Title: Amazon Logistics
Post by: AlanHo on January 02, 2013, 15:29:56
Have you ever wondered how Amazon and similar large Internet sellers warehouse stuff, find it for each buyer's order, pack and despatch it - often on 24 hour delivery.

The secret is chaos storage.

Wonder no more - watch this...

Seems weird to me not having the same stuff together.. we scan our items in and out at RR but they are general kept together (except for the display sample) We stock take every 2 weeks  :undecided:

My natural inclination would be to store stuff in some logical order with like items adjacent to each other. However - having watched the video - I can now see the logic in random placement when it is all so well computerised. There is less chance of picking the wrong item and shelf space can be more efficiently utilised.
