The Top Gear program on BBC TV last evening featured a road test by JC of the top of the range KIA Ceed 1.6 CRDi. It was a very favourable review and Clarkson was guilty of praising the looks, build quality, engine power and smoothness, fit and finish and equipment levels. There were the usual jocular comments on the way - but overall his report will have done KIA much good.
They currently use the old KIA Ceed for the celebrity lap times - and they compared the new car which knocked a couple of seconds off the lap. The new Ceed will be taking over for the next series of Top Gear.
Later in the program they tested the KIA Ceed to determine whether it would be a suitable vehicle to play Rugby with. They used the Twickenham rugby ground and fielded two teams of KIA cars comprising a mix of Ceed and Tucsons and a giant plastic rugby ball about 10 feet long. It was highly amusing - if you could overlook the fact that a dozen new KIA cars worth possibly £250,000 were being crashed and bashed by a bunch of petrolhead thugs and the hallowed Twickenham turf being converted into a ploughed field. Yet again - JC had nothing but praise for the performance of the cars and professed amazement at how tough they were. Another good plug for KIA.
Hyundai UK have a way to go before they are able to match KIA in subtle marketing techniques that catch the public eye here.

Thanks Alan very interesting :goodjob:
-
I found it highly amusing also - especially the goal conversions
I'd like to have seen that Mexican Mastretta MXT doing something similar ...
Back to subject, I couldn't help but think that the styling of the new Cee'd is inferior to that of the new i30, and I'm no fan of the GD

Recorded the programme last night so will catch up later today.

I recall Hy did a similar stunt with footballs...World Cup???

Ah, interesting, I knew you preferred the more conservative styling (as do I) but I have liked the later Kias very much for that reason. Do we have any pix?
-
The rugby thing was filmed last June when they were about to relay the pitch I think. I suppose they had to use a quarter of the programme to show it because it must have taken some organising, but I skipped through most. Great ad for Kia as the show is watched worldwide, I wonder if they slipped Clarkson a back-hander?

They could give him one for me if they like .. Pompous sod
-
I was suitably impressed with the parking feature and wished it was available in the i30 range (not that reverse parka are terribly difficult to do).
Having the two US actors in it was just good lulz.
-
Ok, now watched last nights programme.
From the back and side it just looks like the GD i30.
Ok the front is different but...........................................
And what's all the fuss about an eel in water in the boot............................ everyone knows they are best in jelly.
Auto Parking was spot on but isn't that only in the top model?
Wish JC was in the car which blew up :scared:
-
We all carry on a bit about JC - but I cannot imagine Top Gear without him. He is the charismatic guy we all enjoy hating.
-
JC is actually God on that program. Hey, even the initials...

Thanks rusty - the link works but it took 8 minutes to download on my 40Mpps cable connection.
I have now been able to watch the program all over again.

Supposed to be ADSL 2 but it can be very flaky (I'll try again tonight) :undecided:
-
That's what I thought you had.... :undecided:
Link is still working, by the way.... :)
-
Do you use FDM at all
-
I use IDM.... :)
Or were asking Daz?
-
Dazz actually, but I'm sure any DM would improve his download speed, mine said about 30 mins for the file he mentioned, but that was NOT using FDM. The supplied link won't work in FDM, not that I want that file particularly.
-
Got it today ok (in under 1 hour) :goodjob: I have a download manager but it didn't kick in for some reason.
-
Good to hear, Daz... :goodjob:

I downloaded it just to see how long it took. 30 minutes. Fair I guess since I was doing a bit of surfing at the same time.

Yes, a bit quicker than me. I live 3kms up a rural road and roughly 4KM from the Exchange :Pout:
-
Cable here so exchange distance irrelevant. Usually see about 15mb/s (bits) or so.

Do you know Trev? (Surferdude) :undecided:
