Title: Nuvi Dashboard Mount
Post by: AlanHo on August 30, 2012, 13:48:37
Garmin Portable Friction Mount (new type) - 010-11280-00

My neighbour bought one of these new Garmin dashboard mounts because he didn’t want to use a windscreen sucker - or like me – an adhesive backed disc stuck to the dashboard.

I was a bit cynical about how it would work so he took me for a spin in his car. He is an ex-test driver for a car company and whilst we didn’t actually do a spin – it seemed might close at times. I was quite impressed to find how stable the mount is and how it stays in place despite heavy braking and rather wild cornering.

The secret is that is quite heavy – 300 gms – is semi flexible so can be moulded to the shape of the dash and the base is covered with a strange plastic which feels sticky – but is not an adhesive but a high friction material.

I have a disc mounted in my i30 so don’t need one for that -  but we go abroad 3 or 4 times a year and I always hire a car and take my Nuvi with me. This mount is ideal for use abroad because it will fit any car and leaves no evidence behind – so I have bought one. It will get its first use at the end of September when we go to Portugal for 12 days.

These photos were taken in my car with the mount dropped over my dashboard disc – hence the gap at the bottom is not typical.

I would highly recommend this mount to anyone who wants to get away from windscreen sucker marks and is reluctant to use an adhesive backed disc.

Do they do Navman too?

It is made by Garmin - so I doubt it.

Do Navman use the same diameter ball fixing?
