Title: Radio Reception
Post by: psychonurse on January 02, 2009, 18:01:00
Hi everyone
I've noticed a problem with my radio reception. It's been really cold here (Liverpool, UK) recently and when I have set off for work early morning when the temperature has been between -2 and -3 degrees I haven't been able to get my radio to work.
I was wondering if anyone else had experienced this?
Apart from that I love the car
Cheers
Steve

Hi psychonurse :)

I've not had this problem at all and I'm in the same part of the country.

Do you get nothing at all from any band (FM/AM) ? Not even a crackle? Is there anything on the display?

PS, what model i30 do you own?

Hi psycho

I have had temps as low as -8C up here and no problem with reception.  Have you at any point had the ariel off its mount on the roof of the car.  If so there may have been a small build up of moisture which is trapped and is freezing at low temps affecting the connection.

Failing that perhaps it has something to do with the great digital switchover, however that is a long shot since Steve(Shambles) is not reporting any problems.

Hi Shambles
I've got a 1.6 premium. I don't even get a crackle but the display is fine. There's just no sound.
I've had a couple of minor problems e.g. the grear knob had to be replaced as the silver bit came loose and the bonnet kept coming undone.
Hope I haven't got a duff model
It's due it's first 12000 mile service in about a month and I only got it in June, so generally its doing ok
Cheers
Steve

Welcome psychonurse.

Does the name reflect your job

Do you follow the reds or the blues??

No probs with my radio and reception and I'm just across the water from you.

PS check that your ariel is fully home in its housing as I found that although mine looked secure it was slightly loose and needed an extra turn.

What's this. Fancy suggesting that those who contribute to this site are in need of care from a Mentah Health Professional.

I represent that aspersion on my state of mind. :P

Now I will be in trouble for being Off Topic.

PS Welcome psychonurse. This crazy bunch can be good fun and a lot of help. They keep me sane (almost)

I'll try that with the ariel. I had it out for the car wash but was working after the wash.

... it worked while the water in the bottom wasn't frozen, when it is frozen it's probably lifting the aerial off the connection... Inspector 'Bumpkin' Holmes has probably hit the nail on its head. Elementary, my dear Watson.
