Title: Forum Move Date
Post by: r5e on November 17, 2008, 11:39:55
We're going to aim for around 10pm (AEST) Thursday 20/11/08. This forum will be taken off-line with a message on the front page telling people to wait for re-delegation. This should prevent any data being lost from posts that get made after the backup is taken from here and restored to the new site.

If all goes well, people should see the new site within minutes of the DNS change being made (I've pre-made some special arrangements for this to circumvent the usual 24-48 hour wait).

However, it will take about 30 mins to backup/move/restore/convert the database on the new site assuming no problems, so realistically, I'd say downtime could be up to an hour, but we'll do our best to be as quick as possible (best case 20 mins).

There will also be a message on the new site while this is happening to prevent anyone from posting before the database is properly restored there. As soon as you see the message removed, you'll know it is right to go.

The temporary URL of http://i30ownersclub.fyvie.org/forum/ (http://i30ownersclub.fyvie.org/forum/) should still get you there if your ISP's DNS records are slow to take the update on the night and you are desperate for your fix.

Yes, 12 noon GMT. You'll all have to go outside and rub your eyes for a while and remember life before this site - at least until it comes back online again.
