Yes I believe it is useful to have a deterrent inside the car.

Can you post instructions Yosoypepo?

Thanks mate

yes, it's easy.

you must to found in this area two positive wires.

(http://www.postimage.org/Pq22qokJ.jpg) (http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=Pq22qokJ)
one positive always and another one that always works only with the contact given.

we need a relay like this (12v)

and make this way
(http://www.postimage.org/aV1Php6r.jpg) (http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=aV1Php6r)

you can put the flashing leds anywhere. The relays I got inside the door panel.

That is excellent YOSOYPEPO, thanks very much for posting the details

The flashing LED... does it have to be a 12v LED as that's what would be coming from the relay?

;) are you going to try to do it?

are you going to try to do it?
I might.

I would put a single LED on the dashboard, probably near the radio. It would be a blue LED and I would try to locate the power line that is active once the alarm has been set, if possible.

Maybe something like this (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Blue-Chrome-Flashing-Car-Home-Burglar-Alarm-Warning-LED_W0QQitemZ170280731843QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item170280731843&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1301|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318) (eBay)

nice buy.
one thing. I tracked the fuse of the alarm, but before the system is that the active so the fuse is always running and we were not used to this mod.

if you find the alarm power line post it please

YOSOYPEPO,
Did you install this mod because your car does not have a factory fitted anti theft device?

My car is insured for theft, has deadlocks and will not start without the progameable key.

Always nice to have a visible deterrent I reckon, which is why I eBayed a blue flashing LED. A great idea by our young Spanish friend PEPO

what about an alternate flashing

with 2 leds in the same casing... how would I find a relay that does that for me? I know it's probably not practical, might not even look realistic, but it'll look cool to me, and that's what counts

I would use 555 timer chip, it's used mostly for led blinking. you can create a circuit smaller than a clicking relay

The LED I bought has internal flashing circuitry (2hz)
question is, how do I ensure that the red one flashes on while the blue one is off, and vice versa. Either I can work out to set a delay on one of them so they alternate on their separate timers (which I don't know how to do), or I set a new flashing circuitry up and I connect two plain LEDs. Unless there's another option?

How will this led work in the car, is it going to blink when the cars off, if so I hope you have better luck than me finding a 12V high current wire when the car's off  :'(

I'll be fitting the cathode to a permanent +ve, with the anode to the +ve that loses power to the radio when the key is removed. That means the -ve will be provided via the residual earth through the radio when the key is removed. Hopefully.

is it ok to put 12V over the led? usually a resistor is necessary to get the right voltage over the led.

here's a led circuit calculator: http://led.linear1.org/1led.wiz

I've got an idea - I think I'll be dismantling some old Christmas lights (or maybe buy some post-Xmas-sale ones for $10-20) and re-engineering the circuit to work off the car battery and with only 2 LED diodes. Problem solved.

Saw this in ebay:
Blue and Red Car Auto LED flashing Lights

Unfortunately, not so lucky, completely different to what I want :(

I wouldn't rely on that working, the chances are pretty slim. What I would do is connect a small relay (only needs to be able to switch about 50mA) to the switched 12V that goes on an off with the ignition, while the NC connection goes to permanent 12V. The common would then go to a resistor if the particular LED you have needs it (there are LED's that have flashing circuits and run direct off 12V) then to the LED and ground as per the attached schematic.

When the ignition is on, the relay pulls in, disconnecting the power to the LED. When off, the LED is powered.

I think I'm going to have to find an online reader called "electronic circuit jargon and schematics for dummy's". I've found some great schematics for how to create these circuits, but buggered if I know what a "K1" is or a "CM1-P" :S

Ignore the desgination on the relay. I threw the circuit schematic together with the help of the Eagle schematic editor (http://www.cadsoftusa.com/) and just used one of their pre-canned components to illustrate the circuit.

 still doesn't help me work out the other circuits I found :D - I found one specifically for creating alternating flashing leds.

Blinks at 2Hz when the key is removed. The two wires I chose were on the hazard warning light button. One is permanent +12v while the other drops to 0v when the key is out, rising to +12v when the aux key position is selected (meaning there is no potential across the LED, so it goes out) :D
