Title: Help - Map Light
Post by: freeasabird on January 21, 2013, 22:35:42
Can some-one please tell me where the interior/map light is and where it is turned on, in my new 2012 i30 Active.   According to the manual it should be on the ceiling  between the sun-visors.  The ceiling is just blank there in my car.  Did they forget to fit them  :blubber: :whistler: :scared:
Cheers

The map reading lights and sunglass holder are only fitted to the Style model.  As defined in the i30 brochure.

Unfortunately the owners manual covers all variants and cannot be relied upon to indicate which features apply to specific models.

Thanks Alan.   Does that mean there is no light by which one can read, look in my handbag etc,
in the front of the car?

You can buy a light as an accessory - it's called a torch unfortunately.......... :whistler:

This doesn't seem quite right to me, unless of course the Active is different in the U.K. which is possible.
But it seems odd that Hyundai would sell a car with no interior light....?  :undecided:
I own an Active too and the lights are on the roof in between the sun visors.
These act both as an interior lamp that operates when the doors are open, plus separate left and right hand side lights that can be operated individually.
freeasabird, is there any chance of a photo of the area in your car that we're talking about?
As Alan has pointed out that the U.K. Active doesn't have the sunglasses hoilder/light combination, surely they would then fit a centre dome light?

And mine has both the centre dome light AND the map lights.

There is one interior light in the roof above the rear seats which comes on when the door opens.    This is too far back in the car to be able to see well enough to look at a map etc.  The space between the sun visors is just plain roof...nothing there at all.

OK, so you do have the centre one though.
Just U.K. spec as Alan said then, I'm afraid.
Come to think of it, I think mention was made on the forum some time ago of whether or not it would be possible to have those items fitted by a dealership, but I don't know the outcome.

Leaving out bits like that would not be a significant cost saving (I would imagine) so guess it's just to differentiate between models. What they decide to leave out is interesting though. "Do you want door handles with that madam?"

the globe inside this unit can be replaced with another globe to give you more light or replace the globe with a LED unit that can give a lot of light out and use less power.......

Sorry to correct you Alan, but this was part of the mid 2012 changes they made.

Up until around Sept 2012, Alan is correct, Style model only. After Sept 2012, all models had the map lights & sunglasses holder.

Out of the five Actives we ordered, three came with the The map lights / sunglasses holder, two without.

The only other change I have found (so far), is the DLRs. The early ones go off with the sidelights. The later ones stay on with sidelights, but then go off with the headlights.

HTH.

No as it is not part of the speci for the Active.............. However, I had this in my previous i30 comfort 2007 model.

Not long after buying my Active, May 2012, I received a questionnaire asking for my buying experience etc.

I commented that the only internal light is in the centre of the roof behind the driver so illuminates the rear but lighting is poor in the front.

I mentioned that on my previous i30 I had a Map light/sunglasses holder in the front and asked whether this could be fitted retrospectively.

I didn't get a reply to my questionnaire.
After contacting them twice asking for their comments they replied by saying they had passed my comments to the Production Team who will refer it to Korea and will contact me when they get a response.....

That was last October and I'm still waiting for a reply......

That's in the U.K. Rick.
In Australia all model variants get the lights/sunglasses holder.

The brochure I was given when buying my 9 month old model stated that the Classic had the map lights and sunglasses holder.  It also stated that the Active had all the Classic specification plus more.   However innvery small print it stated that the full specification wasn't available until July 2012   All the ones at my local dealership which were registered before July 2012 are without the map light/sunglasses holder.  However I am waiting to see what I am offered in way of a front interior light.  Not a happy bunny so far. :(

Remember, I raised this via the feedback re purchase experience and also followed up direct with the MD when they didn't repond.

I got a reply that they had to refer this to Korea and they would get back in touch.

I'm still waiting .....................................................

Is that like when your water feature runs dry and you have to stick the hose in there?  :undecided:

I am currently in an argument with my local dealer about this. He says mine i30 was built before July (I bought it last month), but I point out that he assured me the only deviation from spec was the "knee airbag" for which I paid extra.

Is there a way to tell which month my car was built?

If it's the same as in Australia, I think you'll find the "built" plate on the "B" pillar....passenger side.  :undecided:

I am afraid I haven't been on here for ages.  My dealership agreed to fit a map light to my car (registered April 2012). They got the part in, the car went in to have it fitted but the job couldn't be done because there was no strengthening on the roof panel.   So no map light, but to be honest I haven't found the need for it yet.
