A bit of a rant, by Tim Edwards:
As a cruel trick on myself, about a month ago I installed Windows 8 on my main PC to see what it was like.
The answer is: abysmal.
I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say that Windows 8 is the worst computing experience I’ve ever had. As a desktop operating system, it’s annoying, frustrating, irritating, and baffling to use. I’ve tried on many occasions to explain exactly why it’s so awful to use day-to-day, and most of the time, smoke starts pouring out of my ears. I thought it would be better to get down exactly what the issues are and why you should avoid it.

Windows 8 comes out in just under two months - it’ll be available from October 16th. You should not buy it.

So the bloke - who judges a system mainly on its suitability to play stupid games - has found a few minor glitches. Big deal.
I bet there are countless people just itching to get their hands on the new Windows experience so they can wrestle with its quirks, fight the good fight and eventually derive huge satisfaction by actually getting their computer to work after a fashion.
We all need challenges in life to keep us young and active - can't this moron see that Microsoft have yet again given us an opportunity to prove to ourselves and others that we are capable of great things. They did this with Windows ME - since which XP, Vista and Windows 7 have been pussy cats - at last they have again provided computer geeks with something we can get our teeth into.
The only downside I can see is that Google will be the main beneficiary with google search being swamped with questions and answers about Windows 8.

Criticising Microsoft is always easy.
Although I'm a Linux & Open Source user myself, I think commentators should consider, that Microsoft has a much harder job than it's competitors. They have to satisfy a wide range of different consumer and business necessities and can't only focus on some special gorup of nerds, hipsters, or, like Apple, sectarians who adopt to everything they're told it's their need...
And noone is forced to change to windows 8. Other than some competitors, Microsoft will support Windows 7 for more than two years after it's release ;)

A tablet, phone or PC's are vastly different to each other, yet all trying to do the same job. I buy a phone to be a phone, I've used a tablet but don't like em much and like my pc's the best. MS should market os's that fit the device & forget trying to continually force current popular trend preferences between each device IMHO :fum:

My tought is: Windows 8 isn't made for the classic desktop PC (which I prefer too at the actual state of development). It is made for a future generation of hardware. Tablets with powerful hardware (like the better of those Surface tablet models seem to have) that can be used as "touch devices" on the way or on the couch (metro UI) but also can be docked to a big display and a keyboard & mouse input at the desk at home or in the office (classic UI).
Then you really would have an additional value because you'd have one device for all your data and all purposes instead of three or four (laptops could also be covered) devices.
But for the current tablets with their baby-hardware it certainly makes no sense to be brought together with a desktop pc os, that's correct.
