Hey Cam ... You seem to love the back of your car :P

Hey Cam ... You seem to love the back of your car :P
Hehe..
There was no use taking photos from the front in that pic. All you would have seen were the public toilets behind me...lol!
I thought a more pleasing site was the land + sky
-
Hey Cam,
Nice pic.
The large TV monitor on the roof looks like a good mod too.
Russ
-
Lol!
I only just noticed that

Russ
Good point Russ,
It would be good for cars traveling behind Cams i30. They can watch movies or keep up with the cricket scores
-
It's the new sat nav screen for i30's
-
My new rims
(http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee287/camerooney/bg_DC5_DARKGREYi30.jpg)
:D
....well the ones I'm looking at putting on.
Just waiting on a price.
-
Very nice Cam,
What size you thinking of?
-
Thanks Eyma
:)
Looking at 17's
Here it is:

It was the only one that really stood out when I was browsing through the range on Tempe Tyres...lol
-
I agree Cam, They are nice. I particularly think the would suit a white model. The grey rims are good to because they hide the dirt and brake dust better than chrome or silver rims. Hopefully you will have them on in time for the blue mountain meet :D
-
All these people with or getting great rims make me so jealous. They're gunna look good Cam.
-
black rims on white car =
-
Thanks Guys.
Well they have them in stock. I'm just waiting to arrange payment and delivery
:D :D
-
Ordered, paid and they will be here by the end of the week.. woohoo!
 :D
They bundle with the Kumho Ecsta KU31
http://www.tempetyres.com.au/products_closeup.asp?part=&part_no=570
Which looks like a really decent tyre.
Going off the comparable competitor products I think they should be quite good!
-
Good news Cam. :D
Shes going to look hot
Next thing you need to do is lower it :D
-
Hehe...
I dont think I'll be lowering it anytime soon (well maybe in photoshop ).
My gutters are ridiculously steep...lol
I sometimes scrape going out on an angle at the moment!
-
Nice Choice Cam... Sorry for the delay in commenting been busy with organizing our new house ... :P
-
No worries Dazz.
Hopefully I'll have real pics tomorrow
:D
-
Here are the new pics!!
Just put them on then

One word Cam...FANTASTIC :D
Gee there is some good looking i30 getting around town Isn't there. :Lil: Looking forward to seeing it in the flesh on the Blue mountain trip
-
Just logged on and there they were.. look great...
By the way what do your parents think of how your car goes...(considering they have a golf..) and also what do your young friends think are they impressed???
-
Thanks Eyma!
I'm looking forward to the trip (at this stage I'm still clear and if nothing comes up for work I should be right)
Cheers Dazz.
Parents really like the car. Like how it drives, its looks and the interior.
As far as power and handling, the GT Sport golf far surpasses the i30.
I think it has roughly 355nm of torque. As you can imagine, it bloody goes...lol!
But the i30 can hold its own easily in comparison as far as passengers, luggage and hills are concerned.
:D
-
Hi again Cam is the GT sport golf a Turbo diesel or a V6? (not familiar with that model)
-
Its a Turbo Diesel.
http://www.volkswagen.com.au/vwcms/master_public/virtualmaster/en_au/New_Cars/golf/trim_lines/golf_gtsport.html
They have a 1.4TSI twin charged petrol also.
:)
-
Nice but you pay for the privilege!
-
Yeah you certainly do.
:D
The sunroof is nice though.
I might consider getting one fitted for mine.
-
Nice idea cam but the price of the sunroof might make you think twice. I would be guessing $2500.
-
Yeah thats the only downside.
I'll have to wait and see.
It would be lovely, but as you say, very pricey.
-
great looking car you got there :D
-
For that sort of money, I would rather a body kit. I dont think I will put one on mine as it is lowered and almost scrapes going over speed humps and down drive ways now. have you considered the body kit though Cam?
-
Cam
The alloys look really great!
A question regarding the side protectors. Do they extend out further than, what I like to call, the 'swoosh' along the side of the doors? That is, are they effective, or are they just show?
-

$2k is the best one on offer at that Melbourne joint, who from all reports do a good job. That's for full electric, retracts invisibly into the roof and a nice sliding cover made of your internal material.
If you want just the open-shut glass with 5% tint on it, you can get it for $1-1.5k, it just depends what you want.
But yes - you can get a body kit self-imported from Korea for <$1k including shipping (but not customs, don't know what customs costs are yet)

The side protectors jut out just far enough that if someone parks next to you and opens their door onto your car, the protector should absorb their door and you won't get a red paint mark on yours.
-
I did consider the bodykit, but I live in a culdersac and the gutters are really high. I sometimes scrape a little bit going out now (on an angle)
So I think the bodykit would have a hard time. Its not so much the speedhumps that concern me, its primarily the gutters
:)

Thanks Mick.
The side protectors extend a reasonable way from the door. They definitely do provide protection. I had just parked in the carpark at work on a nice neat end spot the other day, a company car (with contractors in it) parked next to me and swung their doors out. This bit** hit the side of my car. Not too hard and luckily it didnt leave any damage, but the protectors stopped it from happening.
I'll try and take a closer pic from the side to give you some perspective of how far the protectors sit out.
They're brilliant though, they look good and they do their job.
:)

Thanks for that. I thought I'd read somewhere that they weren't very effective so I was having doubts as to whether I'd get them.

No worries.
I guess it depends on the height of the car thats opening the door (and ofcourse position)
It was just lucky that she opened the door on the protector and not the paint!
I wouldnt have been happy...lol
Anyways, I know how much we all love our i30 pics so I just snapped a couple more. These were taken about 15mins ago (nice sunny day finally! its been raining here all week)

keeps getting better cam...nice wheels:)
-
Nice Pix and Nice car Cam.. You're a lucky boy
-
Nice house & neighbourhood too. Wish I didn't live in an industrialised city
-
I am a lucky boy Dazz

Thanks Shambles.
Its a nice area, the only downside is the huge starch plant a couple of km's away.
Everyone adjusts to it, but the smell can be a bit overpowering over the first month or two. That and there is a lot of fallout
But there are downsides to every upside....right?
I'm 15mins away from the beach and a little place called Gerringong.
http://www.gerringong-gerroa.com/photo-gallery.htm
There is some spectacular scenery around. I'll try and take some photos today...
The sun has just disappeared but it'll come back out hopefully
:D
-
Thanks Shambles.

Go on. Rub my nose in it :P :P :P

I'm 15mins away from the beach
I'm 2 minutes from the beach but not the best of places to visit today. Temp 0C
-
I'm a couple of minutes away from the beach too, todays temp -2C.
Aberdeen is a curious place, twenty miles into the North Sea and we have oil rigs with tannoys telling the workers to be careful cos they won't last for minutes if they fell in, even in midsummer, yet back on the beach there are mothers telling their kids to stop being such big jessies and get in for a swim
-
Hehe...
That water must be bloody cold!
I'm such a wuss.
I dont think I could cope with such cold temps....lol
How long has it been since you saw the sun?

-
Actually we see the sun a lot in this corner, probably more than some of my English compatriots because I am East of the "join" between the North Winds and the Gulf Stream. The West Coast is warmer but sees a hell of a lot more rain. We tend to get frosty, bright weather, I guess similar to Hemmi.

yes, I guess we have similar weather, but colder, I live on the South West Iceland. there where clear skies yesterday, new fallen snow and the sun barely peaked above horizon, got coldest about -10°C, brrrrr. Now wind is starting to blow from south, that means warm air and probably raining, or wet snow. Winter here can be from -10° to +10°, It's colder in New York and Moscow in winter, although they're more south than Reykjavik.
-
Hi Cam
How much were those door protectors.?? Theylook very nice.
-
How long has it been since you saw the sun?
Where I live the sun shines nearly every day BUT no heat from it.
It lies very low in the sky so doesn't heat the air and burn off the mist/fog/frost.
Shortest daylight hours on the 21 December.
-
can't wait for summer :D about 5 more months :'(
-
Its a completely different world...lol
We have usually 35-40c christmas days, and you've got snow!
Although I think the last two christmas days in NSW have been raining for me.
-
Put the new replacement tyres.
They're still the same rim, but instead of the 225/45/17 they have 205/50/17's on them. The Michelin Pilot Sport's are an excellent tyre.
Too early to tell at this stage how the road noise is (they've only done about 20km) but they're more directional than the Kumho Ecsta's.
Here are some more pics: :D

some fine vehicle you got there :D
-
looking good Cam,
Glad you were able to sort the issue with the tyres

That's you're story!
I think you're heading behind that tree for a :-[
-
Thanks Eyma + Hemmi
:)
I'm glad it was all sorted out before christmas!
I havent had passengers in the back yet so not 100% sure whether or not its still going to scrape.
But it shouldnt. The tyres sit in quite a way from the guard.
eye:
-
Hi Cam thanks for the pix - did you get the suspension sorted?
P.S. I'm a bit of a Michelin fan so interested in your feedback going forward
-
Thanks Dazz.
The car went in on Friday and they looked at the suspension. They did note that the suspension wasn't quite right but they didnt say they looked at anything. However, there is no clunking any more and it doesnt appear to be as bouncy as it was. Not going over rough roads or out of the driveway...I'll keep an eye out on it. If it starts to play up I'll tell them again.
:)
The michelins are wonderful.
I've only done about 70km's on them now, but they handle brilliantly.
Road noise is starting to quieten down. When we put them on, they were a bit noisy at first. But seeing as they're directional tyres I'm thinking they might need to wear in a little?
-
Sounds like it's sorted then - that's good.. :D
I had Michelins on a couple of my previous cars (I like Pirelli also) At my current rate I'll need new tyres about this time next year and would consider going to about A$180 a tyre to get something reasonable (at 16")
From looking at Junk mail the last few months cheapies in my size are around $125-$130 and middle of the range around $150-$160. I'm sure you could easily spend $300 plus for some performance tyres though.
-
The Michelin Pilot sport (according to the fella at tempe) were priced at around $400 a tyre for the 17's.
Not cheap..
The 18's are even worse though!
I think you need to add another $200 to the above price.
The kumho ecstas were good, and if you can get those in 16's (with the correct fitments) they would be a fantastic tyre!
I was very happy with them, only downside being that the ecstas in 17's are a BIG tyre. They would be fine in 16's though I think.
:D
