Thank you to the moderators for providing a new section.
Thoughts anyone?
-
Can't make it to a meet up there in the next few months (but would have loved to!)
I live in Devonport Tasmania where the Spirit of Tasmania (ferry between Melbourne and Tassie) docks. If anyone decides to bring their i30 down to Tassie to enjoy our roads, I will give them a warm welcome (even if it's cold!)
Cheers,
Dazz
-
G-Day Thumper,
I like your idea but not sure there is a concentration of i30 owners ,or members more to the point to make it work.
How about this for an idea though. We all drive our cars down to port Melbourne. Sounds like fun allready right, But wait theres more. We than load our entire fleet of I30's ,Petrol , Deisel, Auto , manuals, Sx and slx and SR's of asorted colours onto the spirit of tasmania and set sail to the appple isls.
Tassie Dave will meet us on arrival and from there we will follow him to Dazz's place. Dazz will greet us all with a cold Cascade lager and a selection of King island cheeses before putting us all up for the night in his new 40 Sq place he has just completed. Sorry Dazz, your wife might need to park her Nissan Tiida on the street for the night to accomodate the 40 or fifty on i30' in your garage.
The next day we will set out early (to advoid tassie peek hour) and set out on a drive around Tassie with Dazz acting as our tour guide. Can you imagine, a convoy of I30's cruising the roads of Tasmania. We will certainly get some looks.
I have never been to Tassie but have heard it is a lovely place to have a leisurely driving holiday. What a way to see the place.
What do you reckon guy?
You up for it Dazz?
-
Bring it on ... only prob I can see is that I haven't built the house yet - but done an artist impression

Looks goog Dazz, Plenty of room to put up 50 I30 owners.
Mate, we dont get blocks that big in Canberra.
-
Yeah - 2 acres for $83,000 (private sale) Got a little dam and a 14" deep well (crystal clear water)

Looks really good. My wife would kill to live there.
We recently (14 months ago) sold our 3 bedroom place and moved into a bigger 4 bedroom house in Canberra. Now she is on my case to sell up again and move onto a big block or property within an a hours drive of Canberra somewhere.
-
Ok, before this thread goes waaaaay off-topic, how about just a little meet up? Coffee, beer or such?
-
Hi Thumper,
We did get a bit off topic agreed.
I like your idea. but other than you and me, who else is likely to attend. I mean if people are prepared to travel maybe up to 2 hours or so from the ACT or surounding areas, fantastic, i will be all for it.
Maybe if we can get some expresions of interest we can judge if we can make it happen.
-
I'd be interested as long as its a sort of central place for sydneysiders :D
-
Ok, how about a trip to Goulburn? (About half way)
Nice run down/up the highway.
Thoughts?
-
How about Mcdonalds at Sutton Forest?
Hlf way and we can all sit down to a big Mac
-
That'll cost more than the fuel we would use to get there!
Ok, sounds good.
Up for a run soon?
-
Boys... I'm jealous, my next trip to the "North Island" I'll be trackin' some of you down...
-
Post a google maps location?
-
Count me in, in spirit if not body.
Don't forget to post pics etc
-
Yeah Pics...
Good Idea!
I could be there ON the Spirit
(http://i384.photobucket.com/albums/oo286/i30ownersclub/SmallSpirit.jpg)
(but cant get time off at the mo - offsider on workers comp)
-
Hey Dazz i will be on that boat on friday night going to that big island
sorry tho i wont be around that area for a meet up (dont own an i30 yet anyway hopfuly
one day).
jamie
-
Guess you guys haven't caught up yet... what's going on ? Photo's, we want photos....
-
Dunno, thread kinda got hijacked by pictures and talk of houses and The Spirit of Tasmania! 8-)
EDIT: How about half way between Sydney and Canberra, say Bowral? Should only cost a few $'s for us diesel owners!
-
google maps estimates that as a 2 hour drive for me. not toooo bad
considering i do an hours drive to work each day, and with my iPod thats only 2 cd's of music might be an idea to get everyone to see the time/distance so we can work out a half way point.
-
hey guys would love to catch up wiv ya's but im from the otha side of australia. and it'll take me like a week to get there plus i dnt think my boss will give me time off
but yeah.
ash
-
I'll be in Sydney for the next three weeks, working, without my i30 (Company is paying me to drive one of their vans up)
So, how about a NSW/ACT meet at Bowral, say at the end of August?
I think we'll have enough members now for a little meet.
-
ill be keen for a sydney meet up
Definately. . Ill drive anywhere
-
HOW CAN I GET MY CAR ACROSS THE DITCH TO JOIN UP WITH YOU GUYS?
-
Hi Ross how's your car going..
I've got a smaller ditch to cross, but it's a ditch just the same
-
Thumper, if you make it the very end of August I may actually have an i30 to join you with. Otherwise it would be in my old V6 Camry which may not make Bowral, or my Surly push-bike which definitely won't make Bowral.
-
Well, after coming back from Sydney for work, I now have to jet off to Brisbane tomorrow morning at 5am. Bleh!
Will be up in Brisbane until early next month, so, looks like an August meet is off the cards, how about early Sept?
Thoughts?
-
Still no news on my car, beginning to think I won't get it this side of Floriade!
-
Sept sounds good, maybe even delay it till Bikejockey gets his car as he sounds pretty keen.
-
Still no news on my car, beginning to think I won't get it this side of Floriade!
Floriade, what in the .... is that (sounds like some kind of drink
)
-
Hi Dazz,
Floriade does sound like a drink, or maybe somthing you would clean the toilet with.
Its actually a celebration of spring. It is set around lake burley griffin and incorporates hundreds of gardens all planted out in spring flowering plants. They use mostly bulbs, mainly Tulips but also Iris, Daffodils and poppies to create wonderful dispays and designs.
It attracts thousand of tourists each year and generates plenty of business for the community.
If your a keen gardener, you will love it. If your not, its still worth a look for it is on an amazing scale.
-
Thanks Eyma... guess I should have Googled...
-
TP,
Please don't pospone it for me - we are likely to have a pretty complicated life for the next couple of months so may not be able to make it anyway. Maybe the next one?
-
Actually, a Canberra meet (First meet) during Floriade sounds like a perfect idea. (Hyundai i30, better for the environment, cleaner air, flowers.)
I think we have a few members that could make it to this one.
Anyone interested?
-
Thumper,
I prefer your earlier suggestion of Bowral. I think more Sydney siders would make the trip.
I am definatley keen. It just about where and when.
-
Ok, cool, a Canberra meet can be done later.
Bowral still is on the cards. (I'm flying back up to Sydney tomorrow (Friday) for two weeks, working.
Will chat some more when I get back. (Grrr, bloody work!)
-
-
during Floriade
Thumper,
I'll show my Pommy ignorance here. What is Floriade?
Is it some sort of carnival?
-
Hi Eye...
I asked the same question earlier in this thread (see answer a few postings back)....
-
Dazz I just caught the '2 acres for $83000' part - wow - Is that the going rate for land in Tassie? - around here 1 acre will set you back about $325,000 unless it's miles out of town... and we are nearly 4 hours away from Sydney (an acre in Syd, if you could buy one - probably several $mil I suppose nowadays)

Must of missed it . Thanks.

Hey eye30
I should be a promotions officer, sold floriade pretty well in that spoll.
They should pay me.
-
I am definately keen for this meetup
-
I'd be up for a little hello at some stage. I think I've seen about 5 i30's driving about since I've had mine (Feb 08) and it'd be fun to see a few more all together.
-
Hi Simon,
Does that mean we have ourselves yet another Canberra member?
We are well represented here. There is CHB, Lowemissionsi30, Bikejockey, Thumper( well, close enough, just outside our border) and myself. Sorry if i missed any other Canberrans off the list.
-
Sorry Eyma, Sydney resident. Though I'd love to drive the i30 to Canberra at some stage, done it a few times in our old Pulsar but I reckon it'd be a nicer trip in an i30.
*edit: typo*
-
Ok, let's try to get this ball rolling.
I'm proposing a Canberra BBQ meet down the cotter next weekend (22nd or 23rd November) Say around 10am-11am up from where the old pub used to be. (Drive towards the Cotter dam)
A quick BBQ lunch, get to say hello to each other, have a chin wag, and plan the future gathering up North with the rest of the NSW folk.
What say you Canberrians?
-
Its a maybe from me.
If the weather is fine I'll be there
Something about having several i30's lined up in a row gets me all excited.
-
EymaTeapot said he'll try and make it.
The wife and I will be there, with a little feed on the BBQ.
Even if you don't have an i30, yet, all are welcome to come down and have a chat.
-
Love to come. My i30 purchase is on hold until the new year but I'd really like to chat about the car.
I'm busy on Saturday but may still be able to sneak out for an hour or 2. Sunday's fine.
Peter
-
Weather permitting, Sunday 23rd looks like a go.
Ok, down at the Cotter, go over the large bridge at the old pumping station, go around the turns, head over the smaller bridge then turn right like you are going towards the Cotter dam.
Have a look for my silver i30 (Can't miss the tail lights)
I'll be somewhere near a BBQ and seating of some sort.
Say, around 11am-Midday.
Even if you don't have an i30, come up and say hello!
-
Thanks for the update Thumper.
Main factor will be weather I think.
:D
-
Hi Guys
We are just back from Coffs Harbour. Weather was about the same there as it is here at the moment. :-[
Very kke for this ACT meet but the forecast for tomorrow is rain. What if we put it forward one week for Sunday 30th.
-
Yeah I thought the weather might spoil it.
Its sunny with blue sky at the moment, but that could change very soon.
So are we definitely gonna reschedule to the 30th?
Depending on weather ofcourse
:)
-
If the weather is good in the morning, it's still on.
If it's raining cats and dogs, then it'll the following weekend. 8)
-
Okey dokie.
Can you or eyma post a quick weather report in the morning?
I'll have to leave between 8-9 to get there for lunch thats all
:)
-
Shall do. 8)
-
Shall do too :)
-
Raining all night, :'( I vote for next week
-
Likewise, more rain coming through according to BOM.
Next weekend it is.
Sorry folks, rare that we have had this much rain! (It is a good thing, we needed it!)
-
...rare that we have had this much rain! (It is a good thing, we needed it!)
Well we get it all year round, and we sure don't need it.
Good luck guys with the meetup
-
No worries.
Thanks for the update
-
Yeah, it's a bit cool out there today - see you next weekend.
Peter
-
Could anyone recommend venues for markets down in canberra?
Whenever we have the meet, the parents are going to tag along too.
They want to visit the markets while I'm at the meet.
Quick google search shows there are quite a few venues, but not sure which one will be on!
http://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en&q=canberra+markets&btnG=Google+Search&meta=
Thanks,
Cam
-
Hi Cam,
The old bus depot Markets will be on if we do the meet on a Sunday. They sell a lot of art and craft and other good stuff. If its fruit and vegies your after, the belconen or Fyshwick markets are both good.
-
Excellent!
Thanks Eyma
Although its only 3hrs away we dont visit Canberra often.
The last visit was in September when I was down for an interview/job assessment.
:)
But we didnt get to venture to any of the exciting places.
I really like Canberra, just never had the opportunity to drive around and have a look.
-
Typical, the weather today is perfect!
Oh well.
-
Yeah stupid bloody weather

Its typical, back to work for the week and it clears up.
:'(
-
Oh well, thats Canberra weather for you, expect the unexpected.
It sounds like we have a few starters for next Sunday though. :)
-
Yeah it should be good.
So we should have me, eyma, thumper and bikejockey.
Anyone else gonna come?
-
Let's try this one again.
30th (Sunday) 11am-Midday start, down at the Cotter reserve.
Head over the large bridge at the pumping station, following the winding road till you get to a smaller bridge, cross it, then turn right towards the Cotter Dam.
Looks like we will be either on the left (Large undercover BBQ area) or on the right near the children's playground (For those who wish to bring the little ones)
Electric BBQ's are there, so is seating.
No stores or rubbish bins, so you have to bring it in, and take it back out!
Plenty of parking, sealed road all the way. (IE: No dirt)
Hope to see you there!
(If the weather turns sour again, will post first thing in the morning with an update)
EDIT: If you want to share mobile numbers, PM me. 8)
-
No stores or rubbish bins, so you have to bring it in, and take it back out!
 No rubbish outlets
That is totally alien to me. You have to take all rubbish back from where you came?
-
Can't be that alien Shambles, when I was in Yorkshire in '93 there were no bins in the National Parks there either. The signs told us to take our rubbish with us and it seemed to work pretty well. Just something else we've copied from you Poms.
-
Pah. Never heard of that before. Never seen it either. What's "Yorkshire" anyway
-
Yeah, it's a respect principle. Works well here. Take your rubbish with you!
If you expect others to pick up after you, then there is rubbish everywhere!
-
Awesome. Thanks for the update
:)
Thumper, off the top of your head would you know the closest shopping centre / butcher?
I'll probably pick up some snags on the way through rather than carting them down with me.
-
If you are coming through, Western Creek shopping mall has a servo (As if you'd need it) and a Woolworths. A few takeaways and a bottle shop.
Also a laserwash carlovers kind of thing, if you need to give the little one a bath before it comes down. You know, get rid of some dead bugs that may have committed suicide on the front of your clean i30.
Less than 5min off the main road.
http://tiny.cc/7btTA
That is a link from Google Maps on how to get from the City to the Cotter reserve. (You can see Western Creek on those maps)
Follow the map, NOT the directions (They are rather wrong, by the looks of things)
-
Cool!
Thanks
I'm using this as a bit of an economy run. It will be the biggest trip yet for it.
I dont think I'll get lost.
I'll have the trusty Navman with me anyway.
-
Gah, my auto spell checker, sorry folks, it's NOT Western Creek.
It's meant to be 'Weston Creek'
-
I am looking forward to our meet.
Hope the weather holds 8)
-
The weather doesn't know what it wants to do...lol
Its currently overcast and looks like its about to pour down. But in around 2 hours we'll probably get sunshine again!
I hope the weather is fine on Sunday.
I'll be washing mine on Sat anyway. Its a bit dirty.
-
Well it cleared up for about 45mins this arvo.
Nice and sunny. Thats when I washed the car
10mins later it started raining
I'm really hoping the weather is nice for tomorrow.
Can you give me an update in the morning again please?
:)
-
Forecast is for fine weather tomorrow.
Looking at cloud charts, it looks to be fine.
Unless it's pissing down rain, I guess it's still on for tomorrow! 8)
Will post again in the morning what the weather is like.
(I was in Sydney all yesterday, and left about 4am. Rain all the way up, rain all the way back, got caught in peak hour, still managed a respectable 3.7lt/100 km)
-
I think we will be OK for tomorrow :) Forecast looks goods. see you there
-
Sweet!
-
Looking forward to it - see you there.
-
Another quick question...
How long approximately does it take to get from the Old Bus Depot Markets to Cotter Dam / picnic area?
-
Weather is perfect. Not a cloud in the sky, slight breeze, slightly coldish, but should warm up.
BBQ is still on.
Time wise, roughly 25-35 mins, depending on how you drive, and if you get stuck at the odd traffic light.
-
Cool, I will be there. Should arrive just after 11.00am
-
Hope you guys are having a good day. It's incredibly good weather here in Suburban Sydney, so I hope the weather is staying fine there.
-
Hi Guys,
Not long back from the cotter. We had good weather and a good little get together.
Thumper took some pictures of our i30's. There were only three, Thumpers, Cameroneys and mine, but it still looked nice to see them all lined up together. Bikejockey was also present at the meet but has'nt picked up his car as yet :'(
Thumper will post some more details and photos shortly, but it was a good day and successful outing.

We are all envious of your little get together.. I think the biggest meeting up to this time for the club was only two members!
Eyma, you will be quite the celebrity on our site now with two lots of pictures....
-
Thanks Dazz,
I think I was able to keep my ugly head out of the pics this time
-
Lol.
I can't wait 'til I get mine!
Not to steal the thunder from your meet, but maybe we should start organising a New Year get-together now, in the Blue Mountains - following up from Whitbomb's thread earlier... for as many NewSouthWelshmen as possible. 5+ people is the target... with snags and steaks of course.
-
Just arrived back home after a near perfect day for a BBQ.
Three i30's showed (Myself, EymaTeapot and camerooney) and Bikejockey with partner.
So we had three different colours, Crystal White - Continental Silver - Steel Grey.
Nice BBQ was had by all, and it was good to catch up, chat about our i30's, and show others who haven't acquired one, yet! :P (Come on, Bikejockey, you know you want one!)
Now, pictures. Please excuse the quality, my digital SLR decided it was now the perfect time to scramble the SD memory card. Hence, I had to resort to plan B, the video camera. All shots where taken with it, grabbing each still frame, reducing the size by 50%, then posting up here.

I like your alloy's, Teapot.
Btw - should post these pics in their own thread in the new Pic'ies part of the forum
(Edit: Oh, you already did put 2 of them there)
-
Thanks Rubix,
I notice you have my car among others appear on your avatar. I see this as a great compliment
Just to add another interesting side note. There were two other car club meets happening at the Cotter river today. There was the Ford GT owners club with about 8 beautifully presented GT falcons. My kids thought they were cool. There also appeared to be a Toyota Supra owners meet with about a dozen vehicles represented. Our little gathering probably appeared pretty dismal by comparison, but hey, we are growing as a club and next time we will have a bigger gathering.
One topic of conversation between our happy Little group was to propose a Canberra/Sydney meet. I know Thumper suggested this a while back, but our member base has increased considerable, so it may well be worth floating this idea again. Mittagong or Bowral were two suggested locations.
So what do you think Sydney?
PS...All of us present were also considering a trip to the blue mountain meet if it happens.
PPS...I might post this subject under a fresh thread as well
-
It was a lovely day, and well worth the 3hr drive down
:)
BBQ was great, and it was wonderful to meet Eyma, Thumper and Bikejockey (and ofcourse Eyma's kids and Thumper/Bikejockey's partners)
We did discuss another meet between the Sydney members + Canberra members.
Not really sure on location at the moment, but perhaps we should start another thread?
I'm up for it.
:P

It was a great day guys, very nice to meet everyone.
Yeah, you're right thumper - I gotta get one!

Yep, unless I do it before Xmas
I'd like to see the CW tho'...

The wagon looks ok in photos.
But the hatch looks better
:P
-
Actually I think you're right about the hatch. Got a photo yesterday of the CW and Hatch side-by-side just showing their rear ends. I think the hatch looks better.
Do I need the extra space - nah!
Do I need to spend the extram money - nah!
I still might wait 'till the new yeart though.
