G'day all!
I found the beast waiting in the garage when I got home from work today.
Talk about a bloody surprise...lol
Mum and Dad have been holding it off for my b'day (its tomorrow)
I had no idea honestly. I was told it would be ready middle of next week sometime. But apparently the truck delivered it to the yard on Tuesday. They managed to keep it a secret and give me an awesome surprise! I've got pics of it on the truck too if anyone is interested.

Oh yeah..
I've seen that one happen to someone. Person had their indicator on to turn left, the fella pulled out but the car went straight ahead.
Dont worry Dazz, I consider myself to be a cautious driver. Was taught well and am very aware of the other people on the road.
Thanks for the concern.
:P

That's quite possibly the nicest looking i30 I've ever seen on your driveway
-
How long until you can remove the P
Like the black door stoppers on the white.
All I got for my birthday was a BILL.
I was treated by the family to a meal BUT guess who ended up paying?
-
Nice one Cam
-
Thanks everyone
-
Happy birthday camerooney ;)
-
Thanks Hemmi!!
hehe
Its 6:55am in NSW
Getting ready for a trip with the family to see some relos.
It will be the cars first run.
-
Very nice Cam. Love your choice of colour. Love your choice of model. Love your choice of engine type. Oh, and I love your choice of transmission too. Hey wait a minute, that's my car!! Give it back.
-
Best wishes for your first trip and your Birthday (forgot in my previous posting)
Let us know your experience of your first drive etc etc.
What restrictions are imposed whilst on "P's" on OZ?
In UK there are no restrictions, except for 1 or 2 i.e. you can not supervise a provisional driver for 2 years and must be over 21 - can not tow certain trailers, once you've passed your test.
Can go straight on motorway and do max speed limit, 70 MPH (112 kph).

great car dude :) happy birthday, i wish you a lot of miles without any incidents or accidents
-
So Cam, I see you have the rare and elusive 'P'i30 model.. nicely colour coordinated 'P' plates!
Hope your prezzy keeps a smile on your face all day!
Regarding the 'idiots' out there, front wheel angle is usually a better 'indicator' that a human-controlled flashing light...
PC.

Congrats Cam, I've been following your wait for a while. You really earned your i30 in my book!
Just outta curiosity, what was the ballpark figure of the spoiler? I reckon that looks great!

Thanks for the wishes everyone.
Well I did a trip of roughly 175kms.
Had 3 passengers with luggage and it pulled and pulled and pulled and....well just kept going. No hill is too steep for the i30!
:P

In NSW (it differs for nearly every other state i.e Victoria, West Aust, NT, SA, QLD etc) we have to be on two sets of 'Provisional' driver licenses.
The first are Red p's. On reds you cant go over 90km/h (55 miles per hour roughly I think?) and are on them for 1 year.
- Observe towing restrictions (you are only allowed to tow light trailers of up to 250 kilograms unloaded weight),
- Not accumulate more than three demerit points.
- Be restricted to driving an automatic transmission car or clutchless manual (depending on the vehicle in which the Driving Test is undertaken).
- Not supervise a learner driver.
- Not upgrade the licence to a higher class.
- If aged under 25, you may only carry one passenger under the age of 21 between 11pm and 5am.
Green p's can do the 100km/hour speed limit and are basically limited to all of the above also (but need to be on them for 2 years + dont have passenger restrictions)

Thanks Grug!
Its certainly been a long wait, but as everyone else has said, it is worth every minute/day/month

The spoiler cost roughly $470 I think...that includes GST + painting.

The P system should be considered for the UK.
It would stop the "boy racers" and hopefully reduce accidents as statistics indicate most are by young inexperienced drivers etc etc.
-
Over the last few years I think it has reduced the amount of fatalities.
But sadly, there are still too many accidents involving younger drivers.
I think its a good idea learners have to do 120 hours of driving now. This is a new law.
The old system was you needed 50 hours of signed driving with 6 months experience until you could get the Red P's. This was the system I was on when I got my reds. Keep in mind this is only NSW I'm talking about, other states are different

When I was in school, there were too many people my age forging their hours just to meet the bare minimum.
While in fact, they had only done 40 hours or less driving and had essentially no experience.
I did 85 hours signed driving and many many more hours unsigned.
I also had a lot of experiences...
Ladder fell out from the back of a truck, tyre came off a trailer in front, kangaroo's jumping out + a wombat.
I wasn't involved in any accidents or anything, but these sort of events certainly do make you a more alert/aware driver!

Cam
Was that before or after you "broke a mirror"
-
Lol you could say I was unlucky.
But fortunately nothing happened to my little laser and the objects bounced off to the side of the road. Not into me!
-
kangaroo's jumping out + a wombat.
Not a problem in UK.
But we do get lamp posts and stone walls that jump into the road!
-
I think I'd rather a lamp post jump out rather than a kangaroo
-
Here's some reasons cam says that
They are fast...

Sometimes we dont...

great pictures camerooney :) wish I was there ;)
-
Thanks Hemmi.
It hasnt been all that warm here down South, well to what we usually get.
Temps have been averaging the low 20's I think.
Then again, by your standards low 20's is probably quite hot compared to what you get!
lol
-
We get low 20s Farenheit :P

Just about to go out actually.

Today it's 6c outside - wet, windy, and miserable.
Bring on the snow.

Very nice cam!
One thing to be wary of when detailing your car (or having it detailed...)
Make 100% sure you don't get ANY polish or wax on the plastics (especially the side skirts). I have an '01 Elantra and I made the mistake of thinking it wouldn't do any damage... trust me, the damage is permanent, almost no matter what you do. You will end up with either faded or patchy exterior plastics.
I actually tape off the plastics (around windows, strips along roof, front grill, side mirrors and front chrome thingo) before polishing or am EXTREMELY careful not to get any polish or wax on them. If you use tape, make sure it is a low tack tape or apply it to clothing a few times before putting it on the car.
-
Thanks Tylenol.
I try and avoid polishing the plastic. I havent gone as far as taping the areas, but I'm generally pretty careful.
Thanks for the advice
:)
-
No problem... I just hate looking at the plastics on my Elantra these days :(
Its probably the same plastic they use for the side strips on the i30 - are they a textured plastic or smooth one? If smooth stains would be easier to remove. If you stain the textured plastics you're up a creek!
-
If you need to rejuvenate your tired plastics I would recommend AutoGlym bumper restorer, it is pretty horrible stuff to put on, but it takes all that grey away pretty quickly and does not wash off at the first sign of rain.
In the UK the bottle has a green label, I have been using it for years even when body-kits were not colour keyed to the vehicle, so you had lots of black plastic to care for.
A friend of mine had a Ford Ka, the basic model with acres of textured black plastic as bumpers which went grey very quickly and made the car look much older than it was, I had a go at it with this stuff and the difference was night and day.
Cheers
Brian
