Title: Windscreen query.
Post by: VFouR on November 15, 2008, 15:23:55
Hi. I just wondered if the "Solar control windscreen" blocks radio signals?
For example to a Navigation Unit attached to same.

Thank you...

Welcome Bill03... :P

It's a bit ironic that the UK vehicles seem to come with this and the Aussie ones don't...I'm sure Shambles or Eye30 will have your answer....

Eye30 will have your answer....

I do not have sat nav.

I still rely on a map.  I like to "feel" my way around.

so unable to answer your query.

I have an "athermic" windscreen which blocks UV and, as I found out, SatNav signals. But the coating isn't all over the glass. A good SatNav unit (like my Navman S90i), when positioned low down near the dash, works a treat.

Yeah I can't quite get my head round it, given the lack of sunshine we get up here  :?

Thanks for the replies.
Apparently on athermic windscreens there is often a "clear" section at the top of the screen, behind the interior mirror. This area is left open for things like Toll Tags and Automatic door transmitters.
So if I have problems I will try sticking an aerial behind the mirror.

Used my Garmin sat nav mounted low down drivers side works ok, but the bracket has not got quite enough movement to have the unit 'square' facing you, must be the angle of the windscreen as other cars I have used it in are fine.

Hi Bill

I have a Magellan Roadmate which has been in 3 different positions in the car and it works perfectly in all of them, despite the solar glass.

Cheers
Brian
