is there a way to reset the radio in my motor vehicle as for some reason the radio no longer fancies allowing me to listen to my music via usb stick, when it did before. this is the 2nd stick it doesnt fancy wen all was fine for months. i have tried re-loading and formatting the stick too in both fat32 or ntsc blah blah's. zzzz boring tech rubbish.
HELP MEEEEE!!!

Only a guess but remove the radio fuse for 30 minutes.
-
They say not to start the car with the USB stick in but don't know of anyone who has had one damaged by doing this...
Are both the sticks the same brand? So your PC still acknowledges the Stick? A bit of a mystery
I guess Lester's suggestion is worth a try but if it works with another USB stick then I doubt it is the Stereo :disapp:
Hope we can help you sort it :winker:
-
Our car lives with USB in all the time, no probs yet. Test the stick in a pc, I assume it works as you've formatted it ok. Load with sample music & get ity to play through the pc. Is the stick a reputable brand, or a cheap "flashed memory" stick. When it stopped working, had you recently added any files at all
-
got 2 sticks, one is 8mb the other is 32. both still work in computers for any file types, yet wont be read in the car. my phone charges through the usb and can also sync for music play and that still works to play music. its like the stereo all of a sudden has double standards
-
It's a real mystery :undecided:
-
Not sure if this would create more problems than you already have, but how about removing the fuse for the radio overnight. Maybe a power down then power up may reset a stored value somewhere. Failing that, off to the service department.
-
would rather not deal with service dept if i can help it. under warranty tho so maybe...
-
as an alternative for the meen time can i:
1. put music on a dvd cos i have lots
2. will the disc player read from dvd or would it have to be cd?
-
Usually, only systems with a screen to play video can read DVD's. What's wrong with the service dept, are they that bad
-
butt heads through and through
-
Yike, that's unfortunate, the service department are the ones to conduct servicing & major repairs in the future. Hope you haven't burnt too many bridges. :(
-
never burn the bridges, ever, but i dont like dealing with them if there's a way around it. when things have to go that way tho then thats it. i prefer to run it past the veritable banquet of knowledge found in these here pages often
-
Good to hear !,,,,,, butt heads
-
they have a butt head process. u must drive urself insane talking to butt heads to make sure you are worthy of then talking to the butt head leader, who in turn cannot speak to u in terms te layperson can understand. why are you calling normal parts of a car doohickies and thigamybobs when im coming to you for repair questions?! if i knew what they were I@D FIX IT MY F***ING SELF!!!
-
Right, I see now. :whistler:

scuze me, rant over. but they really get my goat.(https://encrypted-tbn1.google.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQiNCCFl4dRBM2YxdgrBb8NalbJypdJq9c2sZPQowEdfe8gc_J35w)

How many mp3's are you putting onto your memory stick? I know that my old mp3 player would only recognize about a hundred songs in any one folder before refusing to work so if you have more than that on it try putting them into separate folder of say 80 songs each and try again. Having said that I have about 800 in one folder and it works fine in my car.
-
i tend to put them in individual album folders, nothing has changed since i first started using the car and stick/s
-
did you ever have any luck, i just bought a usb stick and the car wont read it, but all my other ones are working
-
What size, brand & format.
-
its a HP 8gig Fat32
this is it http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Technology/Data-Storage/USB-Flash-Drives/8GB-USB/HP8GBHOOK (http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Technology/Data-Storage/USB-Flash-Drives/8GB-USB/HP8GBHOOK)

That should work fine, is there any preinstalled security file software on it. It may need to be removed. Our music is simply divided into His/Hers folders on 16 gb & no worries. Toshiba from H Norman.
-
just formatted the drive and reinstalled all the music, will try again when i go out later
-
no luck, plays in my other cars, but just not the I30
-
R U using a cable or in direct. The metal on the usb surrounding the pins is usually pretty flimsy. Try GENTLY pressing in the middle of the silver bit if it feels loose at all in the car connector, not too much or it won't go in at all.
-
straight in, its weird though cause all my old usb sticks still work in the i30, just not this one?
might try using a extension cable, wonder if its metal case on the usb stick is interfearing with it?
-
:Dunno: :(
-
fraid i gave up on this one and bought an 8gb ipod 4th gen to go with the apple cable thats supplied with the car. no probs with that, leave it plugged in and just cover it when parked
-
Yikes  wouldn't another USB be cheaper. :faint:
-
probably but its easier to get the itunes to sync up and put what you want in their own playlist etc
-
yeah i might wait till work gives me a iphone
ive got a older usb stick that works, dont really want itunes on my computer untill i cant avoid it
-
i was the same, not a fan of apple at all, but i couldnt be arsed faffing around with this stick and that one etc. so bit the bullet. it was a used ipod so the cost was minimal. now i use the stick for boosting the ram on my notebook instead, so just a slight change of direction and a little upgrade. sweet!

Same issues here as well. I have been using the same usb stick (Imation 16gb usb2.0) for 3 months then one morning...poof it comes up with an error saying "Media Error" I'm guessing its a firmware issue because I can only use one out of 4 flash usb sticks i currently own and the one that works is my 6 year old, 2gb usb, cheap brand, flash usb stick.
I might head into a service department this weekend or the next to sort this out. I'll keep you posted
-
cheers dude, much appreciated. i never got any luck so switched to ipod for the natural doacking lead that came with the car. no probs since, but its annoyed me not knowing

Well I took the car to the dealership last weekend and after an hour wait they came back to me with a response: "mate we had tried re-booting it back to default settings. we had tried several other usb, and I think that your unit needs to be replaced. It will be a four month wait"
After listening to his findings I told him that I had just goggled on how we can solve my problems.
As I had read on a forum apparently all music files must be within a folder named 'MUSIC' (this folder name is case sensitive and must appear in all capital letters) Once the MUSIC folder ha been created, you can store as many songs as you want.
I had tried and tested this on multiple flash usb storage sizes and they work flawlessly. This solution may be nothing new to everyone so I apologize in repeating it again :D
-
:brilliant: u my good man are awesome. how is it that some dopey dealership wants to replace the whole thing, which would be warranty supplied in my case, and dont know this little gem of information. Jesus H Christ!!!
Nice one dude, Kudos to you in bundles :thanx:
-
Why isn't that information in the handbook.
-
u would think it would be a standard thing. i wonder if i can claim back the outlay of £50 on an ipod... :blubber:
