Title: GD i30 reverse sensors
Post by: Robbo123 on August 12, 2012, 14:34:00
Hi guys. First time Hyundai owner here after purchasing a new i30 elite here in Australia today. My family has traditionally had Japanese cars, so it will be interesting to see what we all think of the car over the coming years.

Anyway I'm just curious as to whether the reverse sensors can be turned off via a switch somewhere in the cabin? I'm yet to take delivery of the vehicle and am just curious. I understand most cars on the market today with factory fitted sensors have a button to turn them on/off.

Edit    Mines a UK model and they do not turn off.

They are only active when I select reverse.

Hi JD, congrats on the purchase.

I'm not sure about the sensor switch. Bumpkins IX20 had a switch (pic below) and there are aftermarket kits you can fit to disable them (when towing, etc) but as to whether yours will come fitted with such a switch, is something you'd be better asking your dealer about, unless one of our members can confirm either way...

How strange not to have the same switch on the Active model - my handbook does not seem to mention "if equipped" for the switch. It gives the impression that if the car is equipped with reverse sensors - it gets the switch

I have not noticed a switch on the Premium to turn it off, but have not specifically looked. Will let you know if I find anything.

Bloody 'ell - we know you are embarassed but you sure do make an issue of it. A billion apologies is a bit excessive. Just a thousand would have been sufficient. My monitor is now suffering screen burn.

Perhaps you might feel better if I admit that it took about a month before I investigated what the switch with funny triangles was for - us blokes are not the best for reading instructions and handbooks.

  :baps:

Was out today and when sitting in the drivers seat I couldn't see the switch so that's why I didn't notice it

Not to be found on my GD 2012 Australian Premium, the switch in that position turns the traction system off.

Gents,
no switch in the Australian spec vehicles.
Which, it poses a problem for a future tow-bar accessory when R is selected. I hazard a patch wiring harness disables the rear parking sensors....otherwise, it would be a downright painful reversing action.

Cheers,
Steve

It would be fun putting it into reverse at traffic lights though, just to be reminded that you have a caravan up your a**e.  :D

Looked at another Veloster Turbo at a dealer tonight which appeared to have the switch to turn off the reversing sensors.....as to why they did not add it to the i30 I have no idea! 😒
