Title: Dashmat and floor mats
Post by: Pikapolonica on December 09, 2008, 23:37:13
Does anyone have one of these?  Just wondering how one looks, considering the huge area of the passenger side airbag.

I would like one to protect the dash and to prevent vinyl vapour on the windscreen.

I'll most likely get one at Autobarn, as I assume they'll be much cheaper than what Hyundai will ask, same with the floor mats.  How much do they charge anyway?  I found a pair on eBay for $75 plus $15 postage.

Dunno about the dash mat... there is a thread here somewhere... it needs to know about the little dome in the centre near the windscreen... aircon sensor I think.

Mats come as 4 not 2 and the genuine ones are excellent.  I paid $95 from memory pickup so your find assuming they are genuine sounds good to me.

Not sure if non-genuine mats and dash mas are available. It usually takes some time before they become available in new models. If you cant get i30 mats/dash mat, try looking for Elentra sets as these should be interchangeable.  :)

I think there are after market mats available for the i30 that are made in WA.  From what I can determine they are good quality and about the same price as the genuine.  Only difference is that the rear mat is one piece and fits across the back of the car over the hump in the floor.  They even have i30 logos embossed on the mats.  I have seen them advertised on eBay from time to time.

Def want to get a dashmat as I don't want to be constantly cleaning the windows from vinyl vapour.

I dont have a dash mat and have not had a problem with vapour forming on the windsreen.
It seems to be a higher class of plastic used and doesnt seem to produce the vapour you speak of, Maybe a little when new, but not fo long.

I got the dash mat, floor mats and the cargo mat for the boot all included in the price of the car.  The dash mat is rather odd looking, as there is still quite a large area of the dash exposed - seeing as how the passenger air bag thingy is so big, and also the storage bin on top of the dash.  The floor mats are nice, with the i30 logo on them - mine are already covered in red dust  :-[  I've kind of forgotten how to post pics, but we'll see how we go.

Where did you get your dash mat from Darryl?  I would rather have a dash mat like yours, especially up here where it is so bloody hot!  I'm a bit worried about having so much of the dash exposed.  Hyundai ripped me $120 for that dash mat and it is only half there!

Could someone explain how the Hyundai i30 carpet floor mats (at least the driver's side one) is connected to the floor so it doesn't move?  I see the carpet floor mat itself has a couple of eyelets but are the holes/connectors already in the floor of the car?

Also, does anyone know if the universal floor mats have the eyelets?

I would even be happy to consider the cheap rubber mats however I always seem to have issue with the driver's mat moving about.  Anyone else experience any issues or can recommend a way around this?

Cheers!

I want Genuine Hyi30 floor mats - but tell me - why is there a hole to lock them down with when we have no locks in the car? Do you have to buy your own locks? Anyone done this? I haven't looked very far...

Wow - nice post Zef - you read my mind!

And yes, my mat on driver side moves like crazy, is annoying as hell, and I zap people whenever I go through drive-thru or cash toll booths (eg the M4)

Scared a girl half to death when I grabbed my Super Size Coke earlier this evening!

The official UK mats come with locking screws, you have to screw them into the carpet and they bite (creating a hole ), then the eyelets go over the top and a half turn locks them so that they cannot escape the screw.

Thanks for your reply.  So you're actually making a hole in the carpet of the car itself correct?  I guess that's ok provided the hole doesn't become bigger over time.

Yes you are making two holes in the carpet, both at the drivers side, the passenger side does not have the eyelets.  The screws have an OD of about 7.5mm so they are chunky enough I think to not wear the hole bigger.

Having said that they seem to have an almost velcro like backing so the screws are not really that necessary, I think you would struggle to get the mats to move around and get in the way of the pedals.

Ah ok, I guess in that case I would try them without securing and if I had difficulties I would look at the connectors.

Thanks again!   :)

I've got these mats but as I didn't want the hole they are just loose.

On mine only the drivers mat has the fixing.

The drivers mat does move, but very slightly, but does not "ride up" but I'd rather have that than a hole.

Hi Mel,

The Dashmat is Sunland brand I think. I got it on special order from Autobarn for A$50 when i30's were still fairly rare... Think Autobarn and Supercheap would probably carry them as a stock item now...

I am the worlds worst at kicking mats around but since I started using the genuine Hyundai Mats with hooks screwed into the carpet ..no probs..

I'm going to pop down to Autopro this afternoon and get them to order me a Sunland dash mat.  From what I can see it is twice as much dash mat for less than half the price.  Don't be surprised to see a genuine i30 dash mat appear on ebay!  I will have to get the Sunland one ordered in, as our Autopro is quite usless as far as carrying much stock goes.  They didn't even have diesel injector cleaner a few weeks ago.  Not bad for the only auto parts shop in a town full of diesel vehicles.

My mother got me the full dashmat and floor mats for Christmas.  Not sure where she bought them, but I know not Hyundai.  I haven't needed to screw in the mats as the backing is sticky enough so it doesn't slide around.

My local Autopro of course didn't have an i30 dashmat, not that I expected that they would.  There are, at most, 10 dash mats on the rack.  Price: $75.50 each!!!  I asked them to get me a price for one for an i30, still waiting.  I wouldn't buy it anyway, just on principle.  In the meantime I have contacted Auto1 in Cannington, Perth.  They were more than helpful.  The lady said she would order one for me and I could pick it up when we are in Perth later this month.  This morning they rang back and said they can get a Chevron one, but it has a ridge in it.  I said I would prefer the Sunland.  Apparently Sunland are a little slow getting orders out, but if it is not in by the time we are due to leave Perth, Auto1 will post it for $5.50.  Still cheaper than buying it here.
