Hi all,
Just returned from a short trip 1061 ks to gently run in our new i30. As we were driving past (going) we were taking note of the price of diesel for the return trip and as lot more of us are travelling interstate these days I thought it may be good idea to note here the best places to purchase fuel on our travels and if you are interstate be able to plan better fuel stops especially on the open road.
I'll start with:
Matilda in Warwick Qld - Situated on the left - north side of town on the Warwick to Toowoomba Rd $1.399/litre for diesel.
Rustbucket
-
$1.37 with my 4c off docket... Western Vic.
petrol (cos i still got my petrol car) is $1.31 with my 4c off.
-
Finally come down below $1.50 here in Bendigo.......just
-
Hey guys are those prices right across town or specific service stations?
Rbucket
-
mine were a shell price. i shop at coles
-
Still too dear here in Tas.. Going rate in Devonport for Diesel is $1.549 at both Shell (Coles) and Caltex (Woolworths) outlets on Formby road (just over $1.50 with 4c shopper docket)
Unleaded is $1.479 at both outlets ( less a further 4c if have a docket)
Most other local outlets are about the same give or take a cent or two...
Would expect isolated areas (eg West and East coast of Tas) to be perhaps 5c per litre dearer.
Hobart and Launceston are usually similar to Devonport unless a price war on.
Edit: Found this site for Tassie

Member Mick from Geelong gave this hand info on another thread (thanks Mick)
"I use this http://www.exploroz.com/OntheRoad/FuelPrices/ as well as the RACV http://www.racv.com.au/wps/wcm/connect/Internet/Primary/my+car/advice+&+information/fuel/petrol+prices/?CACHE=NONE I guess the motoring associations will have an equivalent site for each state."
-
I have had a look at a couple of different fuel watch sites, and guess what.
The give the cheapest prices for all capital cities except Canberra! For christ sake, we are only the nations capital
Diesel still seems to be selling for 150.9 here. Unleaded is down to 126.9
-
That's a big difference Eyma.. The "pollies" must all have Petrol powered cars at home...
-
Bugger the pollies
They probabley dont pay for thier fuel anyway. The tax payer does.
-
no doubt.
diesel should drop below fuel... i'd be happy with $1 p/litre...
-
no doubt.
diesel should drop below fuel... i'd be happy with $1 p/litre... :D :D
-
Filled up yesterday, with the oily type of fuel for $1:42.9 per litre . BP Placid Arc roadhouse W.A
Good price i thought
-
Yep, That sounds like a good price Mullet
-
hey guys.
1.37 per litre in busso wa at the 24hr.
cheers
ash
-
eh i looked at prices today... diesel is $1.509 and petrol is $1.379 (without 4c off)
-
when i look for diesel/petrol prices, i use http://www.mynrma.com.au/cps/rde/xchg/mynrma/hs.xsl/petrol_watch_search.htm but i think that its more for the sydney based people...not sure...
i usually only get about 145.9 though, might be helpful for the people living closer to the cheap bowsers?

Service center on the highway, Yass NSW.
Can someone explain why diesel is still so bloody expensive?
-
major trucking route... all the truckers are getting discounts on their fuel, they are effectively paying the same as normal unleaded... the rest of us non-truckers using diesel are hit with the extra
-
It's the 'extra what?' I don't understand.
I asked the drone behind the counter why diesel was so expensive, the excuse this week "Because it is trucked in, that uses fuel, so it costs more!"
My reply "Oh, so ULP magically appears then? So all other fuel isn't transported by trucks to here?"
No response.
At least I got a chuckle from the others waiting in the line.
-
Thumper is "cruisin' for a bruisin" methinks
-
Just been down to the shell at Belconen. ULP..$122.9 before discount. Diesel..$150.9 ????
Diesel has gradually dropped over last month or two, but seems to have stalled at the $150 mark. ULP keeps dropping. NOT FAIR
-
Petrol is around $1.32 in Nowra
Diesel is still $1.50 though
-
cheapest in darwin is at the United Station
Petrol E10% 133.7
Diesel 156.7
I always get my diesel from BP(157.9)..coz my gf works there and she get 6c discount...so that leaves me with 151.9...hmmm..still wish it was lower...why diesel why???
:
-
been around $1.49.9 the last week diesel without 4cent off docket...
-
Down to $1.45 at the Mobil on the Princes Highway in Bomaderry.
Hope it gets cheaper
-
$1.47.9 atm in western vic horsham... thats without the 4cent off docket.
-
Where I am Petrol is now $1.099 - but it only went up two cents to $1.119 on Thursday which is expensive day, so I'm hoping as markets deteriorate globally over the next two weeks or so maybe we'll see it under $1.00!!! wouldn't that make you feel like you've gone back in time to the 90's aye?
-
$1.479 in Bendigo, and $1.429 in Melbourne today
-
I would be content to pay $1.20.9 for diesel if/when it comes down... c'mon... i dont want to see petrol go under a $1 and diesel still be at $1.50.9...
-
Just filled the tank @ $1.449 (Diesel)
This was in Canberra.
-
Local Shell and Caltex selling ULP for 109.9 and Diesel for 144.9 before discouts today.
-
In UK we had a double whammy.
The government yesterday announced:
(i) reduction in VAT (tax) from 17.5% to 15 % thereby reducing the price of petrol/diesel by 2.5%.
But then they announced that fuel duty would be increasing (not sure but probably 2.5%)
So end result = no change in the pump price.
-
99.9 cents/litre unleaded at Shell in Laverton (VIC)...that's with the Coles fuel discount.
-
Ditto on the cheap petrol...
On the way back form Forster today petrol at Buladellah was 98c for E10 and 102 Unleaded, Diesel was 149c.
I have 2500KM's up on my car know and just passed 770KM's on 3/4 of a tank, trying to decide to risk a trip to sydney and back tomorow night without filling up!!!! (I dont keep to the under 2000rpm trick in fifth gear so i am not sure on the economy)
Anyone seen any cheap diesel between turramurra and North Sydney?
-
Hi all,
Following advice from the forum I went looking for Caltex diesel in the area and found that Woolworths and Caltex share outlets in OZ. Now I don't know that the diesel supplied at these outlets is Vortex but with a voucher(4 cents off ) a litre cost 1.26. The cheapest I have seen it in Brisbane.
Rustbucket.
-
Is that the same Woolworths that has just gone bust in the UK ?
-

I was just about to post this message and the board stopped me by saying the same message had just been posted.
Very intelligent forum
-
I think Woolworths in Australia might be a separate entity and are listed on the Australian Stock Exchange. Seem to be doing OK. They offer discounts for fuel for purchases at their supermarkets through their outlets linked with Caltex.

Rustbucket The Caltex Vortex Premium Diesel outlets all have that in large writing on the pump if you don't see it writen its not the Vortex Diesel, the two vortex outlets i have been to were not woolworths outlets it is normaly more pricy i do not notice much difference economy wise but the motor does respond to the throtle slightly better. i think the main betifet will be keeping injectors clean also might lubricate the fuel pump but don't quote me on the fuel pump, i'm guessing on that. but i know and have seen how caltex Vortex unlead keeps injection and chamber clean.
-
Price here in BP went down a bit
Its 149.9 for diesel
122.9 for Unleaded
-
95.9c here for e10/or normal unleaded the same after docket.
I still can't believe my eyes when the $$$ go up SLOWER than the L.
-
Saw it for $1.37 on the Mobil again in Bomaderry.
I'm up in Wollongong at the moment and I think the diesel is around $1.40 mark too.
-
bendigo has finally fallen under $1.40......................by a bees whatsit!
-
Diesel $1.319 (With 8c a lt off) in Canberra yesterday. (4c off with voucher, bought two poweraide drinks in store, 2 for $5 special, that netted me an additional 4c a lt off fuel)
-
can I have the spare Powerade?
-
Sure, want to drive down and pick it up?
-
United Fuel
ULP(E10) 118.7
Diesel 149.7
Fuel in Darwin is too expensive, recently in the papers they had a Road train driver in it saying how brought his own fuel stored in his train from adelaide because of the price difference.
-
Hi Lakes,
Got this email back from Caltex today:
Hi Douglas
Thank you for your interest in our Vortex Diesel, at this stage we are trialing this product in NSW only. Hopefully in the future it will be available in QLD, unfortunately at this stage I don't have a definite date.
Kind Regards

I guess we will have to wait to try it up here. Maybe BP ultimate might be the go until then.

hmmm interesting post in the FAQ's of the BP link "Chaz58 asks:
Hi, If using BP Ultimate Diesel, would it still be advantageous to use an additive to prevent algae and moisture accumulation in the tank and filter.
Garry Whitfield says:
The fuel is filtered at the bowser, but for algae it is a good idea to treat with a biocide every six months"
I've never heard about the biocide thing?
-
so you spent $5 to save 4cents per liter? i know if your going to buy powerade anyway but if not you won't break even on that deal m8.
-
Hi RustBucket, BP Ultimate would be as good or better, just have never seen it in NSW myself but saw its in WA, is there a link to retail outlets for BP Ultimate Diesel?
Ozsnowman that algae is bad new m8! i have not used any aditives should ask Hyundai
-
so you spent $5 to save 4cents per litre? i know if your going to buy powerade anyway but if not you won't break even on that deal m8.
That's why he resells to me for $4.99
Ozsnowman that algae is bad news m8! i have not used any additives should ask Hyundai
I've said before that I'm a cynic, but I wonder if BP owns the biocides market?
-
Rubix, anything is possible m8.
thats one reason why i think it's always a good idea to fill at Service stations that have hi diesel sales specialy truck stops as word travels fast the trucks would not use diesel that is known to have algea, normaly i would expect it to be in the storage tanks, b4 it could get to your fuel tank. i knew a guy that got algea in his 4WD he had to have the tank removed and sent away for special cleaning, he was having trouble starting and his fuel filter was blocking up fast, then one day would not start at all. was an old type diesel.
-
so you spent $5 to save 4cents per liter? i know if your going to buy powerade anyway but if not you won't break even on that deal m8.
They are normally $3.55-$4 a bottle. So two for $5, with an extra 4c a litre off, helps a bit. (And yes, wanted two, one for me, one for the other half)
-
BP North Rocks were selling diesel yesterday for 125.9. That's the cheapest I've ever seen it in Sydney.
-
$1.25.9 WOW that is cheap i know the servo you mean too.
i had to drive from Epping to near Sutherland today, in silverwater Rd the BP had unlead @ $1.01.9 & Diesel @ $1.31.9 i was thinking that's cheap then i get to Revesby and a BP had unlead E10 @ $0.96.9 & Diesel @ $1.29.9
seems diesel gradualy coming down
-
Just paid $1.309 for diesel in Melbourne a few hours ago.
-

Well can understand then, all i ever drink is water or strong capichino ( i'm fussy with capo too)
-
Just got diesel at Woolies Gngahlin for$133.9 p/l. Cheapest I've got it yet :D
-
Eyema you should see it come down more soon as $1.25.9 yesturday was the going price at a few BP's & Mobil's here in Syd.
if you look back the price of petrol dropped fast but in the past two weeks petrol has not dropped its at rock bottom just b4 the mountain next week, but diesel has come down 25 cents in past two weeks and will stay more staple over Xmas petrol will go up when demand gets high at Xmas next week. just how business runs.
-
i was wrong! unlead has dropped to $0.88.9 in Sydney
-
Diesel is just a tad below 140 @ 139.7 here in the NT. Petrol is still above a dollar @ 115.7.
In the today's News they had petrol in asia @ USD 41.something a barrel.
-
Got BP Diesel @ Kurmond on Bell's Line Road sunday for $1.22.9
-
Nice Avatar John...
-
thanx Dazz, thought i'd get in early
-
I found this site for most of australia;
http://motormouth.com.au/default_fl.aspx
-
Thanks Teddy,
BP silverwater Road selling Diesel @ $1.20.9
-
Shell on the Wirral
Diesel 94.9p per l
unleaded 82.9 p per l
-
Eye30, how do i find that m8? will they take aussie cent's?
that BP on silverwater Road has gone down to $1.19.9 diesel saw a lot of trucks in there too just a small outlet, but if they keep coming down in price we might get Dazz up for a tank full
Cheers
-
I'd be thankful for a Tankful...
It's around 135.7 here in Devonport (one of the cheaper parts of Tassie) less a further 4c at Woolies and Coles outlets...
-
hey dazz is that in united??? its 135.7 here as well in united.
I fill up in BP coz 'she' works there and get 6c discount. Its still 139.9 hasn't dropped yet, and my DTE is flashing already. I only have tomorrow left to see if the price drops so that I get fuel @ 129.9 instead of 133.9.

No m8 our United is closed for refurbishment.. it's Caltex (Woolies) and Shell (Coles)
I will be surprised if it drops much more as last I heard Oil was easing back up due to uncertainty in Middle East....
P.S. My car seems to like BP Diesel (could be my imagination but got a full tank of BP a couple of fills ago and she seemed a bit smoother and more responsive) Although you wouldn't think one tank would be enough to notice a difference when mixed with a few litres of the previously used caltex?
-

Any excuse to drive the price back up............
If they mean the Hamas v Israeli thing that's even worse.
My 2c, up in Newie it's low 1.30's with the odd very high priced places (140's and even 150's) Penrith/Richmond/Blue mountains area anywhere from 119.9 to 139.9!!!!! Very important to shop around.
Cheers
Daniel
-
what bout the other rumour? They are going to decrease the output to increase the price??? :(
-
Noticed today that the price of unleaded has gone up 1p/l at local garage.
-
Diesel price unchanged here in Sydney unlead does not seem to have changed eather.
-
Well price gap closed up a lot in Syd yesturday, like i got diesel @ $1.20.9 ( filled up ready for a trip this arvo) unlead had jumped up to $1.10 to $1.16. but thats normal like diesel seems to be more stable in price, on thursday some servo's had petrol @ $0.49.9 and diesel @ $1.22.9 But i'd say prices are on the way up again soon
-
Still $1.11 for diesel at Shell independent on Buderim. Still cheaper than Woolies and Coles discount
-
Yesterday I filled up and I got Diesel cheaper than Premium unleaded. I paid 115.9 and petrol was 117.9
-
Funny thing happened....petrol price went up.
was 114.7
is 118.7
Diesel is still 135.7
-
I don't think you Aussie guys would like buying fuel in Blighty :P
-
Noticed prices are creeping up again.
2p today on diesel now 100.9p/l at BP
-
Cheapest Diesel I have found in Canberra is $125.9 at Woolies Gungahlin. Unleaded $115.9.
That is the smallest price gap between the two I have seen in a while.
Glad I bought a Diesel :D
-
I picked it up yesterday for 119.9 at a Mobil in Penrith.
Got 57.7lts in the tank aswell, I must have been on vapours.
Normally I buy caltex but the one i was going to get it from was 124.9 a few kms down the road.
There loss........
Regards
Daniel
-
Amazing how Diesel much you can squeeze into a 53L tank ah Dan.
I once managed to get 59l in. Must have been really low. I might have to start carrying a jerry can of Diesel in the boot. :D
-
Yea to the point where sometimes I think the bowsers are a bit out of whack.
I do know that you can easily put more than the Hyundai quoted 53lts, but there have been times where the maths just doesn't add up right.
When I feel like being a mean B@#$%&*d I'll go into the servo and ask 'How many litres did I use?' Attendant replies with a figure above 53lts. 'So how did I fit that in when it's meant to be a 53 lt tank? Especially seeing as I didn't push it here?'
I've had baffled and on the odd occasion scared looks facing me, I just pay the amount due and walk out.......
I'm cruel aren't I? But it's interesting when they do have a scared and not a baffled look on their face........
Regards
Daniel
-
Yea to the point where sometimes I think the bowsers are a bit out of whack.
In UK pumps are checked regularly by Trading Standards as to liquid dispensed. There is a +- % tolerance and if outside this the pump is taken out of service.
Do you have similar checks in OZ?
-
Cheapest Diesel I have found in Canberra is $125.9 at Woolies Gungahlin. Unleaded $115.9.
That is the smallest price gap between the two I have seen in a while.
Glad I bought a Diesel :D
Today it is 135.9 diesel 107.9 petrol at the Shell (Coles) on the highway at Emerald Beach. There is no logic here..
-
E-10 ULP $1.159
Normal ULP $1.279
Diesel $1.239
Caltex Highway service center at Yass.
Oh joy!
-
Today in Devonport Tas BP and Caltex both up to around 1.18.9 for ULP Diesel still at 1.34.9 (Not quite as good as Thumpers posting but closest for several months...)
-
ulp(E10) $1.207
ulp $1.227
Diesel 1.351
United NT.
-
ULP=$105.9
Diesel=$111.9
-
Is that in Qld?
-
That's Gold Coast Queensland
-
That is cheap!!
Here in Canberra today, LP$1.19.9...Diesel$1.25.9.
Gap between the two looks to be coming down
-
As we do three quarters of our driving in the diesel It's sort of good news for me but like Bob and Russ who also have an unleaded vehicle there are always mixed feelings when unleaded goes up...
-
E-10 ULP $1.159
Normal ULP $1.279
Diesel $1.239
Caltex Highway service center at Yass.
Oh joy!
I was driving through there yesterday and on Friday. On that same trip, the most amazing thing happened (edit, not as amazing as your 4c difference, but still. Here's me thinking "what a story to tell when I get back to the interweb"!).
Diesel was $1.209 and Unleaded standard was $1.219 (e10 wasn't advertised) - I didn't stop there so I didn't write down where it was, but I was shocked to say the least.
I noticed at the 4 places I filled up over the weekend that I was paying more for premium unleaded than for diesel. Bah humbug! This then led to the thought I'll postulate in a new thread, rather than lead this one offtopic. But yeah, I was paying $1.25-1.35 on premium unleaded over my trip, but that was during one of the more expensive weekends in the year, ie Australia Day Long Weekend. I'll see what price I'm paying at my local cheapie tomorrow.
-
The Woolies?Caltex at Gungahlin today was selling ULP for $1.28.9L and Diesel for $1.25.9. I am glad I got the Diesel. :D
of course, ULP will go down 10 cents or so by Mon-Tue, but its still good to see Diesel cheaper than petrol for a change.
-
Yesturday BP @ Bass Hill selling Diesel $1.14.9 BP Silverwater Rd Diesel $1.19.9 unlead $1.25.9 Mobile diesel $1.20.9 unlead $1.14.9
but i'd say diesel will go up just it always takes longer to change . petrol goes up and down fast. the bad news is the AU$ went down again.
-
Prices rising in UK.
My local Shell put all fuel up 1p/l
others increased prices Monday
-
Diesel will go up, it's just it doesn't react that badly to change. Remember how the diesel price was hovering around the AU$1.70 for a while, whilst petrol prices plummeted to $1.10?
-
sure you are right duckman, just it's cheap here right now was three BP servo's selling diesel below $1.20 all week one $1.19.9 another $1.18.9 and a third $1.14.9 but the BP i filled at was $1.22.9, reason i chose this one was they have about ten high flow diesel pumps and one normal you can see large trucks on just about every pump so high turn over my motor likes it too. i seem to get my best economy with the fuel from this BP too, even better\ than useing Caltex Vortex diesel but my motor does feel responcive after a tank full of vortex just it does not use less fuel on vortex. i also noticed that it was easy to fill right up with BP from this servo compared to so others.
#who knows why?
cheers
-
price of diesel definatly getting cheaper here, but don't ask me why. tonight i saw a mobile servo that has sold diesel at $1.20.9 for past few weeks and had diesel still at $1.20.9 and unlead at $1.15.9 thursday night now diesel there is $1.17.9 and unlead $1.19.9
-
I'm going to fill up at the local Mobile as they have diesel @ $1.17.9 and friday after work i'm going 500 k that will be cheapest tank i've used since buying the i30 last April, so happy. still have not noticed a great deal of difference in economy between mobile BP or Caltex Vortex, but the Vortex seems to make motor feel more responcive after you go a few hundred k on it it seems to get beter, mobile runs ok , BP runs nice Vortex $1.30.9 Mobile $1.17.9 BP $1.22.9 have not used shell but someone on here said they got beter eco on shell than vortex diesel, gives me a pain in the head thinking about it all  but on a trip in fith gear the i30 CRDi runs great with any of them its just runing up through the gears you can feel a slight diference, on the trip i'll be mostly in 5th with CC on.
cheers
-
$1.17.9, yeah thats cheap.
Cheapest I have found here is still $1.25.9.
-
Eyma, it's off the main road but close to the sydney end of F3 ( 10k ) the Caltex on pennant hills road has diesel high @ $1.30? BP is around $1.24.9 all the cheap diesel is away from known tourist routs so makes me think the big oil co's want to rip tourists $'s off you can buy BP @ $1.16.9 last week was $1.14.9 down bass hill on hume hwy
-
Luxembourg: Diesel 1.72 Aus$
Fuel 95 1.88
Fuel 98 1.94
The Price is per Liter!Note that we´re one of the cheapest in europe!
-
Hi i30racer.. what is the latest with your blown turbo?
-
The garage closest to my house had diesel a cent cheaper than unleaded today (first time I've seen that in Tas for 6 months I reckon)
Strangely they are about 14c dearer than another garage in town on Unleaded and 5 cents dearer than a different one on diesel...
-
Had a run to Melbourne airport Tuesday, and in Sunbury diesel was 111.9!! Unleaded was 114.9
-
111.9 is good, near me cheapest diesel is 112.9 , unlead and E10 go up and down tuesaday being there cheapest day, but it's the unposted 95 pemium and 98/100 that have gone up they are over 10cents higher than the unlead posted price. and if you own a euro petrol car they must use 95 or better
-
Can't see why Tassie Diesel is over 10cents a litre dearer than the North Island...
-
I think it has always been that way Dazz as i remember every time ive been down there i saw petrol prices were a lot higher than i was used to. might be just ripping tourists driving around the island off? who knows but something is not right! start a campain to not buy fuel monday or tuesday in Tassie?
-
start a campain to not buy fuel monday or tuesday in Tassie?
It's too dear Monday, Tuesday, Hyundai.. everyday..
