all it is a couple terminals, and they get damaged by the current flowing through them. so all i did was open it up and sand the terminals to get a clean connection, i gotta pull it out again tonight so ill take a photo if i remember. there actually very simple design.

There is a voluntary recall on the brake light switch? If so, the dealer should replace it for you.

its a 2007 model and its not under warranty anymore. and no unfortunately no cruise control, although the brake light switch does have 2 separate circuits only one of which is used for the lights. not sure what the other circuit is for

It's not a warranty issue as far as I'm aware....it's a recall so you should still qualify, me217..... :goodjob:
Worth contacting your local dealer anyhow to confirm.

Yep. Rusty's right.
Safety recalls aren't negated by the expiry of a warranty period.
Although I guess it depends how Hyundai has "defined" it.

thanks
ill give them a call tomorrow and see how i go. I'd rather not have to pay for a new one. I'll even fit it as its only a 10 min job. at least I'll know its done correctly. as i don't trust dealerships.

The 2. Circuit is for the ecu. Have you ever tried to brake while driving with the foot on the accelerator..

Sounds like a good result.

Interestingly, Hyundai Australia is still sending out the brake light switch recall notices. They must be doing them progressively. Mine arrived by e-mail yesterday.
It was replaced a month back.

I received the notification letter for my 2010 diesel last Friday and had the switch replaced yesterday. I waited for the job to be done. It took 80 minutes from start to finish.

I would have been annoyed if I had to pay 2 hours labour for this job.

IIRC I was told only 20 to 30 minutes. Haven't had it done yet.

I took Lubricious into the local dealers to have a replacement sun glass caddy fitted under warranty on Saturday. While there, a new brake switch was fitted. All up it took an hour.

When I picked Lubricious up, the service manager commented on Lubricious' wonderful cluster of brake lights. (I had done the brake light mod ages ago.) The SM was very impressed with Lubricious' backside ;)
