Title: It's a Lottery

One of our son's in law is a department manager in a large supermarket. He is not happy with his job and for a year or two has been trying to get a job elsewhere.

Yesterday was his birthday and his staff all chipped in a pound or so and gave him a birthday card and 10 lottery scratch cards as a birthday present. During his break he worked his way through the scratch cards and was shocked to find that one of them was for a win of £50,000. He spent the next 10 minutes in total shock showing the card to his staff and some customers to get them to assure him that it really was a prize of £50,000.

This was an opportunity too good to miss so he headed off to see his general manager to hand in his resignation and tell him what he thought of him and the company. It was not going to be complimentary. Fortunately, one of his staff intercepted him to tell him to hold fire - the scratch card was not real but a joke one they had slipped in with 9 genuine cards. When he looked closely at the card - in very tiny print under the lottery logo - it did say "This card is not genuine" or words to that effect.

When we saw him today he was still unable to see the funny side - but our daughter was revelling in it. He is always playing jokes on other people and this time the joke is very much on him......... :rofl:

A proper ruse would have been to let the manager in on the prank and let the guy go see him, to see how far he went with his non-complimentary departing speech.


Perhaps not such a good idea. Scratch that.

That had the potential to be totally disasterous and not very funny IMO. You could make a legal case of it here in Oz, employers have an obligation to ensure a safe STRESS FREE environment.  :disapp:

It would be disppointing thinking you had won then to find out you hadn't.  :disapp:

He could now sue for "scratch off" finger syndrome.

Great story and great to see your daughter enjoyed it.
So how did she top that birthday present. 
On the other hand better not say as it might lead to a "Judge Judy" show  :snigger:
