a "crash pad", not a dashboard.

Yeah, that helps, but I'd love to hear if anyone has actually undergone this process, found the screws/clips/tricks that one needs to do it safely without ruining anything.  I also don't see any airbags in that pic.

Yes, surferdude the term front dash is a redundant one, but I didn't invent it.  I guess in sedans there is a rear dash just below the rear window.   :p

I assume you are trying to fix a rattle or something? How long is your tea break? To do it properly and without damaging anything I'd set aside several hours, (not saying it takes that long, ive never done it) just so your not rushing.

I love that advert for SuperCheap where the guy dismantles everything looking for a rattle and finally finds some loose bolts in the ashtray which he hadn't taken out of its slide until everything else is on the garage floor. :happydance: :-[

Did you use any special tool? A screw-driver probably?

A couple of choice words might help also?

Please get out you piece of plastic, etc (=

I like the idea of bits being left over, happens to me a lot. I think of it as a weight reducing scheme

I thought it was the way every part had to be removed and installed, at least one can't help carrying out the tasks without spitting out such the words in Russia
