Hi people, newby i30 owner from Holland here.
Bought a 2009 i30 1.4 dynamic in vivid blue last december, mainly because we have a little baby girl now.
I was a Peugeot driver for many years (309 gti's and 306 cabriolet) but wanted to try something different and its good value for money.
The car has pleased us till now, bought privacy shades for it and some other small stuff and plan to
replace the 15 inch wheels by nice 16 or 17 inch alloys this summer.
I really like the vivid blue, reminds me of my 309 gti16's wich were almost the same color (bleu miami).
Greets from Holland,
Bas

If you fit 17" rims make sure that they are 56P offset and you will need to fit spacers on the steering rack to prevent the tyre rubbing on full lock

16" are probably the the best compromise (in my opinion) as they will not give you as harsh a ride as the 17", you wont have to worry with spacers and replacement tyres will be cheaper too .. :goodjob:

I agree with Dazzler - my car has 17" wheels and the ride is much too hard and noisy - some go-carts are better sprung.
-
Can someone explain, I thought the larger the diameter the less the wheel sinks into rutts and potholes, so wouldn't the ride be smoother
-
The low profile tyres that accompany the larger diameter rim make the ride firmer.
-
So what's the big advantage, considering the price of the tyres
-
Appearance and roadholding primarily.
I was going to put larger wheels/tyres on my car when I first bought it but I'm glad now I didn't.
They look nice etc, but I do a lot of metro/city driving and it's too easy to catch bigger rims on kerbs when parking, plus they're harsher and noisier, so I'm quite happy with the standard rims and higher profile tyres.

Welcome Bas :D
My old Seat Ibiza Coupe had 17" wheels and the road noise from them was terrible and as Alan says I've been on more comfortable roller coaster rides - its one of the main reason I sold it and bought my i30. However that is driving on the UK's pot hole riddled roads. You may well have better quality roads in Holland.

Ok, some (not too sharp) pictures:)

That's my idea too, 17 or 18 looks way better but has to be comfy as well. Its not a racer:)
