for what it's worth, thought I'd share my experience of the diesel economy.
I was not expecting published figures when I bought the car-second hand, 26,000 miles, 2011. However, I did theoretically discount the published 62.8 mpg by 10% and then round down-resulting in a 56 target figure.
When I first took over the car I appeared to be achieving this-by driving as economically as I could (and with the occasional bit of coasting!)
But it was a bit boring-for as many of you say, the diesel does cry out to be driven. I had an old MX 5 so could exorcise some of that.
Having sold the MX5, I began to drive a bit more actively, and the mpg drifted down to between 51 and 52.
What I now do is drive economically for 50% of the time and a bit less so for the remainder.
The results now are that the mpg is between 53 and 54.5. Can't get back to 56 even if I try-but then the car has done 56,000 so is not in the first flush of youth-as is not it's driver!

Interesting feedback John.. Those would still be pleasing figures for most folk :goodjob:
I wouldn't think the mileage would have a detrimental effect on the Economy (Quite the reverse)

The higher my previous one got, the more economical it got.
At around 130,000 kms it was consistently giving 1,000 + kms per tank.

Diesels wont even start to wear out this side of 100,000. even at 200k (providing they are serviced well) they go strong.

Yes, that's because the fuel they burn is oil, not a solvent, like petrol. Diesels usually have very long lives. :goodjob2:

My 2010 1.6 CRDI manual averaged 49.01 mpg oner my 18 month ownership and 13000 miles.
My present car - a 2012 1.6 CRDi has averaged 54.7 mpg over its first 9,500 miles
These figures are calculated from total fuel purchased and total odometer miles with an allowance for odometer error (measured agains my sat-nav and motorway mileage posts).

I'm still getting about 60 mpg average on my '09 CRDI after the 4th service with 46k miles on the clock and a 'grippier' set of tyres.
