Hi all, 6 of us going to holiday in Florida in June.
We know it will be hot, but Mrs Ffoxy hasnt booked a hire car.
So we can get a deal on arrival at the hotel as we have booked bus transport from the Airport already.
I'll be looking on 'tinterweb for deals but wondered if any of you guys have some ball park cost figures for hiring a 4x4 for a week there at that time of the year?
Cheap or not cheap?
Seems there are few footpaths & due to daytime heat long walks are not recomended.

Cheers UM. Looks like around £200 for a week hire of a 7 seater minibus...
I suspect there will be good local deals available though once there.

MMMMmmm I can't offer any advice either, always gone fly/drive.... if you've not been before remember that if you have the slightest bum, knock or scratch the hire company WILL want a police number. Unless things have changed dramatically that is.
Have a great time and yes your correct it will be stifflingly HOT HOT HOT.... you know what it's like when you open the oven door to check the food and that gush of red hot air takes you're breath away??? well that's what it's like when you have a nice drive with the air con on and you open the car door WWWWWwwwwwwwwwwwwwwhhhhhhhhoooooooooooooaaaaaaaaa

Have you thought about booking a car either direct with the Hotel or with a car hire firm rather than via the tour operator prior to leaving?
Or email Hotel and ask if they can suggest reliable car hire firms and then contact them direct.

Hi Foxy, i've been to FL stayed at Ormond Beach near Daytona Beach & Orlando it's a very flat small state but will be warm. not much advice on car hire as i was driving my GF's SUV. but up in South Carolina @ Myrtle Beach i found Whatsamacallit motors was only $19 per day for a Crown Victoria V8 power everything that $19 included insurance, one rule don't leave country ( like drive to Mexico or Canada. i was staying at a fishing village called Callabash in North Carolina right on South Carolina boarder. i liked Louisiana & Carolina's & Tennissee & Texas more than Florida but you will be warm and tax's are very low, lot of old people retire there. watch out for Aligators.

Foxy, June i just saw June, that will be hot and worst of all Humid . i was there in january so still there winter was nice weather.

I can't imagine why or where a 4x4 would be needed in Florida at any time of year, but vehicle rentals in that state are incredibly cheap.

Only cos I want one Lyn lol! Mini-bus doesnt really hit the spot for me... I just want an "on-road" 4x4 experience over there :-)

Florida is swampland reclaimed i think? it's a very small state, BUT there is a lot of out of the way little places, i got to see a lot of that state & you can need a 4X4, also good to be high & a lot of metal around you, when you see what the good ol boys down there drive. but the people i meet even total strangers were very very friendly more so than country people here. friendly people all over the south, from North Carolina to Texas.
Foxy if you have time drive to Louisiana it did not seem that far to me you cross the state of missisippi to get there but only seemed like one hour to do that & each state you come to has a welcome center that gives out information maps & so on plus free coffee free maps to all travelers ( great idea too australia don't have this ) watch were you eat & what you eat or you will go home Foxy Delux LOL

Good for you Foxy, hey i was in a Motel that was on Ormond Beach & people were driving cars along the beach so sand must be hard packed. the service in resturants is great too & if you go into a Waffle House for breakfast & order eggs, they will ask exactly how you want them cooked, they must have about 20 or 30 ways of cooking an egg LOL

Oh yeah, that reminds me, if your ordering your eggs, DO NOT ORDER easy over, if you do you'll be served a plate full of snotty raw egg, we have our eggs MEDIUM over, that is, with a lovely dippy yolk and the whites fully cooked. The first breakfast I had in Florida ( a long tme ago) the air con had gone on the blink and the girl was PAINTING the butter onto the4 toast ha HAhahahahahaaaha haaa

LOL , they have improved at making cappachino now but first time i was over there i asked for cappachino coffee the guy said What flaviour? he told me about ten different flavours but non was coffee flavour LOL what he gave me was nothing like what i wanted more like a soft serve icecream with flavour , Yuk too sweet for me.
but they have some top resturants & seafood in NC when i was there was cheap lot of oysters there too.

I did not like to ask for egg benidict ( love that ) as i'm not sure what vinigar is over there, i was out in the Ozark mountains a friend had a farm there with a bike shop in the hills out of a little town called Cave City, this big guy must have been close to seven foot tall, built like a brick out house, road up on a harley was an older model that was useing a carb i was farmiliar at working on, my friends 23 year old son said to me he is a Red Kneck & big, so don't make him mad LOL. he told me he ran out of gas the past weekend so pushed the bike to his friends farm, friend had no Gas but had some Vinigar, so they put vinigar in the tank :rofl: & he road it to a gas station to fill it up, said it was runing bad ever since, we could not stop laughing when he said he ran it on vinigar. not sure if its what i use to make egg benidict? LOL
interesting that town was in a dry county, so the can't sell Grog. i went to Jack Daniels where the wisky is made ( too sweet for me ) & that was also in a dry county they just got permission to sell but you can't drink it there. they still have bootlegers in some places

I can see what you mean, but before i went over first time i was told not to ask for white coffee as they don't know what it means.
I guess things we regard as un important might come across in a different way to others.
The term Yankee should not be used in the south, also i could not call anyone mate or they might have thought i was gay . thats what my GF said. LOL
I would like to go to Boniville & Grand Canyon, when i go over next i'll buy a car & drive across its easy. also forgot, will buy a Classic Mustang drive along route 66.
maybe bring it back depends on how much i like it.

asa has answered question, just thought i'd say, in most cases they just give you one of those one serve sealed milk containers like you see in some motels here.
