Hi everyone,
Bought an i30 2011 diesel. So far I have purchased 2 (standard size) steering wheel covers from popular auto stores,
and both are too large for the steering wheel!
What gives? I thought all steering wheels are standardized in all vehicles? Did Hyundai made it smaller on purpose so we can only
buy their own custom made covers?
Upon further investigation I measured the diameter of the steering wheel which is 37, and most steering wheel covers are 38-39.
Has anyone else tried a cover from an auto store? And did it fit?

Have you tried searching on Google. I have found quite a few that fit 37 cm wheels
example :-

Did you really?

I have 5 cars in my family 2 of them being Hyundai (98 excel and 00 Accent) and they ALL fit standard 38cm covers
others are (Holden Commodore, Ford Falcon, Daewoo Nubira).
So what is the point of the diameter being 1cm smaller exactly?? (cant think of any reason other than
marketing so we can buy their own steering wheel covers which cost 3-5times more).
Ebay only comes up with 2 results on my search for an "i30 steering wheel cover". (one of them being $35 when
I can buy one from an autostore for $10!)
Problem is I do not want to resort to buying one online, as they are more expensive and there is not as much
choice of styles as I would like to.
So it is true that the steering wheel is 'smaller' than the usual 38cm??

Perhaps things are different in Australia - but in the UK there are numerous car accessory suppliers who sell on-line, not just Ebay.
If you are only prepared to buy from a local auto store - and they do not stock covers for 35 to 37 cm wheels (a size included in the UK on-line listings) - I don't know how we can help you. In the UK, Halfords - the largest auto store chain - sell a couple of adjustable covers that fit all steering wheels from 36 to 38 cms dia. It's a pity that your's don't do the same.
Incidentally - my new 2012 i30 and my wifes's i10 both have 37 cm dia steering wheels

I picked up a wheel cover from Repco that fits quite snugly. It only occasionally slips if it is very cold, and I am moving wheel without engine on, so now power steering.
It is faux leather, but doesn't have any chrome or silver plastic on it. The brand is Winplus and it says Type S.

Could the store perhaps order one in for you? I've never had one not fit the car I'd bought it for but I'd probably ask at the store itself if you wish to buy through them :).
