Title: What's the difference?
Post by: bryand on April 12, 2013, 10:04:42
On the UK market, the Style trim level gets a 1.6 diesel rated at 110 PS (81Kw) whereas the higher-specced models get the 128 PS (94 Kw) engine.
Is the difference between these two simply the engine mapping?  In which case it should be relatively simple to bring the 110 PS engine up to or beyond 128 PS.

Member accim had something similar done to his first CW (FD series)

Just check HY UK site and for the 5 door Style there are 3 available engine size's:

http://www.hyundai.co.uk/new-cars/i30 (http://www.hyundai.co.uk/new-cars/i30)

1.4 100PS Petrol Manual
1.6 CRDi 128PS Diesel Blue Drive Manual
1.6 CRDi 128PS Diesel Automatic

No mention of the 110 ps.

The Active has the 1.6 CRDi 110PS Diesel Blue Drive Manual engine.

Sorry, I meant Active not Style.  But the question remains: is it just the mapping?

You would have to ask Hyundai engineers, we don't build them.

Hmm.  So much for the DIESELS > MODIFICATIONS forum then.

Hmm.  So much for the DIESELS > MODIFICATIONS forum then.

All forum sections are initially created empty. The content that appears in these sections builds by the valued input of the forum members. If you can't find the answer to your question it's probably because no one has, or feels the need, to perform your modification. You could assist the other members by doing a little research and add to the knowledge base, rather than voice your frustration.

At a guess, I would say it is in the mapping as there are no gross mechanical variations between the engines.

Try using the search function & look for mapping, I know there are some people who advocate remapping rather than adding a simple "performance chip". Hope that helps a little.
