Hello everyone :D
As of Saturday, January 24th, I am the proud owner of a brand new Moonlight Blue MY09 i30 SLX CRDi 5-speed. I just love my little car. I got Moonlight Blue because I thought the other blue was a bit loud.
I got it for $29,437 inclusive of dealer delivery, stamp duty, 12 months rego, dash mat, floor mats, window tint, cargo mat, rear spoiler, full tank of fuel and delivery to my door 1180km north of Perth. I enquired about the full body kit, but that was going to set me back another $800. I'm kind of glad I just got the rear spoiler. I could drive the car all day, it is so comfortable and nice to drive. What I really like about it, over some of the others we looked at, is the full-size spare wheel. I have no time for space-savers and any time I see a car fitted with a space-saver I cringe - especially if it is fitted to the front, a big no no.
I've been reading about the delay in delivery times that some of you have been commenting on. I ordered mine on November 5th, with a delivery date of January 16th. On the 16th the lady from the dealership rang and said there was a noise in the gearbox :rolleyes: so the workshop was waiting on a new gearbox. I was thinking "oh great, I've bought a lemon." I think the major delivery delays were something to do with a strike at the factory in Korea.
Have just ordered some seat covers which I found on good old EBay, airbag compatible front and fitted rear, so hopefully they will be here next week. I wanted sheepskin, but hubby had a fit when I told him the price, so I had to settle for velour.

Thank you Shambles. I hope to be able to take the car out for a decent drive next week, to the next town. It is only a 540km round trip lol.

You sound like a lovely lady with a great taste in motor vehicles (Exactly the same as mine....) although you got CC & ESP as standard... :'(
I "Quite" like driving mine doing close to 25,000 km in 10 months (and I only live 7km from my part-time work) :lol:

bumpkin - I see your i30 has all the fruit. We certainly don't need heated seats where we live. Refrigerated seats would be a better option :lol: 25 of the last 30 days have been 40C or higher. You all sound like a fun bunch of people. I'll find the time to explore the site a bit more.
I actually got my car through a place I found on the internet. They buy in bulk for everyday people - on the day I ordered my car they were ordering six others. Silly thing is - the dealership that wouldn't budge on price when I first test-drove the i30 is the dealership that ended up supplying the car. Had I bought directly from them in the first place it would have cost me easily another couple of grand.
I might splash out and get headlight and bonnet protectors.
Does anyone know - if you have a warranty issue, do you have to take the car to a Hyundai dealership? Our nearest dealership is 450km one way.

Hi Mel,
Headlight protectors aren't a bad idea (although you do lose a bit of light with them on) but can't recommend bonnet protector they tend to harbour dirt and leaves and can be more trouble than they are worth. I've done nearly 25,000 km in 10 months and no chips or dents on bonnet to speak of (I didn't bother with headlight protectors this time either)
Can get servicing done by qualified (non-hyundai mechanics) but warranty work would be a different matter I imagine. Guess your closest dealer could answer that better though. Warranty claims are minimal on the i30 so perhaps you wont need any. :razz:

Thanks Darryl. I already found out that I don't have to go to Hyundai for servicing. Just wondering about the 1,000km service. It says in the service book that it is free of charge, but I assume it is only free if I take the car to a Hyundai dealer. Another thing - in the service book there is a "Warranty Confirmation Inspection" sheet. Who is supposed to fill this in and send it to the National Warranty Department? I'm thinking it should have been done by the dealership prior to delivery of the car.

The main concern is that the shop you service from has to be approved by the dealer (atleast thats what my dealer told me.) otherwise warranty maybe void :( . Not too sure, you can always check with your dealer. Think the 1000 will only be free if you take it to the dealer :( .

When I ordered I was asked if I wanted reverse parking sensors. I said "no". Father-in-law has them in his car and they go ballistic if someone pulls up too close behind at the traffic lights. I must admit that since we found that out we take delight in pulling up close if we can see the car in front has reverse parking sensors :twisted:
Has anyone got the "style visors" as they are now called? We call them weather shields, or back home in NZ they are called monsoon shields.

They only become active when reverse is selected :rolleyes:

If that happens then the car in front must have selected reverse OR there is wiring problem!!
They should only activate when reverse is selected.
