Here's what you get....
I decided, in spite of purchasing a car cam not so long ago, to "upgrade" to a better one.
After seeing videos from other users of DOD cams, I decided to go for the DOD F520.
I purchased it from this ebay seller: :link: (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-DOD-F520-Car-Recorder-DVR-Full-HD-1920-1080p-120-Wide-Degree-/360418068677?pt=Personal_Watercraft_Parts&hash=item53ea9748c5)
I've had it over 3 weeks now and while I haven't made many videos, I'm pretty happy with the performance so far...... :goodjob:
-
:goodjob:
-
Looking forward to the videos, rustynutz.
-
Yeah, welcome to DOD City :)
-
Thanks, and you've probably already seen one of my videos with the new cam......"Skippy" :D
-
Here's another I did when it wasn't raining..... :p
One thing I have noticed, and I suspect it would be an issue with any cam, is the sun reflecting off the screen, that and the constantly
changing sunlight when there are lots of trees alongside the road, it plays havoc as can be seen in this next video.
Take note of the difference once I turn right away from the sun....the picture quality is much better.......
Crank it up to top quality and full screen... :goodjob:

I enjoyed that trip in the countryside. That was quite a big cemetery you drove past - where was that the dead centre of?
-
:whsaid: very enjoyable at top settings, and very good quality despite the glare, which wasn't as bad as you might think (I was just grateful to see some sunshine)
I wonder if repositioning it might improve things?
I also note that yours doesn't suffer from "boom"; that's one reason I've muted mine. My positioning seems to act like an echo chamber for all the noises in the car, like the LNB at the centre of a satellite dish.

Thanks Alan, that was the dead centre of Korumburra.....KorumburraWiki
And thanks for the feed back, Steve...
Mine might not suffer the "boom" but it does have a slightly annoying rattle, did you happen to notice it?
I thought it may have been the strap rattling against the side but that wasn't it. Then I suspected it was the tightening key on the
suction cup mount, but a piece of tape to stop any movement didn't cure the noise either... :undecided:
I know it's not bad, but I hate rattles...
-
If you shake the camera and hear/feel a rattle, it's easily dismantled to check :whistler:
(PS, we have a [wiki]...[/wiki] tag you can use for Wikipedia keywords ;))
-
Very clear .. I enjoyed that :goodjob2: :goodjob:(so much like Tassie eh..) shame about the rattle (I hate them too...)
-
Same camera as me, from the same seller!
Here is a link to mine. Wasn't on the best settings as I was playing around.

First thing I tried, Steve....no sign of a rattle when I shake the camera.... :undecided:
Oh, and thanks for pointing out the wiki thingy.....
Daz, I took you for a drive on that road when you visited.....admittedly we went in the opposite direction though. :)

Trish always says if you turned me around twice I would be lost :snigger:
Mind you, Gippland is like Tassie, a lot of the areas look similar... :goodjob:

Well, Tassie was joined up to the mainland once so perhaps that's understandable.... :)

DOD is one of the popular good brands for car cam. :goodjob2:

Here are a couple more videos I thought I'd share...... :)

Thanks for sharing... :snigger:

It just comes up with "This video is private" when I try to view it.
-
Ah, so pip was being sarcastic..... :-[
I want my "thanks" back now!
Anyhow, thanks for the heads up, Dave...problem hopefully fixed so both should work now.....
-
Nice and clear and stable Rusty :D :goodjob:
-
Thanks Daz...so they obviously worked then....or are you having a pull too? :p :D
Oh and thanks to whoever retrieved my "thanks" :goodjob:

    :undecided:
-
Of my leg, Dave..... :)
-
Oh.
Somde nice Australian countryside there.
Where did you find the best mounting place to be?
-
Oh and thanks to whoever retrieved my "thanks" :goodjob:
And I was just being helpful. :(
-
Thanks! :D
Just ducked outside and took this pic for ya..... :)
This is pretty much the only place I've tried it.
Quite happy to leave it there as any interference with my vision out of the windscreen is negligible......

Me thinks your idea and my idea of being helpful is a tad different, pip.... :whistler:
But, I'm feeling generous at the moment, so....thanks mate... :)
-
Thanks! :D

There's sooooo much innuendo in our club
Keep it up chaps :D
-
I always thought that an innuendo was an Italian suppository... :undecided:
-
-
I decided to go for a bit of a drive yesterday while the weather was semi reasonable...... :)
The following videos may not be overexciting as there are no idiots trying to run me off the road etc, but
I thought you may (as I did) just enjoy the drive through some glorious countryside....
Enjoy......

Thanks Rusty nice and clear, wish our internet coped better with 1080P though
-
:whsaid:
If I put it on 1080 it just keeps stopping and buffering. :disapp:
-
That's a shame as high quality vids are getting fairly common on youtube these days... :(
What I do is I actually download these videos and then watch them stutter free.... :D
-
That's a good idea Rusty :goodjob:
Some videos i've downloaded make me stutter
-

Mine might not suffer the "boom" but it does have a slightly annoying rattle, did you happen to notice it?
Sorry to bring this up again but I only just saw this topic. It doesn't happen to be the camera changing focus/settings is it? Just. Seemed to happen when the light changed. Does it rattle when it is off?
-

I really don't know, Taz....
I've noticed it also does it when cornering...... :undecided:
You can only hear the rattle when you play back what you've recorded, otherwise there's no sign of it.
I've shaken the unit and there's no sign of anything rattling inside....well, not that I can hear anyhow.
I've ordered a different windscreen mount now so it will be interesting to see if that changes anything......
-
rustynutz
that rattle is likely to come from inside, at least I have read some topics from Russian owners, who experienced the same problem.
-
Did any find the source of the rattle, Misha? :undecided:
Anyhow, I decided to "crack" open the case and to have a look see for myself....just the part that houses the lens and circuit board.
The circuit board isn't screwed in position so I am wondering if that could be a possible noise source.....
There's a little bit of padded tape on the back of the board which the case pushes against when it is all screwed together.
I decided to add a little more tape which I'm hoping will clamp the circuit board a little more firmly....
Time will tell whether it made a difference, I guess.... :)
-
I think you've nailed it Rusty
-
I hope so, Phil...cheers :)
-
I decided to add a little more tape which I'm hoping will clamp the circuit board a little more firmly....
With my previous camera I added some soft foam (from the back of a washing up pad) between case and battery, which kept the battery tight, and cured the rattling.
My Doddy doesn't have any such issues. Yet.

Thanks for the suggestion, Steve.. :goodjob:

unfortunately I can not recall a precise source, but I'll try to find at least one message with a detailed note
-
some advises to change a microphone to something else of better quality
-
Thanks for that.. :goodjob:
I don't think I'm likely to bother trying to change microphones....that would go in the too hard basket for this little black duck...
-
I'm not interested in the sound, personally. In fact until very recently I had mine muted, but reenabled it just 'cos I can.
-
To be honest it really doesn't excite me either. Would be different if it didn't pick up so much rumble etc.......
What I really need is to get proficient with some video editing software like Daz..... :whistler:

I really should be going to the next level with my editing but for basic editing that how to video I posted will getmosted people started.
-
Thanks mate, my trouble is if it can't be learned in 5 minutes I lose interest..... :-[
And what hope have I got when I need to be on here 24hrs a day just to keep up with all these posts you lot keep posting up?
-
Sadly for you Rusty it's only going to get worse, more members, more posts
-
Maybe I need to do a 5 minute speed reading course? :undecided:
-
Would probably take 10 mins.

is there any nuclear power station around? :D

Thanks Rusty... :goodjob2: :goodjob: I really enjoyed that. I liked the tempo of the music as well as the obvious association... Gee you wouldn't forget those lyrics in a hurry

None around here, Misha.... :goodjob:

There were lyrics? :p
To be honest, I didn't take too much notice of them..... :-[
-
It's always nice to get into the car and go for a drive.
Especially when it's someone else's. :goodjob2:
-
is there any nuclear power station around? :D
We only have a medical reactor at Lucas Heights in NSW. Produces radioactive isotopes for cancer treatment. We have lots of uranium which we foolishly sell to the rest of the world. :fum:
-
I tried out a new camera mount and although the results were a bit disappointing as far as stability goes, I thought I'd still share as the setting sun produced some magic colours & effects.......
Hope you enjoy it.... :undecided:
