MODIFYING OR DETAILING YOUR I30 => TYRES | WHEELS | BRAKES => Topic started by: eye30 on July 03, 2012, 13:31:45

Under the new regulations, all tyres sold from the start of November 2012 will have to carry eco labels similar to those for domestic appliances. All new tyres produced from 1 July will have to carry the stickers. However, tyres are not allowed to be labelled before 1 June to create a level playing field for the manufacturers.
The labels will show buyers three areas of performance: fuel efficiency, on-road noise levels and wet braking.

Interesting.
I'd be interested to know how they measure those things. As in, what tests are conducted and who conducts them.
If they are like Tread Wear Ratings in the US it would defeat the purpose. (Done by the manufacturer).
Performance? ??? :undecided:
Wet braking? ??? :wacko:
And road noise? How do they relate that to which car they might be fitted to?

here are a couple of Googled articles with more info.

My understanding about road noise is that the concern is to reduce the external noise pollution produced by the tyre - not the cabin noise. Hence the new indicator on noise is not helpful if you are looking to reduce cabin noise because the external noise generated by a tyre is only indirectly related to cabin noise - there are many other factors that come into play.

Very interesting, this topic was discussed by us recently, but it was standardizing fuel efficiency figures, not tyres. There must be a pollie reading our conversations :fum:
