The UK Honest John site publishes the data for the annual MOT failure rates for all models each year. (MOT = Ministry of Transport annual safety and emissions inspection)
In the UK cars are tested annually after 3 years from new. It takes about a year for the government to collect and tabulate the data – hence the latest results available are for cars registered in 2008.
You will undoubtedly draw your own conclusions when comparing the results for each model. My own view is that Hyundai need to improve if they are to be as reliable as the others. However - bear in mind that the MOT test covers only structural and safety related items plus emissions – hence a host of engine, transmission, electrical and cosmetic items are not tested or failure rates recorded.

Interesting data.
Mine past first time on both tests taken.

Interesting that Ford were most reliable in Essex and Dagenham. I wonder why?
The figures are not much use to the 'man in the street'.
Looking at the top of the list they are all expensive cars, maintained regardless of cost, and should pass the MoT with flying colours.
I have had two Hyundai Terracans from new which needed no warranty work and passed the 3rd and 4th year MoT without problem.
My wife has had a five year old Getz from new with no warranty work needed and which, yesterday, passed it's third MoT on a spur of the moment decision without any preparation (but I do keep my cars up to scratch at all times)

:thanx: Alan I found that very interesting (if a little disappointing)
We have had such a good experience with both our i30's I was surprised to not see them closer to the top of the chart :disapp:

Looks like lots of people have failed to check their lights and tyres before they take their car for the MOT test. If they had the results would have been much better !!
