Title: End of the road for paper maps?
Post by: eye30 on July 14, 2012, 17:11:24

With the rise in new technology people appear to be ditching traditional maps in favour of sat-navs and mobile devices.

Figures suggest sales of printed road atlases have halved since 2005 and fewer Ordnance Survey maps are being sold.

I still use a paper map in conjunction with Garmin Mapsource on the PC to plan holiday routes - then download the waypoints and routes into the Nuvi to use whilst driving.

I do have a paper map of Saint-Petersburg and its suburbs in a car and find it more convenient as compared with Nav. I don't see a sense in using Nav device in a city, unless it is able to show the traffic jams.

Careful.......  Not only can I read a map, I don't have to turn it upside down and then I can fold it up properly afterwards.  :D

They reckon that men have to turn the radio off to read a map. (According to Alan Pease, body language expert anyway).

Gather round and I'll tell you a story......
When my youngest daughter was in her final year at high school she was in class one day and one of the boys was being a bit disruptive in class and the young female teacher was getting annoyder and annoyder (new word).
Finally she lost the plot and got stuck into him and told him to sit down, shut up and listen because it's a known fact that boys can only do one thing at a time, unlike girls who are able to multi-task.
He said, "That's not true, Miss."
She said "Why do you say that?"
And he said, "Well I'm doing two things right now."
She said, "No you're not."
He said, "Yes I am. I'm talking to you and producing sperm at the same time."
Apparently she lost it (laughing).
True story.  :)
