The U.S. dollar plummeted on the news, then shot up again.
It doesn't take much to spook the market.
Last night's fall wasn't so much to do with Obama, but more to do with Germany's comments that they are no longer in great financial shape, thereby spooking the market because if Germany was to fail, Europe would collapse.
It'll be up again before too long, no doubt....
Plus, the U.S. fiscal cliff is now more to the fore because neither side wanted to talk about it during the electoral campaign.
Now they are facing a new debt ceiling deadline but they will work it out.  :)
They need bi-partisan support to get it through Congress.

Yeah. Saner heads seem to have prevailed. US market dropped 312 points
Our local only dropped 30, recovering from more than 50 just after opening.

The little Aussie battler (ASX200) is quite amazing if you look at a long-term chart.
There have been some big pull-backs, but the trend is certainly up.

With the amount I have in Super that is a comforting thought  :sweating:

I got screwed by super.
I was always told it was a fantastic investment but given my time again I would not be in it because whichever govt is in power, it can change the rules pretty much whenever it likes.
I was sitting pretty, paid into super since age 19, set to retire at 55.
Then I stupidly got injured at work during a high speed pursuit chasing one of our prolific car thieves and then reality hit because I found out that suoerannuation is useless.
I lost one third of everything I had ever saved for and it went straight into Gilliard's & Swan's coffers and bad luck me. Becaue I wasn't aged 55 so normal tax rates applied - no concessions.
Police in this state have zero worker's compensation so I am even paying my own ongoing medical bills.
Just pure bad luck. Any other profession would be covered. We are not. No state govt has ever wanted to take it on and pay the insurance premiums for police worker's comp due to the high premiums (dangerous nature of the work).
I paid the price for that and lost heaps.
So instead of super, what I should have done over that 30 years, was buy 10 or 12 houses instead and given my time over, that is what I would do.
As it was, I had three, but had to sell two.
Gee, thanks govt. I was only doing my job.......

There's still plenty of doh to be made if you know where to look.

That's why I've spent the past five years learning how to trade - a learning curve which will never end, hopefully.  ;)

Thanks Dazz, but unfortunately true.
But I'm young enough to do it all again  :D and look forward to the challenge.
This time, hopefully I'll know what I'm doing.
