Being quite warm last night I decided to jump on my brother's Suzuki Burgman with the intention of going for a quick ride to basically cool off a bit.
Well, somehow I ended up going into Hobart and then down to Kingston, Margate, Snug and Oyster Cove then across to Cygnet and Huonville and then arrived back in Glenorchy, some 130 k's later.
Being late in the day it was probably a bit of a silly thing to do, with the chances of coming across some of Tassie's wildlife highly likely, especially the "magic" section between Oyster Cove and Cygnet.....
But the road gods must of been looking after me as the only wildlife I saw were the squished remains of pademelons regularly smeared on the bitumen....
I arrived in Cygnet around 8.30pm and briefly thought about giving Jamie (Fatboy) a call to see if he was home but decided it was probably a bit late so I continued on my merry way.
Not having intended going for a long ride I was keeping my eye on the fuel gauge, conscious that many Tasmanian petrol stations aren't open at night but I needn't have worried as there was fuel available in Huonville if I had needed to top up but after seeing how many k's it was back to Hobart I decided I didn't need to refuel after all.
I arrived home somewhere around 9.30pm with a huge grin on my face....ah, life's not so bad after all.... :goodjob: :happydance:

Good one Rusty. :goodjob2:
It's nice to clear the cobwebs (and head) out every so often.
-
Sounds lovely! I hope I get to see Tassie one day :)

:happydance: I'll put the kettle on..
Fatboy (Jamie) calls Tassie God's Country.. I'm not religious but I'd have to agree
Hey Rusty that's great.. Lovely part of Tassie where you went. Are you coming up again this weekend (I've got some more jobs to do*) :snigger:
* The ones I didn't do last weekend :winker:
-
* Cleaning deposits off the roof.

Woo! :happydance: Coffee please!
We looked at moving there a number of years back. Sadly it didn't work out and we decided to stick a bit closer to family (who are all in NSW).

You've got to admire a guy who returns a loaner completely empty of fuel

It wouldn't have been too late, Rusty. You're more than welcome to drop in for a cuppa.
BTW, I find that the animals are more active between Cygnet and Huonville, or a couple of them were before they met the Chubby Chariot.
I only call it Gods' country cos Dazz, Aaron and I live here. To quote Bill Murray, "I'm a god, not THE God."

Gotta watch out for pigs too. :D

There is a big fat spotty pet pig (without a uniform ) :snigger: That sometimes gets out and about near our house .. at least now our gates are automated we can close them if we see him coming :happydance:

So where are we driving to this time? :whistler:
Seriously though, I don't like my chances of coming up again this weekend, in fact I'm hoping I'll be allowed to go home soon.... :)
You've got to admire a guy who returns a loaner completely empty of fuel
'Tis ok, Steve...the fuel I used was what I'd put in it last December when I was last over here! :D
And besides, my brother isn't likely to be riding it any time soon seeing as he has no legs.... :whistler:

Cheers Jamie.....I'll try to give you some advance notice next time I'm down that way. :goodjob:
Every time I saw a dead pademelon I wondered if it had your name on it....

I was on my best behaviour, Dave.....I even obeyed the stupid trial speed limits they have down that neck of the woods.... :whistler:

One early morning while it was still dark (a few years ago) I met a wild boar on my walk and it is an experience I don't want to repeat.
Luckily, there was a flimsy fence between us, but he was huge and they are not very friendly.
Thankfully he took one look at me and ran off the other way. :sweating: :scared:
-
Rusty, That's a shame but I better do some jobs this weekend either way .. Got to get ready for the brick layer and concreter :happydance:
Steve.. It's not just free fuel he scored (you should see his sock draw now) :faint:

I can't believe you said that.

I draw the line at wearing his socks, Daz.....
I gotta have some standards.....even if they are pretty low as you very well know! :whistler:
-
Oh, and by the way, it's "drawer'..... :whistler:

A bush pig eh
-
That's right.
As I picked up my pencil and started to draw the drawer I had to shoo the cat away from my shoe.
-
Oh, and by the way, it's "drawer'..... :whistler:
What?? You've scored his drawers as well  (did they cut him off at the navel or something?)
P.S. I knew draw was spelt drawer I just did it fast and put the wrong one... :P :P

I love an evening ride.
Really clears the head.
Don't need to worry as much about wildlife as you do, although we have our fair share of creatures.
A buddy hit a Moose on his bike. Woke up in the Hospital lucky to be alive. The Moose wasn't so lucky.
Were buried under snow at the moment.
I'm missing riding.
-
You're right, it certainly does clear the head! :goodjob:
In fact I felt like a new woman after my ride...
I love riding at night and I even enjoy riding in the rain.....if I have the right gear!
I just wish I could ride more often..... :undecided:
Wow, hitting a moose! Sounds like he was a very lucky boy.....

Your car must be a very good swimmer, swimming from Vic to Tas! Or did God part the ocean water for you? :snigger:
-
I grew wings and flew over, Brighton... :D
Got a car and a bike at my disposal here so, as much as I love my i30, it just didn't make economic sense to bring it over.
-
Bugger,I'm jealous now,Sue won't let me have another Bike :( and it is one thing I would never ask to use someone else's ,even if it was just for ride around the block, but if we were to shift back to SA,Sue would let me have a bike of my choice :happydance:,so I gather I never get another bike :disapp:
-
C'mon Rick...who wears the
monkey suit trousers in your family? :whistler:
-
RN, I may wear the trousers, but I have no control, like the Little Johny joke, when he and little Sally are comparing private parts,Johny says "I have one of these, you don't" and Little Sally says"yeah but mum says all the time I have one of these between my legs,I can always get one of those and control whats on the end of it"
-
I wear the pants in my family, I wash and iron them too. She tells me what colour to wear though. :whistler:
-
And what colour would that be, Jamie? :whistler:
-

I'll just go and ask her, hang on.....

Well, I decided to go on another evening ride tonight..... :D
Again I ended up doing 130 something kilometres. This time though I headed out through Sorell and made my way down the Arthur Highway to Dunalley, scene of the recent devastating fires.
Again I probably pushed my luck as this road is pretty notorious for accidents and wildlife after dark but once again the road gods looked after me and the only "wildlife" I saw was a cat bolting across the road and the usual assorted mangled remains smeared into the bitumen.
It was quite a bit colder riding this time and by the time I got to Dunalley my old knees were getting quite numb with the cold and I was also wishing I'd put my jumper on before I'd headed off.
Luckily for me I'd chucked it into the huge under seat storage of the "Burgman" so I pulled over and put it on.
I then chucked a U turn and made my way back home.
Hooking through the bends on the way back with a car sitting behind me made me realise my eyes aren't as good as they used to be, and I ended up riding like an old woman, especially when I had to dip my lights with oncoming cars...
Thankfully traffic was light so I was able to make full use of the excellent high beam and mostly maintain a reasonable pace.
Riding through Sorell I fely my mobile phone buzzing in my pocket so quickly stopped to answer it. It was my brother who had arrived home after receiving dialysis and was wondering where I was. He was very surprised that I had chosen to go for a ride at that time of the day, and especially down to Dunalley knowing how bad the wildlife can be.....Oh well, I like to live dangerously...
Anyhow, all's good, I arrived home safely and after a couple of coffees my body has thawed and I'm looking forward to my next ride.....

Good one Rusty.. Too dark for Photos I suppose? :undecided: (Suppose not much left at Dunalley to photgraph anyway) :Pout:
-
Thanks Daz, yeah I did take the camera but decided I'd be wasting my time trying to take pics..... :(
-
It sounds like you're having some fun down there and creating a few memories.
God onya! :goodjob2:

I drove down to Port Arthur today so I took a few pics around Dunalley just for you, Daz..... :)
Mind you I felt like a bit of a voyeur while taking them so only took a few. :-[

Wow, so much sad :disapp:
