I am on cable and pay £48 per month for a bundle which includes :-
Telephone line rental
Telephone unlimited domestic calls,
Cable TV basic channels,
cable V Box (HD)
20 Mb broadband (Unlimited)

My monthly bill does not show individual prices for each service - my best guess is that the broadband costs about £20 per month

AlanHo
thank you.
I see your upload speed is significantly lower as compared with download one
Digital telephone line (295 rub per month = 10 USD with unlimited domestic calls) and IP TV (test mode - free of charge for the time being) is available for additional money in my case

Still on ccpper cables so I am reasonably happy with the speed, for now, I don't do mega downloads these days :-)...

Cost me 20 something a month but that includes my land line and free calls and free international calls anytime...

ALAN.... I am surprised at your speed and you say your on cable.   If that's all the gain you got from copper wire to light spped cable I will not be paying a tenner a month extra for that.......  :-( :-(  :-(

I moved house a year ago and was aware that Virgin were in the process of doubling broadband speeds for no extra cost. Our area is due to benefit this July - when I should get 40 Mbs download and 5 Mbs upload speeds for my 20 quid. I am happy with that because it will be far faster than I really need and cable has proved to be rock solid reliable with OK customer support provided you are a linguist. About 6 months ago I had problems with my modem and phoned them - I got an Indian call centre and could barely understand the young lady. I politely and diplomatically told her that I was having difficulty in understanding what she was saying and asked her to transfer me to a UK resource - which she understood - and was happy to do. I then found myself talking to a man in Scotland with such a strong Scottish accent that I was in even more difficulty - so I rang off and started all over again. This time I got someone I could understand and they took over my computer - made some changes to the modem settings - and left me a happy bunny

A friend in Worcester on TalkTalk is having a torrid time - his broadband rarely downloads at more than 2 Mbs and Taltalk customer support is almost non-existent. He is in the process of transferring to BT because his next door neighbour gets excellent BT broadband.

You are obviously better served by TalkTalk up where you are.

around 7 is my usual download so not too bothered.

Given my distance from the exchange I'm getting what BT say I should get.  Sometimes it can be over 8

Yes Alan I have been with TALKTALK right for the off and also the user forum as well, most folks didn't and still don't know about the users forum and loose the will to live and move on...   The forum is attended by a few of the talktalk techie guys who can sort ya out in minutes, either by changing your profile and other methods.  I have only had a problem in the first year, due to my own lack of initiative, however since being a member of the users forum I have never once had a probbie and always get the best speeds I can get....

I am happy your goijng to get better speeds Alan, I  shall watch with interest for my area to be cabled up and decide whether or not I want o join in, like you I don't really need superfast broadband these days.

This is probably a daft Idea, but, I wonder if ypu'd get a faster speed from a WIFI dongle.  If you need high speed internet that is ???

asa - did you mean Wifi or 3G. I have a wifi dongle on a netbook to connect to my home network - but it is only as fast as the connection in the house.

If you meant 3G instead of connecting through the telephone line - I have got three 3G dongles - Voda, O2 and Three so that I can increase my chances of accessing the internet as we travel the country. Despite the claims made by the networks about dongle speeds - unless you are within a mile or two of the mast - speeds are pathetic. At home - in the middle of Solihull, I reckon 1.5 Mbs is good but often find myself struggling with the old dial-up speeds with regular drop-outs. All the networks are as bad as one another for making marketing promises they know full well they can't keep.

BT say upto 20 mb but I've just tested my line and they say upto average 6mb max 8.5 mb

Set up - telephone line into the house and connected to Home Hub V2.
I can then have either - WIFI  or Powerlines ethernet (use home electric wires to connect from hub at front door to PC at rear.

I prefer the powerlines as I get constant speed whereas the WIFI was subject to fluctuation in speed due to distance and brick walls.

When I had works laptop I had a Voda 3G dongle and this was useless as you could go and make a cup of tea and you would still be connecting on return -fill kettle, boil, brew, pour...

We're still back in the Stone Age as far as internet speeds are concerned in Australia.

Cost's me $59.50 a month for 200GB of downloads, uploads aren't counted.

Yep. That's all we've got.
Can pay more to boost it but there's not much point. Most of the time it's adequate.
NBN will fix it I guess but I'm suspicious of what it's likely to cost.

You wait till our NBN is up & running, we'll have great internet speeds, but will probably trigger the next GFC paying fpr it.

I wonder if Germany would be interested in bailing us out.  :whistler:
