Title: FatBoy's Fishing Adventure
Post by: FatBoy on March 11, 2013, 11:34:55
So, Mrs FatBoy (I still don't call her FatGirl, I'm not that stupid) decided to go for a fish today in the Huon River (about 7 minutes from our place).  As the FatKids didn't want to come, we decided to leave them at home.  We have a little spot that is just about right for catching Flathead.

Anyhoos, we got set up, cast out and within 30 seconds I had my first fish.  In the 90 minutes we spent there we caught probably 20 fish (all Dusky Flatheads) of which we kept three.

A few points to remember:

1. Flathead are a fantastic eating fish.
2. Their barbs hurt.
3. When the barbs get you, you bleed for a while.
4. The barbs hurt even after a few hours.
5. The barbs still hurt after a few hours and a couple of beers.
6. I will go back again.
7. It is much easier fishing without kids ("Dad, can you bait my hook?"  "Dad, my line is tangled."  "Dad, I'm bored."  "Dad, my line is snagged again."  "Dad, my hook fell off.")

Good one Jamie .. Flathead are yummy to eat (although the fillets are small)

I've caught and eaten a few over the years but most of those would have been 30+ years ago
