when the outside of the windows are condensed on cold mornings or have droplets from rainy days, the window seal doesn't seem to clear it off by putting the windows down, instead i am having to wipe them? :disapp:
Any body else got this problem, the seals are in good condition and seal the window when it's closed, but seem to come out of contact when going down :confused:
Also it's a 1.6 crdi classic, 59 plate.

Welcome Botty,
The seal is there to provide protection only when the window is closed. If the seal pressed against the window on opening or closing, grit would cause scratches in the glass. :neutral:

Welcome Botty ... Some of my previous cars have done what you would prefer to happen, but not the i30. It may be for the reason Phil says. We are also lucky enough to have a warm garage.

Happens with mine too, though I'm not concerned in the slightest. I'd much rather the natural arc of the window keep it clear of the seal when lowering, than having "verticle rain features" permanently (and increasingly) inscribed onto the glass ;)

I mentioned this as a fault on my first service but was told that the seals were working as normal. My two previous cars would clean the windows if opened and closed - never noticed any scratches on the glass.
Although it slightly annoys me when I have to use the scraper on the windows I don't have to do it very often really.

As previously stated the window seals function is not to clear any condensation or water droplets from your glass. Its there to seal the window.
It can be a pain, and I understand where your coming from, but with other cars that do it, its just a coincidence.

I find the same.
Once I've moved off the wind starts to clear the water.
Plus I've found when I get to a corner and lower the window so I get a clear view, when it goes up I find I get a smeared "clearer" area which just happens to be in my line of view.

Won't that just remove any grime etc.? I think you need to add a layer of something to repel the water and dew.
I reckon I'll try lard, rub a bit on and then polish. Should repel water.

Autoglym window polish (greenish colour i think) or Autoglym fast glass do the job very well
rain-x i havent used but heard great reviews :)

I use Rain-X and that is fine once you get up to speed, doesn't help when you first move off though!!
I usually pop the window down and then run my finger along the top of the seal, pushing it towards the inside of the car, window up, pushing the seal back into it's normal postion and clearing the dew away at the same time :goodjob:

Yikes - isn't that clearing it downwards - into the door frame ... :scared:
